I think Jose really likes Sims City. He placed his residential complex far from the industrial zone. Far from the noise, pollution, traffic jams. This man is smart.

Gambeson is padded armor, a quilted linen or wool hauberk usually stuffed with horsehair or cloth scraps. It was usually worn as an inner layer under chain mail or plate armor, though less wealthy, lower ranking soldiers often wore it by itself, as it was useful protection against blunt force even if it was little use against piercing or edged weapons without the additional mail or plate.
Depending on how thick/how many layers the gambeson had, it could be pretty effective against slashing and piercing weapons too. Especially if the edges on those weapons weren't extremely sharp. Admittedly, the poorer lower rank soldiers who didn't have other armor on top of it were probably also more likely to have cheaper, thinner gambesons. But still, they'd definitely increase your chances of survival.
You are correct in that a pad would do little against a piercing weapon, like an arrow or spear. However, a pad would greatly reduce the depth of a slashing wound like from a scimitar, or the impact of an edged weapon like a typical European sword, if swung rather than thrust. It would do little against a bashing weapon like a mace or hammer. Your analysis is 1/3 correct and 2/3 backwards.
17:50 that was more exciting than most of high elo plays I've even seen. Jose must have SO much fun in these games! BTW, amazing to see how much more knowledgeable of LEL T90 has become, he predicts their moves so much nowadays.
There is a super obvious reason he builds his houses next to the trees. He does it to give them great views out the back of them, seeing the trees as the sun rises in the morning can be quite a sight.
4:50 Having lived near the farms that used manure as fertilizer you get desensitized to the smell after a while. It will get to the point where you brain will just start blocking out that smell cause it's normal. So long as the smell is in like a "normal" consistent state. You'll smell it here and there again.
I used to love playing the britons and just make long bows with one line of pikes for defense and 2 flanks of knights for quickly taking out siege weapons. That’s how i played for a long time. That’s all i did lol. So I definitely understand playing one way for years on end lol.
Jose playing 2000(!!!) games and still playing like this is absolutely fascinating to me. We need to crowdfund to get someone to study that brain for research
No worries on not giving us the name of the map up front. The name of the map is just below the mini-map, and it's kind of obvious by the pit of gold that it is Golden Pit.
I've been playing AOE2 since Age of Kings was first released at the turn of the millennium (though only single player, as I don't PvP). Teutons were my favorite civ in Age of Kings, but I largely switched to Spanish after The Conquerors was released. While I don't build houses around wood lines, I do see the logic of it. If your yard is mostly woods, you don't have to mow it as much as you would if it were in open grassland!
It's amazing how much value Jose got from that one corner mine and tower, which looked hopelessly exposed. He really could have won it if the ram attack was slightly better microed and followed up with a castle drop.
20:00 Gambeson was fabric armor typically made of linen. It was the most basic armor type, worn by the poor and the weathy. It was often worn underneath other types of armor.

I heard about an old Roman ship the other day that sunk with a shipment of lead from a colony in Spain. The historians said that they may have prioritized mining lead in Spain so that if there was more civil warring in Italy, they'd still have metal reserves at home. It confirmed the LEL remote mining strategy is actually historically accurate

Jose is full on urban planning his development
poor urban planning, lots of commute time between work and house, will probably lead to a car centric city

4:30 because that way the houses cannot be encircled by many units and thus don't go down as fast (low elo logic you said!)

have to love the low elo teutons, they play the game the way its intented
