    That white guy wasn't the problem, in the video he kept saying thats how he "personally" eats pho. Its the publisher's title that screwed everything up.

      he said to try the broth before destroying the original flavor with sriracha and hoisin, and that's how you should be eating pho. the point of the video done, nothing offensive, everything else was stated as his personal opinion, the end.

    As a Vietnamese who live in Vietnam, let me speak right here:
    1: that is the wrong type of noodle that they are using there to make pho
    Pho noodles are wider and thinner in size,the type of rice noodle they are using make the dish call "bún"
    2:side veggies are HUGE
    Vietnam restaurant often give u tons of different varieties of veggies even if you don't ask them not like just basil and onion and bean sprouts
    3:as i look at the soup,it looks better than Vietnamese pho
    Vietnamese pho have lighter soup and you need to put a lot of nuoc mam and stuff
    4:there is not such thing call "how you eat pho probably" because different places,people eat it different.some may find the soup is the tastiest,some find the meat the tastiest(like me) so yea,eat how you feel the most comfortable :)
    p/s: sry for my bad English

      thin noodles=south Vietnamese pho
      thick and wide noodles=north Vietnamese pho
      pho originated from hanoi. it wasn't until the Vietnam War did it expand to what it is today. all about thin Vietnamese pho but forget where pho came from.

    • @nhatduycao701
      @nhatduycao701 7 років тому +5

      Actually different regions of the country use the different type of noodles. An Giang, if not the entire Southern Vietnam use the thinner/wider one. In my place, they call the thicker one "Hủ tiếu tươi".
      Anyway, in other language, they can't distinguish the different types of noodles, they just "rice noodles" for everything, bún gạo - rice noodles, bún ta - rice noodles, hủ tiếu - rice noodles, phở - rice noodles.

      he DID say it was his own opinion. He never in the video told people that the way he ate it was the only way. He CLEARLY stated that it's his own opinion and in nowhere in his video does he tell Vietnamese or any type of Asian person how to eat pho. Can you actually go and watch the video before you speak about something that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about ? it's actually kinda sad and people like you who are misinformed and call everything racist without actually looking at the facts and proof make us ACTUAL people who ACTUAL care about ACTUAL social injustice and FACTUAL racist look like a bunch of misinformed little dumb "millenials"

    • @HelloMyNamelsBanana
      @HelloMyNamelsBanana 7 років тому +7

      "It's a little disrespectful to tell people how to eat pho" he NEVER told ANYONE 'how to eat pho'. He told people how HE eats pho. "then make false information that is entirely opinion based" where is this false information? Can you actually reference the EXACT part where he says "false information"? And tell me, how the fuck is it disrespectful to Vietnamese to state his OPINION on how he eats pho? "But he should of said this was my opinion" HE SAID MULTIPLE TIMES "THIS IS THE WAY 'I'" in the video which you would've KNOWN if you ACTUALLY WATCHED IT. It's should have* not should of by the way.

    • @HelloMyNamelsBanana
      @HelloMyNamelsBanana 7 років тому +2

      ***** I don't even know why I'm replying to your stupid ass. You just admitted that you didn't even watch the video. You are basing your whole entire opinion off of a commentary video that someone made without looking at the actual source (which is the dumbest shit ever). In an intellectual debate, you would have already been disqualified but ofcourse you don't get that concept because you're too stupid to know that too. LMFAO

      +Karen B. Fuck off, he said in the video it's how HE eats pho, not how to eat pho. The publisher of the article used a misleading title and you are acting like a self righteous SJW who doesn't realize that chef most likely studied Vietnamese culture for years before opening that shop. Just because he's white you vilify him, for an error he never made and the publisher made instead. Idiot.

    • @onceuponatimeshedied
      @onceuponatimeshedied 7 років тому +17

      The Ampharos Freak Wow, that escalated quickly. You're arguing with me as if I said anything about the pho or anything about the video itself. In fact, the only thing I said was that he needs to be careful of coming off as disrespectful. Your points are completely valid and I respect them. You honestly just came off as being triggered, so I suggest you find a safe space. (and I'm not even saying that ironically)

    He did not say "this is how you're supposed to eat Pho" in the video. He said that's how he personally eats it and stated his personal opinion and preferences when it comes to eating it. And when he says that Pho is on the rise and becoming the "new ramen" he meant that in a popularity sense. Not that ramen is dying out or that they can't live together in the same world. He didn't say it was similar or the same thing. This is only making him look worse.

    The problem was not the white guy, it was the "journalist" at Bon Appetit. The whole premise of today's journalism is sensationalism. Its no longer about the content; its about the title and the ad revenue. That's why 'clickbait' is a thing and why clickbait pisses intelligent/discerning readers off. A statement like "the right way to eat pho" is provocative. I'm Asian and grew up eating pho. Most of what whitey said was not wrong. The only thing I felt was wrong was the claim that pho was "on the rise". To me, that disregards all the contributions Vietnamese immigrants made to make pho a thing in America. Because to me, pho was always a thing and to anyone who has ever appreciated the Asian American culture and food, pho has always been a thing. So for them to say pho is a the new trend and interview a white guy who has a pho restaurant...its disrespectful.

But for some reason the viewers were like who the fuck are you to tell me how to eat it?

    • @nhouayang2597
      @nhouayang2597 7 років тому +7

      ChaozDealer I can agree to a certain point with you but then again, would you have taco bell inform you on how to eat authentic tacos? and even if it was an old Vietnamese grandma who grew up cooking this dish her whole life in Vietnam and if her words were his and edited like so, people would still disagree. Because Pho has its standard ingredients, but what's great about it is the options of ingredients you can add to the bowl. My Pho, will never taste like another person's pho. it's preference

    Where i come from, (southern Vietnam) the pho is served in the most simple way possible, only the noodle,the broth, the meat and thinly sliced green onion, top with freshly cut chillies and a squeeze of lemon. No beanspourts, no basil, no other herbs, no sciracha, no hoisin sauce because they will changes the taste of the broth. I think every part of Vietnam have their own way to eat this dish, anyways, you pay for your foods, so you can eat whatever way you please.

And I just love the basil putting usually all of it in.

      don't forgot even though Asians like to stereotype/do racists jokes it's all in good fun/not taken seriously but these days and this decade (not sayings it's just the millenials) everyone gets offended by the littlest things. Sure if I ever met that dude I would tell him "you're fucking white, stfu and just eat the way you like and we'll eat the way we like sounds fair? The only off3nse I would have to this is that he's arrogant enough to think he knows how to eat pho and somehow represents all noodle culture. But then again a lot of chefs are like that.

    • @HelloMyNamelsBanana
      @HelloMyNamelsBanana 7 років тому +7

      Anon Anon no but seriously what are you talking about? He CLEARLY states in his video that all of the ways that he explains pho is HIS opinion and HIS way of eating it. He did not say "this is the only way you should eat it" so there was no probelm to start with. The only problem was with the editing. There are things to be offended by and things to know to not be offended by. Its GOOD to be offended by things that are racist or exploiting of other cultures but the video that he made was neither.
