I preferred the black DOD 250. I've tried the yellow DOD250 and the Yngwie version (which I now own) and thought they sounded very much alike. I like both. I have also tried several digital models of this OD on various pedal boards (Digitech, Boss, etc.) - in blind tests the DOD 250 was consistently the only OD model I was drawn to. To my ear, I has most "color" (e.g. less clear, more like a good, subtle, distortion, sounds like a humbucker into a marshall amp). All tubescreamers sound clear and bland to me (I've tried several versions and several digital models). The Fender in the video sounded quite good to me, perhaps a bit cleaner/clearer/tighter? In which case it might lack color.
I have all 3 (Fender, DOD 250 yellow and DOD 308 YJM). The "old" sound (Alkatrazz, Rising Force, Marching out, Trilogy) was easier to get with the Yellow as far as I am concerned. Assuming you have the correct gear (Hs3 Dimarzios rather than YJM Duncans on a fender alder body strat, and a Marshall-y cranked vintage basic tone) you can get very close with all of them BUT here are the differences: 1. Yellow has a bit less noise, less gain (but enough to play) and more bass. Pros: The rhythm is fat and the solos liquid. The most UNFORGIVING one of the lot. You hit a bum note, it tells. But for me, that is a plus as when you are on, it sounds perfect. Cons: Yellow has a bit less sustain. Think "Marching out" tone 2. DOD 308 Very close to yellow, but more bright (still smooth)and LESS bass, which you can easily tell. Pros: Great for soloing, more sustain, more attack, less flabby than yellow when playing neck pickup on the bass strings. Cons: Rhythm sounds weak, you may need to add some bass on your base tone but still the honky-ness of yellow is missing a bit. Close to "Seventh sign" tone I guess, but less bass. 3. Fender YJM. Still close to others but far more modern. Pros: Huge attack, VERY EASY to play, the easier of them all, it plays itself really, more punch, more bright. Maybe the easier one to solo with. I can see why Yngwie goes for it, it makes his life easier and covers up for him now that he is older. Cons: A bit less mids and bass make it sound a bit flat rather than honky, definitely sounds "modern". Its the easiest to play but its the least one close to the "old" Yngwie tone. Think Magnum Opus and further up... For old tone I go to yellow 250 OR the 308, for easier soloing the 308 and the Fender I guess. The Fender can work easier with more amps as well as it takes over the tone, it has a huge output. You need of course a gate after ALL of them. Hope this helps.I would NEVER spend 300-600 pounds on the grey one.
@@irmasil3 Thanks for the information!! I guess i will go for the yellow 250 then to catch that oldschool tone of his (marching out being my favorite). Of course a fender strat and a 50 watt marshall
どれも良い音👍🎵
Are those Yngwie's slippers?

Great video! Could you please tell me how loud was the amp?
Nice test
thank you for your comment!
Nice , which one is your favorite in terms of sound and under your fingers
thank you for your comment!
i asked you which one is your favorite?
It's gray. This is distortion of gain 5, level 10. The other effectors are the settings of gain 10 and level 10.
Where can I get that black dod on the right? I have the first 3 😅
Guys i really want that early yngwie sound which of course is the grey dod 250, but where can i find one of those?

The original grey ones blow them all !!! i have two of them No need to compare This thing is nuclear !!!
Kenny Larvitz I agree. No comparison really. Its the most musical one and doesnt have that shitty high end fizz.
Have you tried the JHS 250 OD pedal? Heard it’s ok but adds a bit more bass which I don’t like.
@@alexpapadimitriou6242 Hi, I’m not in the same ball park now and I don’t use the dod’s anymore . I still love Malmsteen though ;)
@@KennyLarvitz any other drives do you recommend that gets into similar 250 but more flexible ? I saw the Kernon Ridge and that looked interesting.
@@alexpapadimitriou6242 I’m more Tube screamer , Fuzz etc now , very classic so I can’t tell you.
Mantap
Terima kasih
hi, could you tell me how do you connect the effect pedals in the amp in loop? Cheers!
In a show or recording, the audience will not feel any difference. For guitarists the difference is almost nothing too.
Y need a good ear here..I’m lost lol...I’ll take the grey DOD..only because it’s history 😀
dod 308 best..
Fender sounds more open than the other ones.
