I’m still working my way through all your past videos and they really are brilliant. You are such a genuine guy and you have a refreshing honesty about you. They say everyone has a double and you are my nephews doppelgänger. If I passed you in the street I’d swear you were him. Right to that big wide smile.
For one person that is a good size portion, what makes it more amaxing is that it is chilled and not frozen. May well try this one, although I will switch out the minted mushy peas for plain ones. Don't feel bad about the phoba with the fish, cooking in someone else's kitchen is always hit and miss. Thank your mum for hosting this review.

There were rich fishing grounds in the North Sea and the Humber was full of fish. It is called Great Grimsby in contrast to Little Grimsby, a village near Louth.
I'm severely illergic to whitefish....and I wish to god I could try it once. So on my deathbed I've told my daughters to get me the biggest battered cod and chips they can so I can go out my own way haha
@SuperLittleTyke they I can eat, I love a fresh mackeral, tinned tuna is my go to as its convenient. But I live by the coast and catch my own shrimp etc. But chip chops rarely sell anything like that by me. So I live vicariously through these videos of "fish and chips".
I've tried Sainsbury's version, and the portions are huge for one person. Sainsbury's method of dealing with the mushy peas is to cut the top of the sachet and stand it up in a cup to microwave. My oven isn't working properly and I don't have an airfryer, so no fish and chips for me until I get myself sorted.
actually that looks fairly decent! Will have to pick one up next time in Asdas. Pleasently surprised by the portion size too! For £3.50 you can't complain, definitely cheaper than paying £13 odd quid for that where I am Ever since my uni days I'm one of *those* airfryer users who won't shut up about it; stacking anything and everything in there! Awesome review. I found your channel in my recommended recently and haven't stopped watching. Honest, personable, entertaining and frequent! Can't ask for much more that
That looks lovely and I think £3.50 is a good price for what you are getting. The portion of chips is smaller than you get from a chip shop, but so is the price, and the fish and peas are about the same size (or maybe a teeny, tiny bit smaller) as in my local chippy nowadays, so pretty good all round. And it’s haddock from the Atlantic Ocean, not catfish from a farm on a river in you-know-where, just downstream from where the locals wash their clothes, water the cattle and empty the buckets! I will give this a try. I am giggling away here at the “serve with Sauvignon Blanc” and “for a restaurant experience.” Asda? As is Walmart? As in “was Elvis seen in Walmart?” Asda is getting delusions of grandeur, try “serve with enough vino collapso and you may see Elvis!” I like your Mum’s kitchen, by the way. I wish mine was as clean - oops, I meant nice.
I quite like the look of this meal. £3.50 is’ot too bad, especially if it’s tasty. Some of the cheaper ones are truly dreadful. Such a nice video, and happy you have had a good bit of food.
' ... £3.50 is’ot too bad ...' That is reasonable compared with Sainsbury's version which was £3.60 well over a year ago - my oven is tempermental so I've pretty much stopped using it and don't know the current price.
Another excellent review Gareth! That looks pretty good value for money too... for that price I would have thought it would be basa or tilapia, but for it to be haddock is impressive! Just needs a dollop of tartare sauce to be perfect.
but, i have had fresh cod from aldi, was grey mainly and not flakey inside soggy breadcrums. also tried a aldi frozen one, was on offer same was grey inside, think we are consuming not only smaller portion sizes for more money, but inferior quality too for more money too x
Not a bad size portion, that goes for the chips and the fish...I wouldn't eat the mushy peas though as I cant stand them. Thanks Gareth and £3.50 not too sad a price 👍🏻😋
That seems a decent feed and really good for the price. Here's another vote for mint sauce in mushy peas - love it! After a very challenging day at work it's a welcome return to some equilibrium to get home and see you in the kitchen, Gareth - call it BFG therapy👍👍👍
You can pick up a nice big bag of oven chips for £1.45 and 2 big frozen fish fillets for about the same. Ready meals are nice but expensive. A big bag of mixed veg for just over a pound. A few meals in all that for the price of a ready meal. Asda are however very good. Haven't yet looked at air fryers but must admit they may be worth it.
That's one of the best. I actually felt hungry watching you eat it even though I'm not long finished my dinner. I couldn't fault it and it's about a third of the price a chippy would charge. Spot on!
I love fish and chips and this prepackaged version looks good. The chip shops still have an advantage with taste and texture, but when it's a miserable and the rain is coming down horizontally, then having prepackaged is a reasonable alternative.
Looks good for the price. There was a piece on BBC Radio 4 earlier which interviewed two people from the food industry. Some prices are definitely falling. There has been a reduction in fodder prices and also for fertiliser. Every little helps. The supermarkets and food producers are now working flat out for the Christmas trade, which can be make or break for some retailers.

I've noticed there's a lot of new "Bistro" meals in Asda. This review makes me want to try a few just for a change. So easy to buy the same old, same old.
That was a good portion especially the fish. 450gms for £3.50. Nothing wrong with that. I have to say though your mam house is spotless. The air fryer looks brand new it’s that shiny and the front of the microwave looks like a mirror. Jeesss you should see the state of my air fryer and micro.
The reason air friers work so well is that the air moves around the food through the gaps in the basket, those liner things completely destroy that efficiency. Haven't tries one like so I might be talking balls.

Hi Gareth from a windy Spain - it's blowing half a gale here and we keep get a few odd spots of rain. For once, that didn't look too bad but I suspect that the fish was re-formed. Can't wait to try them, but I cannot risk going this late in the day as they will have run out of jam doughnuts at my local ASDA, Livingston. I can't understand why a 24-hour open shop cannot have fresh doughnuts on shelves all day. Asda has just rebadged a lot of their 'Finest' Range to 'Bistro' but the price has increased too. Great products though and their triple cooked chips are brilliant. If you try those with a Mayflower Chinese curry sauce, they are amazing with that as well. Personally, for this dish I'd prefer buying a tin of Asda mushy peas and use that instead. Good value though as it is these days 🙂
That's the trouble when you go to a restaurant for fish and chips. They consider it uncouth to make a chip butty. Well, I tell them I am full of couth and I make my chip butty anyway! Looks decent and you have to compare it to a restaurant meal for price or at the very least going to a chippy (chip hole for Barnsley folks). Nice one and I like your mam's cooker.
hi gareth thanks for a great review .i don't think your mum will let you loose again in her kitchen.the fish looked really good for saying it came out of a box .chips looked ok and the mushy peas at least were green.i always warm my plate up if having a hot meal if it be fish and chips from the local chippy or whatsoever.have a great week look forward to next review all the best wes
I was brought up with mushy peas on a roast dinner and baked beans with fish and chips is that weird 😂some of my friends think I'm crazy when they come for a roast I grew up in Portsmouth.
So that’s the child’s portion size and to be honest my first thought on seeing the piece of fish was that someone in the supply chain has been removing the haddock from the supply and replacing it with Dover Sole or some other flat fish. There certainly wasn’t any depth to the flesh of that fish. The portion size of the somewhat watery looking peas didn’t do much to help account for the value of the meal and finally I would have preferred to have proper thick cut chips in place of those steak cut chips. All in all the only saving grace for this dish is the modest price, but I’m afraid that my wallet is staying in my pocket for the time being.

You don’t need to do that in an air fryer that’s the whole point of the metal grill at the bottom
Same principle applies to a fry up. If the bacon is threatening to overcook, mount it on a two-sausage plinth.

Looks good , if I had an Asda by me, would def try. Good video
Thanks for watching!
Considering fish and chips cost around £10 that looks well worth it some sauce on there sorted.
Thanks Gaz spot on chip's n fish nice shame about mushy peas bud, looked ok😋🔝💪🏆
Cheers Tim
The fish looks grand, but a big lad like me would need more chips and mushy peas than what is provided.
I love my grub, me….
hi gareth thanks for a great review .i don't think your mum will let you loose again in her kitchen.the fish looked really good for saying it came out of a box .chips looked ok and the mushy peas at least were green.i always warm my plate up if having a hot meal if it be fish and chips from the local chippy or whatsoever.have a great week look forward to next review all the best wes
Cheers Wes
I was brought up with mushy peas on a roast dinner and baked beans with fish and chips is that weird 😂some of my friends think I'm crazy when they come for a roast I grew up in Portsmouth.
As ready meals go.. not to shabby
Never go for battered fish.
I always go for breaded.
I’d happily pay £3.50 for that. In some supermarkets that’s the price for a bog standard microwave meal.
Yes pretty tasty 😋
Great review Gareth xx 👍
Thank you 😁
So that’s the child’s portion size and to be honest my first thought on seeing the piece of fish was that someone in the supply chain has been removing the haddock from the supply and replacing it with Dover Sole or some other flat fish.
I think its very good value, because although its not a thick fillet it is a single piece rather than bits pressed together.
