    This lesson is a great example of why we should learn scales; not for their own sake but so if/when we want to “break” or arpeggiate a chord or inversion and want to wrap it in some other notes for flavor, we know what works and what doesn’t. Strike a note NOT in the key of D here and it’s readily apparent.

      Piano is an emotional outlet for me. I got cyberbullied a year ago and I sometimes still feel like I'm in that place.
      Your accent sounds like a regular UK accent to me.
      You are aware of cyberbulling right?

    Thank you very much for this video
    Extremely useful in my learning stage, like all your videos
    Specifically what this triggered:
    I had been memorizing scales with Thumb on the key (or index finger or middle finger on the key when it is a black key), so it involved a stretch to the right, and this involved the key patterns
    With index finger on the key as in this video, I now follow the much easier system:
    Circle of Fourths becomes the base
    Thumb on 5th , index on key, and pinky on 4th
    I can thus navigate through all 12 major keys, moving forward on the Circle
    Instead of memorized key patterns, now, it is simply a move of WWH - from the index finger (index, middle, ring, pinky), and then the same pattern WWH from the thumb (thumb, index, middle, ring) - that completes the entire scale
    It has immediately made it lot more fun - very creative
    Thank you very much

I know you can use all the notes in the key to create a melody but I just want to make sure is there any reason you picked those 5 specific noted to narrow movement down for beginners.

    Nice! Should I press the sustain pedal once for each chord? Cause sometimes u play notes un the melody that are chromaticly together (g and f#). That is my doubt. Thanks!

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 років тому +1

      As a general rule, once per chord. After that its subjective. Because 2 notes are played next to each other doesn't mean its bad or wrong. It might be the desired sound. I do it all the time. If the notes pile up and it gets too muddy and crosses the barrier into bad, then lift the susttain pedal in the middle of the bar.

    Thank you so much Sir.... Your tutorials have been very very, (one more) very helpful😁... Thanks a lot... However, I can't figure out how to use these melodies or patterns (including past lessons) in playing a real song (probably as interludes) or combining them together to form something new... Any tips on how to do that.... Thanks
    With love from Nigeria, Africa...

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 років тому

      Well, in the first instance, the patterns and tuorials should allow you to get some feel for melody and how patterns work. Then its about playing and experimenting. To be honest, there's a lot more to crafting a piece than I could fit into one youtube comment but hopefully these vids will be a stepping stone to reach it. I am tackling this is a much bigger way in a premium course.

    Love your videos, and I am getting back into my piano practice. My question is... I understand that you are starting on the D Major chord. When you add in the E and the G, what chord would this be then? Or does it matter?

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 років тому

      Well, the main chord is a D major but you are playing around with lots of little variations like D Sus4 / sus2 / add6 etc etc. But essentially, at its core its the D major chord + variations on that.

    Anyway Sir, may I ask you,
    like those chords, D and G for your left hand, how do we determine which melody we should use??
    Like if I want to use C usually it's E right
    but what if I want to use F#, what should I add for that melody.. Is there any tips/rule about that ?
    is that what you called as harmony?
    I learnt keyboard long time ago but I don't think I learnt the basic, I only memorize the chords for playing a song.
    Thanks and looking forward for your another lesson..

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 років тому +2

      I usually use a sustain pedal for most of my creative stuff. One of my BIG issues with the way trad. piano is taught is that students won't get to use the sutain pedal until grade 4 something like that. That could be 3 years in or longer. The pedal adds so much magic to your playing \(depending on style of course) and is very inspirational. I teach pedal use from day 1.

    Improvising is absolutely the key to fulfilling piano experience for beginners. Trust me, you watch these videos you will not believe how much fun you will have and what you can do 6 months later. I might be different, but I've lost a lot of interest in mastering songs I like. Sitting down and just playing to my mood has been incredibly rewarding. I slip into melodies and chord progressions by accident all the time. Just embrace everything you learn here and you will be shocked. I'm more than ready now for the next step forward. Trust me, what you learn here...there is no substitute...period. Hi Jozef. It seems expensive when base on which tier you will subscribed to, over let say a year.I am not sure what you will be offering during that year let say. Your second question, I am assuming that you don't have to pay fees on top of the cost, is this correct?Andre

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 років тому

      I hope people don't have to pay fees, but I think it depends where they are based. VAT and all that. As far as patreon goes, I see it primarily as a way for people who like and use my videos on patreon to give a bit back if they wish rather than specifically paying for something extra / a service. The extras are like bonuses. Like I said before, i'ts an experiment.

      I can't speak for Jaques course specifically because I haven't seen it and don't know much about it, but I've had talked to Jaques and he's great. I've also put together a short course for him. Ultimately its what you want to achieve. I've laid out what my course offers over at members.creativepianoacademy.com/cpr . My course is very specific to solving piano practice but it also provides a fun route in for absolute beginners. I'd say compare the infomation pages and see which one is right for you.

      You are really great, an inspiration to me ! I am a retired American architect, living in a little town of Vilaplana, Spain. Very much a beginner although tinkered around on the piano (guitar) for many years, crudely play some american and Scottish folk music. I am following your videos slowly, learning a lot and very grateful to you. You are an amazing to me and I suspect many, others. Blessings on you ! ! Ken Anderson@@Creativepianoacademy
