A storm hunt, a ghost hunt and a roundup, all in one week you're spoiling us!!
How strange to see Royal Scott only yesterday I was searching for it on an old family video. At that time it was based in Butlins Skegness. I was too young to actually remember it at the time!! It's almost a drone like clip filmed from the cable car.
CAF are based up in the Basque Country northern Spain, lot of heavy industry up there much of it in decline but they seem to have opened up the UK market, good luck to them. It does make me sad to see the old HSTs on their way out and see that these days the UK imports or assembles these trains.
Further south in Spain I've come across a small group trying to restore an old railway line. It was originally a British company, The Great Southern of Spain Railway built principally for exploiting the mines in the region. Lots of remains along the whole route.
In a couple of weeks we will be heading off to Madrid on the HST, if I can I'll try a get some film for you.
All the best
Thank you Gordon for selecting a few more clips for the yourturn section. I enjoyed watching.
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm Spanish, and CAF stands for Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (in English constructions and railway auxiliary)
Construction and Additional Railway Services
WELCOME BACK NODROG . GOOD VIDEO ON BRITISH RAILWAYS FROM ROY BURNLEY IN BRADFORD.
Excellent as always Gordon. Keep em coming when you get chance 👍
I'm so glad you're all back doing what you do Best , Missed you 🙏🙏💯💯👍👍
Great round up Thanks Nodrog
Another, this is fab, great news, just hope the CAF for LNER are comfier than 195’s
Probably a similar product to the class 397.
TRANSPENNIE already have them !! NOVA 2
Can tou talk one day about the front trap mechanisms of these trains? I find it fascinating
CAF = "Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles" which translates as "Construction and Railway Auxiliary"
Thanks for a great week on your UA-cam channel Gordon two great videos and especially the storm one from Blackpool 👌. Well it looks like you and TP Simon are truly back at what you do best👏👏👏👍
Thanks 👍
Great Rail Round up Gordon, not too many mistakes, very informative as well, keep it up mate.
Glad you enjoyed it
Phil is in Cardiff central and that's a 153 dmu in transport for Wales of course probably to coryton since it's facing eastbound tracks
Funny enough these CAF units have the same bespoke set of specifications NIR/Iarnroad Eireann are looking for to replace their hauled stock on the Enterprise.
Loving the rr and two in one month great where's Phil I think from the lettering on the platform sign in the top right it's Cardiff Central in welsh
Perhaps for maximum efficiency LNER's new CAF trains should be delivered directly to a local friendly scrapyard. Then in a couple of years they sould be able to buy some cheap HSTs from Mexico.
Or even cheaper Nigerian ones!
Phil is in Cardiff central - specifically platform 4 (looking onto platform 6) at the Coryton bound service
I’m currently predicting that these units would be called the class 396, cuz 398 and 399 are already taken and it makes sense to put it along with TPE’s class 397
It's a high speed multimode though, so probably 8xx. 897 would make sense
831, 895 or 897 they’ll likely be.
@@busesmanchester Probably 804 or 806, I'd assume. My opinion would be to use advanced loco-hauled sets instead. Tri-mode Siemens Taurus locos hauling Siemens Viaggio coaches would be a fab idea, as they're pretty much the same as the InterCity 225's.
Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles,
Ferrocarriles = railways in Castellano
Love the video update thankyou. I works on the railway not going to say which company but for me CAF stands for "call a fitter" as they are always broken 🤣
I think it's more to do with the fact that these units are a new platform and familiar. So the first few batches are gonna have some issues over time i guess their newer variations will be improved
. The first batch had horrible dampers now they've been improved it seems. But the suspension definitely needs improving on the CAFs
What a great channel just popped up. Liked and subscribed, looking forward to more. Thanks.
Welcome aboard!
CAF is Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (ferrocarriles means railway)
Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles that what caf stands for . It's means Construction and Railway Auxiliary
The 'F' in CAF, does it not mean Ferrovia...? Spanish? Solo una suposición...! Nice one Simon, Phil and Nodrog! Sorry to hear of the vandals in the groups. Great round-up Catch up again! Have a good Christmas and A Happy New Year!
CAF named successful bidder? Shock horror considering the Donation CAF made to the Conservative Party and that two serving ministers sit on the board of CAF 😒😒
Is this not illegal???
Who?
Pretty Standard it seems these days, look at what went on during Covid! Politicians aren’t getting wealthy from their salary !
Yep, the entire rolling stock tender process is agreed by men in wing back chairs sat in a gentleman's club.
Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles. F is railway. Back to video!!
well i hope those CAF built units are more reliable than the Midland Metro CAF tram units that seem to be out of service as often as on the tracks
Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (Grupo CAF, literally "Construction and Other Railway Services")
from the English Wikipedia article on CAF - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Construcciones_y_Auxiliar_de_Ferrocarriles
By the way: the Spanish national railways operator is "Renfe", an acronym of _Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles,_ *National Network of Spanish Railways* in English; the Italian state oparator (or the parent organziation) is "Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane", which translates as "Italian Railways of the State" - with the short form "Ferrovie dello Stato", abbreviated FS (Avanti West Coast is a part FS-company).
As you see: both use the term "Ferro", which derives from Latin _Ferrum_ for *iron* - which is also the term for the chemical element, abbreviated FE or Fe. The "vie" in the Italian is the plural for "via", which we all know from the word Viaduct, or the names for/of the ancient Roman Roads. And the Spanish "carriles" (or 'carril' for singular) contains the word "car".
Hope that helps a bit.
I've read that the CAF LNER trains will have better seats than on the Azumas but the CAF trains will not run to Scotland. The Azuma seats are no good for very long journeys.
Th simon and girdon!
this is a brilliant roundup
Superb show 👏
Not sure about this order going to CAF. TOCs operating CAF built trains have had nothing but problems with them. First trans pennine are withdrawing all there mk5s after only four years service.
Hard to find a modern manufacturer product that doesn't have faults. CAF and Hitachi both found they couldn't weld properly. Bring back British engineering 37s 47s etc still smashing it after all this time. HSTs with IC70 seats are still the most comfortable trains ever.
Has the original channel gone and this replaced it? anyway so it is good to see you again. If you are ever in Yorkshire ill keep a eye out for you....
It’s all changed to this platform. Thank you.

Don Coffey has posted a good video of the TP route upgrade (July 2023)
I needed to know why they don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the unused abandoned underground train stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock and that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers. A Stock Trains and also having 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it more Larger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Railway tunnel into a High-Speed Railway lines? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Railway line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. Then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 47 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project if that will be OK for London Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from the Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden more Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly Line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street can they also make another brand new underground train station in Chingford and could they extend the Piccadilly Line and the DLR right up to Chingford? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to create more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and can they order Every 37 Octagon and Every 17 Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique minor no.13 and unique minor no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 142MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 142MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units, can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!!!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 17 Tonnes for all of those 142MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are told!!!! And please do something about these very very important Professional ideas Please? Prime Minister of England, Prime Minister of Australia, Prime Minister of Sweden, Prime Minister of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.
If they are as bad as the 197's then my deepest condolences, CAF ( Call A Fitter or Cheap As F###) horrendous things, very uncomfortable, noisy, useless on wet surfaces, problems with working in pairs and very bad ride quality
Travelled on them from Newport to Cardiff horrible things they are assembled here in Newport
Yep, I've heard on the inside that LNER already regret this decision. Buy cheap buy twice.
Why do we keep importing trains manufactured overseas. We have to put up with Spanish made new stock on the DLR, the insult Siemens inferior shite to replace the Piccadidlly line with a pathetic screwdriver operation in Goole. TfL and state run TOCs need to get a grip and stop exporting skills technology and jobs, let alone the impact on our balance of trade. We've already shot ourselves in both feet by leaving the EU, we should at least bt sourcing al our trains from Alstom UK, Derby abd Hitachi Durham. Yet another terrible consequence of privatising the railways, with middlemen leasing companies raking off public funds further. We have literally gone mad since 1993 with railway non strategy

about time the EMR seat was done they are falling apart was shock how bad they was when i last ride on then
Why not just order more Class 80[0]? The big issue with the LNER trains is the dreadful concrete ironing boards in Standard Class. We know they inherited these designs from the DFT but the overwhelming customer feedback is that they are horrible. But LNER have to spin the PR BS about ergonomics. A commitment to better seats (Lumo style would be better) would be better than hype about another new train type! 😵💫
Using the same seats as Lumo might get them criticism for using the same seats as a budget alternative. Maybe they should've ordered 80Xs with the DGDESIGN seats the 810s would have?
Maybe they should let Hitachi build the entire train! Have you seen the interior of the 885 Series Kamome limited express train in Kyushu, which is part of the same family of trains? They must have spent more on the seating alone than the entire British budget for the Class 800!
@@B-A-LJapan just get it absolutely right with their trains
@@B-A-L Come on now, they only built 69 Series 885 trains, compare that to replacing a bunch of aging rolling stock for intercity services across multiple operators in the UK.
How does one get a photo put into your turn section? Also new here but love this type of content. Always have. Brilliant work 👍

More throwaway trains, built to last 10 years
Well that's to keep foreigners in a job , the government to care about British workers ever since we joined the common mkt
I think a better idea would be to use tri-mode versions of Siemens Taurus locos, hauling Siemens Viaggio coaches that ÖBB use on their Railjet Intercity services, as they're pretty much the same as the InterCity 225's.
❤
Yes please well done Gordon
I totalmlove your posts and Simon
Anything you can put out even if it is only bi monthly well appreciate what you put out
Please can you look into what's happening with what was supposed to be northern Powerhouse rail ie liverpool through warrington underneath bank quay station and then poss Manchester airport
After all just about 2030 ish a new bridge was installed at WBQ which cost several million pounds and involved a huge crane
Is it ever going to happen???
Take care and please keep RR going
Looks like the 397.. potentially a 397 varient
EMR second class Intercity seats are red not black as shown. Those look like Turbostar seats.
as for emr they just need an upgrade especially for regional, as norwich to liverpool on a 159 with no wifi is not a nice experiance

Thanks, will do!
I think that LNER wanted to order new trains because of the Class 91 Mk4 Intercity 225 stocks are getting old and LNER could of ordered more Class 801s which would of replaced the Class 91 Intercity trains instead of ordering more new trains that CAF have won the contract to build 10 new Tri-mode units.
Buying these was a master stroke in stupidity. No compatibility with their class 801s, nowhere to maintain them and well CAF.
Stuffed brown envelopes
Fair enough.
It appears, nobody has commented on that yet, but Phil appears to be in Wrexham Central. (Well, at least that is the only "Central" station in Wales I have on mind. And at the right end of the photo, there was the rest of the station name sign to be seen.)
I don’t think it’s Wrexham Central because the station is called Wrexham General. It’s the only ex-GWR station to retain the suffix ‘General’. Also, the Wrexham - Bidston service is currently using Class 150s and occasionally some of the ex London Transport D trains. I think the photograph was taken at Cardiff Central. Class 153s are very common there working the City Line services and the Cardiff Bay shuttle service.
@@GarethJonesPilipala Wrexham has two stations, Wrexham Central & Wrexham General
@@reecelucasfilms in your original message you said Wrexham Central was the only ‘Central’ station in Wales. There is, of course, Cardiff Central. I still think the photo is taken at Cardiff Central . At the extreme right of the photo is a a metal railing. It is painted in the colours of the railing at Cardiff Central and its position is all suggestive that it’s Cardiff Central.

CAF's Class 800 train not to be confused with Hitachi's Class 800 train. 😂 That's just hilarious
I was missing rail roundup
Rest in peace class 91 and old 222 seats. Wellcome class 396 and new Tyneside yard
Interesting.

i hope these caf trains dont have the same issues with cracks and driver training that the mk5as had
Gatwick has been well overdue for an upgrade.
LNER go to CAF i would as we had TPE scrap the nova 3 due to unreliability and the Mk5 use on Caledonian sleep are note for poor ride and bad reliability . i think LNER should buy Class 411 4 CEP much more reliable.
Would it be possible for the new caf trains for L N E R be built under licence in Derby to help keep train building their.
Derby is run by a completely different company. Would Nestle make Cadbury chocolate bars?
Absolutely not
@@frankbagshaw6886this licencing is actually common. Take Pepsi and Coke making each others products in various markets and Hershey and Cadbury etc
Why not more class 800s :/
Indeed - Co.Durham people need the work.

IS this click bait??? IS this true???? if so then the east coast main line is saved
What's the hardest train for a British train spotter to spot? A British train!
About time they replaced the Hitachi trains lol
Just to tell everyone class 319s on Northern trains are getting withdrawn on the 9th of December 2023
Why CAF not Hitachi 😮
I thought that as well.
Because it was put out to bidders and CAF's proposal was more appealing. Sadly it doesn't get automatically awarded to the previous supplier.
Life cycle cost and profit margins. CAF went in on a loss leader to capture market share though I doubt the OPEX is lower. They have nowhere to maintain them, no common parts with class 801, different sub supplier base, different special tools and an entirely different parts inventory to manage for capital spares.
. . . . all of which engenders increased operating costs and problems. Nee botha - it's only taxpayers' money . . . @@polla2256
Those CAF trains are a waste of money , too complicated and will be unreliable
LNER - They're not Intercity's! Those are regional trains posing as an Intercity. These trains are already in service and the results and ride quality is appalling.
Why would LNER want more Trains when they have 2 type's of AZUMA and some 225 Set's. CAF, Cheap and Chearfull. Waste of F***ING money and National Rail should start ordering NEW Train's from ALSTOM rather than Cheap old CAF.
New LNER trains...??? Here's hoping the individuals responsible for specification & procurement have listened to LNER Azuma train passenger feedback & specified seating that is far more comfortable than the butt-numbing Azuma seats...They are truly the worst seating...ever.
God help LNER if they ordered CAFs. Theyre gonna fall appart
8:48 gives me nightmares. WTH are they thinking with those seats ?!? If you're tall/broad it will be more like torture than a trip. Horrible, horrible design if that's what they're going for.
I think using that company is questionable.
hi there. who asked for these new trains ?why do they keep putting trains we dont want.
Looks just a replica of the class 800 by Hitachi. Duh. 😂
Meanwhile 1600 jobs go in Derby
Hope they are better than the trams they build. They are utter crap.

CAF, the worst trains to purchase.
CAF?! i can tell you now that they will have frame cracking problems, almost every train they build has them. i hate the caf trains we have here in the netherlands, as a traindriver i really dislike them. cheaply build, cracking, buggy software and bad design. avoid caf
