  • Simply put the Scott Sector 8' 4" 6 weight (846/4) is our favorite 6 weight fly rod . This rod has the power and capability of any 7 weight out there. It's as light as most 6 weights. The shorter length (8' 4") makes it a deadly accurate fly rod. And finally, It's a very fast rod but retains the sensitivity of a Scott fly rod.
The Sectors series is a Saltwater designed rod, and it undoubtedly thrives in those conditions. We love it as an all around warm water species rod - bass, drum, and carp are perfect for this rod. The Sector 846/4 fishes great as a trout streamer rod as well.

A review of the 990-4 sector would be awesome

Thanks. First review I’ve seen on the Sector 8’4” 6wt. I have the 8wt in 8’4” (with SA 8wt Grand Slam) and it immediately vaulted into my #1 most fun rod to fish. Not sure why I like the shorter rods but it seems easier to keep everything lined up, which contributes to power and accuracy. I’d be interested to see if you could over-line the rod. My 8wt overlines really nicely with saltwater 9wt lines.

Hey Tom - You can definitely overline the 6. I've fished it with the Airflo Beach 6 WT (230 grains) and it casts great. I prefer the SA Titan 6 WT (210 grains) and have customers who fish the SA infinity 7 weight (200 grains) as well. And we agree, the short Sectors are just FUN to fish.
