- Acela with tons and tons of horn flying through the snow at Mansfield, MA while lots of people wait for the Stadium Train in the winter's first snowstorm!
Three things:
1. Those people standing in the cold snow like it's no big deal: AWESOME!
2. That Acela went through the station in four seconds: AWESOME!
3. Your camera DID NOT "bend-slant" the train while speeding through: TRIPPLE AWESOME TO YOU!!!
So that's what it's called! Bend slant
It was not a digital camera, but a "normal" one as you can tell from the bad quality of the video. What you call "bend-slant" (what a dumb expression really) only happens with digital cameras. The reason is how the sensors in those work. Ergo: Knowing your shit keeps you from making stupid statements on UA-cam.
For extra context, that slant is caused by a thing in cameras called "rolling shutter" which can still happen in film cameras due to the physical movement of the shutter, and in digital cameras by the vertical scan of the sensor. I believe The Slow Mo Guys and Smarter Every Day both have great videos on the subject!
4. The train did not derail and everybody in the station lived to tell how they were soaked by wet snow.
No need to be a snobby, pretentious bastard. Do UA-cam a favor and keep this kind of behavior on the cesspool that is Reddit.
One of those hidden gems of UA-cam. Must be one of the top 10 train videos out there.
Agreed!
You're welcome
....I guess...
Why is it? Train in snow, did I miss something?
@@Aus78Formula Cause train fast snow cool

"..The train is your friend, but the train will not stop. Please remain behind the yellow line..."
It suits extremely well to Pakistani and Indian stations
No it says jump on line
This is completely awseome. Tons of snow, fastness in speed, and the strength of the multi note continuous horn that changes pitch as Acela superspeeds to stops south. Being an Avid Acela passenger, it is good to hear the horns from the outside. Everybody knows to StandBack not only due to the yellow line, but with common-sense - a snow bomb is coming at 95 plus mph - wind-speed-and Horn! I completely enjoy the Acela and what you captured in this video. After 2 years, it still Blows awesome! Catch another Acela - SOON!
It changed pitch due to the Doppler effect.
In England the trains probably woulnn't be running, but here comes an Acela doing over 100 mph in deep snow and temperatures way lower than what we have over here. Also that musical sounding horn is awesome.
Those new trash Acelas probably won't do it either.
That's usually because staff cannot get to the depot and successive governments of all colours don't buy snow clearance equipment on the basis that it's only a once in 5- 10 year event and only lasts a few days. Unlike Sweden, or The USA which has it on an annual basis
That horn is just one chord, what you're hearing is the Doppler effect. Ironically, the US is really the only country where you can hear it on a regular basis at 100+ mph because in Europe the horns are anemic and in Japan, they hardly ever use them. But in good ole, America the rules require drivers to routinely blow the shit out of their horns at all speeds.
@@michlo3393 European Train Control Signalling [ECTS] makes horns less necessary less often. Plus engineering windows or blockades means people not milling around the tracks. Fast tracks are often away from platforms through the middle or too the side most High Speed lines are 4 lines [2 Up 2 Down]
@@nixcails Well the signalling doesn't have much to do with the horn, it's just the goofy rules that exist on American railroads that require its use. As for blasting by people on the platform at high speed? Yeah, I don't know lol For some of those folks, that 150 mph train screaming by them may have been the SAFEST part of their day!
I love the sound of the horn!! It sounds like it's going by multiple times.
That Doppler effect though
This could be shown in science class as a perfect example of it

ok so I am not a train guy but this video got suggested to me and I have watched it 100 times in the last 3 days. it does something for my adhd.
It must be a little terrifying for the engineer thinking someone could slip or fall off the platform!
Cal Gary eh not his problem
Peter DellaFlora unfortunately she's only worth about 2 points.
Cal Gary. No one would have a chance to survive. Turn them into hamburger. Can only imagine with trains getting so fast if a cow or moose stepped in front of one

I love watching the Acela pass by. It's like modern art in motion.
You haven't seen the European TGV

Those are seasoned travelers and commuters of the NEpassenger / commuter trains in the northeast corridor. They know the deal, of the Acela Express being clocked at hitting that non stop station at 150 mph, guaranteed ! I bet that the train engineers chuckles every time his Acela blows through that station, GUARANTEED ! “ Got ‘em, again, HeHe “ !
This is Acela at its finest showing off the the Snow! I was superspeeding in snow from Phillie to D C, in the snow, and we were a Big Fast Moving white snow ball flying down the tracks. It was completely Awesome.
Good Catch.
Thanks Bud.

And to think I don't feel sorry a bit for all those people. I love it !!!
Hahaha thanks!
Vin diesel must have been driving that train!
Nope.
Have a look, there's more videos.
@@DilworthConnor why
Hello. I've been looking at several videos of people filming the Acela moving at near top speed. But I have to say while brief (no surprise), your video is the coolest Acela video I've seen so far. The reasons: (1) the warning to the passengers (2) the platform full of passengers heeding the warning (3) the plume of snow when the train passes (4) the blaring of the horn, and of course (5) the train itself. Well freakin' done!
Good of the driver to use so much warning on the horn. Great video
Next time some Londoner complains about half an inch of the whitestuff, I'm showing them this video. Next time Network Rail cancels all the trains because of the 'wrong kind of snow', I'm showing them this video. Next time I hear a southerner moaning about how cold 5°C is - *I'm showing them this video!*
Inky Scrolls Yes, but we don't have a deathwish in this country.
@@mrmonstermunch3925 deathwish? Please, you guys cancel at leaves
superROTV ikrrrrrrrr
to be fair, I'm sure it costs extra to take the measures necessary to make train and track safe to operate in this kind of weather, weather that is very rare here in London
Likewise with leaves on the line to be fair our trains generally run faster and closer together, so stopping distance becomes a bigger issue with the signals being closer together to support the additional trains
The vid is beautiful. I love the acela going through snow at Mansfield MA.
I love how you can literally see the air displacement because of the snow as the train pulls the air in behind it... epic lol
Wow..!! Its really challenging to be a loco-pilot (train-engineer) and that too in such adverse climatic conditions..!! Love and Respects from India.. :)
12 years old and it's aged like a fine wine.
One of my all time favourite things to do when I was running commuter trains.
@claimless no, the engineer just blew the horn cuz he wanted people to back up
I think some stations in Wellesley MA have requirments to blow the horn
Correct. This station is in Mansfield MA. Right at the North Common with the look back as it passes (heading south) over the bridge over State Route 106.

Hi everybody! I believe that this is best vedio about high-speed trains that I saw! The person that vedio this deserves an award! Amtrak's discovered a great invention: The Acela which can top it's speed up to 150 mph! It's all right to compete against other countries, but Amtrak has to draw the line as they improve the rail system, they have to take things into consideration such as: not improving the rail system dilegently enough will danger the lives of people. Something to think about.
*Video*
I remember when I lived in France (30 years ago), I’d wait every morning on the platform for my train to work. It was on the same line as TGV Lyon and it would pass through while I’d wait. I’d turn my back towards it and it would streak by blaring that obnoxious horn - it’d take a spoonful of my soul and age me a little every time. If I were chit chatting and not paying attention I’d leap out of my skin.
The ICE trains in Germany are like also.
The Acela is pretty much a TGV as well, albeit more limited in speed. Alstom, the French builder of the Acela decided to give a more "special" name to its North American model because ... 'Murica! Sadly the Acela runs at that (limited) maximum speed for only a tiny portion of its route. It's still very impressive if you've never been on its French sibling.
Waited 53 years to see this . Thank you 🙏🏻
"Train approaching, and it's going like a bat out of hell, GTF back out of the way unless you like being media blasted with ice crystals!"
Brings a smile to my face everytime I watch this.
Man the nostalgia is always here with us 😌
I feel old now 😂
I remember watching this when I was 8 lol
Even 13 years later, this is the best Acela video.
awesome train video and this guy was flying.
That horn is serious nightmare fuel. Gotta love it.
Great video. Train has a K3LA horn, extremely high in pitch due to the Doppler of the high speed approach. We ride the Acela and really enjoy it. Reminds me of riding the Bullet trains when I lived in Japan.
Nah dude, that's a Hybrid K5LA. I don't think Amtrak owns K3LA's
+Captain Justice on there yard equipment they do at least in Oakland they do
Alex Robison I think that's the only locomotive group with K3LA's then
Conductor Robes I don’t think that Amtrak has K3LA’s. In this video, you can hear the Hybrid K5LA, which also sounds like a K3LA
You have to give it to the rail people. They know the engines, where they were built, the arcane facets of bogie geometry, what year the steel plant that made the car bodies went out of business and the make and model of horns.
An Acela train snuck up on me while I was sitting on a bench at a marina in Rhode Island. The doppler effect was amazing and it got crazy loud as it passed me.
Here in Europe highspeed trains are not allowed to pass a platform with such speeds like this. But man the horn of the Acela is sweet!!!
That isn't actually true. 200kph past platforms has been the norm in Germany for over 50 years. Nowadays, it's even legal with passengers on the platform as long as there are warning signs and markings, and there has to be a warning announcement. No blowing of the horn though.
Absolute nonsense! Trains pass through station platforms at 125mph at many locations across the UK. Again, people on the platform are asked to stand behind the yellow line. Where do you get your stupid idea from?
@@apusupa738 Not true in anything the commenter has said. Where does he get that idea from?
Omg..look at the weather...I wish I could see this once in life time
Reminds me of the Strelnikov train scene in David Lean's Doctor Zhivago. The horn, the weather, the people backing up....
Omg omg !!! This is everything
I thought only the Koreans flew through a station at those speeds, as I found out one night in Suwon, S. Korea. It was night. I was standing on the platform waiting for my train. I heard 2 or 3 whistles ( like sports officials whistles ) at each end of platform. Next the headlight appeared off in the distance and in seconds an express train went flying thru the station much like this one. It was truly breath-taking. I thought, "Those crazy Koreans"! LOL
I was stationed at Suwon in '85-'86. For a country that most think is behind the times, their public and mass transportation systems beats the hell out anything we have. But their drivers are as crazy as any we have here.
@@danburch9989 i really want to see the list of countries that most think is behind the times
All around the world where there are high speed railways, trains go through stations as fast as the maximum permitted line speed. In Britain, the maximum speed on our main lines is 125 mph. They do not slow down to pass through stations unless there are restrictive signal aspects, or there is a temporary speed restriction.
I love the little blink the train does at 0:24 I always imagine it just freezing on that image super cool!
HOLY MOLY THAT IS SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Snow? What snow?
Absolute power and beauty
Other countries: Due to Snow all services are running slower.
America: What snow
Exclude Norway please. Here everything runs normal with meters of snow ❄️
In the UK its, due to an inch of snow on the line all service has been cancelled.
MA A I didn’t know that it must be usual for them as that country is in the North.
Magnus Walker wow we cancel over 2 feet of snow
It is called. Winter ❄️🥶 !!! Move to Florida..
great video
Do they normally go through stations at that speed? That is nuts.
My Channel yup. I've seen them go through South Attleboro and Kingston (RI) at around that speed,
And in snow? America is behind in general for high speed rail, but this is superior for winter weather. This is Japan level.
@@assaulth3ro911 I live outside of Tokyo and the Shinkansens go through some of the rural stations at 300km/h (granted in clear weather)
@@assaulth3ro911 We are indeed behind in most areas, but on the NEC, yes, this is normal. Trains here don't stop for some snow. We've seen worse.

most kick-ass Doppler effect I have ever heard!
Yaaas!!! I love riding that when it's flying down the rails!!
The way it disappears into the snowstorm thooo
With so many people on the platform, the engineer had to make a lot of noise to alert people that the train was not going to stop and instead fly through at 150 mph. I bet some people thought it was their train coming.
WOW!
That was the fastest train on Amtrak
Best Acela video period.
The Northeast is the only part of the USA where Amtrak actually owns the rails. Everywhere else they have to pay freight companies to use the rails. What a difference ownership makes.
Actually that's not entirely true. Amtrak owns much of the Michigan line as well.
It would have been great if, after the train went through, people on both sides of the platform lifted an arm and shouted "Strelnikov!!"
the people on the planet platform are like. SSSSHHHHIIIITTTT

I was in my car at a Train Crossing in Iowa, and I realized there was a lot of snow on the Tracks and the Train had a Big Snow Plow on the front. Tried to get the idiot behind me to back up, he wouldn’t budge, and actually moved up. Train comes by, snow goes completely over my car, buries him. LOL

This video is awesome. Engineer tried to warn them. If I was there and heard all that horn I would backed it up big time. Lol
Would not want to step in front of that beast.
Please make a new video like this if it ever snows this winter! Hopefully you have a new phone with HD. ;)
That would b your last ""step"""!😑💩
If you ever get the chance to do that, then do it!!!!! We were waiting at the Kingston station in RI when the Acela went by. I think the oncoming air pressure is changed somehow, you kind of lose your breath for a second or two.
that's one way of moving the masses!
Acela coming through!
It's a safety thing. Snow is very acoustic and sound deadening. I lived near train tracks and when it snowed they used the horn a lot more, especially at stations and crossings.
Damn that was fast !
The greatest horn show in youtube!!
"...with tons and tons of horn" is for us train geeks what "...with tons and tons of beautiful girls" is for most guys!
American train horns are also higher pitched than British ones.
Glenn Cumbria That was because of the Doppler Effect.
