    I highly recommend to watch the whole video as you can see the change in daylight, weather and elevation as the trip goes.
    But if you want to fast forward to the truly juicy stuff it starts at Mjølfjell @1:46:46 and get gradually worse as we climb to the top. It stays pretty juicy with lots of snow coming over the front until we reach Geilo Station @3:10:53.
    And please leave a comment below, even just an emoji will help heaps as it drives engagement! ❤❤❤❤❤
    I hope you enjoy this video :)

      I really, really have enjoyed watching this one. Sure, you can see the daylight getting better during the ride, but the snow.....I found it sometimes a bit scary. Seeing the photo's you took at Ustaoset, the locomotive is almost wholly covered in snow (the front, that is). This really takes a lot of concentration when riding. I have watched it till Ustaoset, but will watch the remaining of the ride tomorrow. Thank you for sharing, RCG. What a ride.

      Of course I watched the whole trip...as I did many times before. I noticed that snow was already covering the ground from Bolstadoyri and not elevated after Voss. Normally you don't bring the train all the way up to Honefoss but only to Al. Why was that?

      Just noticed this before going to sleep way too late. I'll definitely watch it all! (I can't wait for it, but will have to a full day as I'm busy tomorrow...)
      EDIT: now that I watched it: it was worth the long wait!!! From an otherworldly rainy morning through snowstorm to sparkling sunshine.

      This was my 1st time watching a video from this perspective. I had the same question (and figured someone must have asked it). Thanks for politely answering it. I'm sure it gets old answering the same questions. I'm surprised that in 136 years, someone hasn't invited and/or installed quiet digital ones! For your sake, I hope it happens soon!

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  Рік тому +109

      you can't simply just install a new speedometer. it would require adjustments to the systems reading the axel speed as well. Hassler does have solutions for this and they did change the speedometers on the old Class 69C when they refurbished them into the Class 69C II. But it is about cost, and now days they won't change anything that is working. You know how it is when econ educated people are making the decisions for the engineers and crew based on the numbers in the budget. LOL

    • @bobroska38
      @bobroska38 Рік тому +19

      These videos by railcowgirl are fascinating! I can't stop watching. I haven't noticed it in this video as much as in some others, but why do you toot the horn when you pass a particular yellow sign with a black stripe? Most of the time the horn blow is in the middle of nowhere. Not at a road crossing, or anywhere else a warning would be appropriate. Thanks!

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  Рік тому +125

      @@bobroska38 Believe me there is a crossing there. The hornsignals are used mainly for unsecured level crossings, level crossings with lights, level crossings with lights and half gates, level crossings with low visibility to approaching train. The signals are also used for halts along the line to tell people that a train is approaching, but it is only the ones that have a schedule stop there that needs to sound the horn.
      = General Warning
      = Level crossing
      = Halt
      = halt and level crossing at the same place
      = no need to sound horn between 10pm and 6am if in combination with the above :)
      Hope this answer your questions :D

    Hello R.C.G., First I thank the Lord for people like you who share their experiences but don't know the actual positive effect it may have on others, you do it just out of the goodness your heart and I thank you. I have been watching your videos for years now.
    When I was young in the US, West Virginia I lived in a house by a creek, and across the creek was a train track that ran parallel to the creek. Each night there would be much anticipation because the train did not come by every night. When it did falling asleep would be so simple. The sound of the train going over the track and all the other sounds that came with an old coal mining train barrelling through meant for brief meditation and quick sleep. Of course, at that age, I had no idea I was meditating.
    In the past when watching your videos I could not hear the outside sounds. But your videos are so enjoyable I would watch them without sound and play music. Today I saw your train covered in snow and I had to take the ride. Unannounced to me, once the train started to move I could hear all of the sounds. @:14:00 mark in Bulken - Voss you had to let another train go by. Once you started I could hear every sound of you starting, the wipers, each click over the tracks, the sound of you picking up speed in the tunnel. I could tell when you exited the tunnel by sound, because for some reason I could now hear all the outside sounds and I loved it. I have not been watching as much as I did in the past because the sound always seemed to be muffled like there was a hand over the mic. I don't know how long ago the sound in your videos changed (or if I missed something in the past and it was always like this), but I would say for those who love to watch, having the sound with the ride is such an added enhancement, it is something I can't describe from a meditation standpoint accept to say WONDERFUL!
    The moment @2:26:15 when you come out of the tunnel, was visually stunning. I believe that moment could only be captured by someone who does what you do.
    Keep up the good work R.C.G. and thanks for such wonderful videos.

    Wow, What a run!! It is reallya plow-run over the mountain pass. I found it a bit scary from time to time. I do admire such people like you, who are doing their job very well under extreme circumstances. The locomotive looks like, it had a role in Star Wars: very white-out. It requires a great amount of concentration to ride such a ride. Thank you for sharing this Blizzard-run.

    I'm semi-retired and now volunteering as a coach driver for OAPs in Australia. I wish I could volunteer as a train driver! Your vids are a godsend - a chicken soup for the soul! And I particularly enjoy the 'Norway In A Nutshell' runs, as I did it as my friends' 2009 wedding gift to their guests in Bergen, and again on the long way home! Kudos to RailCowGirl, you are wonderful!

    I myself have come back to this video a few times, thank to RCG’s wonderful filming; I think it shows how the weather really can change during a trip across the mountains. If you people never been there, or actually been skiing part of the route Finse/Haugastøl/Ustaoset in the wintertime, this video shows us how the trip might be. Just imagine how it is when you are skiing part of the distance, and the weather changes from blue sky and sun to a white inferno, in half an hour. If you are well equipped, it is wonderful to be there!

    Another magnificent video, thanks so much. I especially like the effects of the light at the start of the run up the fjord (yes the snow later is pretty fabulous, too!) but the contrasts between the lights from the houses, the gradual glimmer from the sky and the outline of the mountains and the careful way you manage brightness of the tunnel lighting for us makes for really great photography.

    You have the best videos on UA-cam. I love the background noise! I use it often for more relaxed sleeping. You are an asset to both the country and the Norwegian rail industry. I loved seeing that 'secret' cavernous turntables room near Fines. Also enjoyed learning that the ice planet Hoth scene from Star Wars ep 5 was filmed there.
