    Wow. It's very nice work and very professional. I wish I have a basement, but I don't. I have a slab under my house. But I do have a large attic. I'm thinking about remodeling it. I would love to have a finished attic with lots of skylights and windows.

    Is it allowed by code to place a door that close to a security panel like that? In NC you have to have a separate room with access. Other than that and all the doors down there came out nice.

      Depends on your inspector...in Harrisburg PA you can do it, in other areas they frown on it.

  • @gordongates791

    Great video! I especially like the idea of using doors for the electrical panel and water shutoff valves. I also liked the half wall ideas you talk about in your videos. I used that and I think it will look great (once I'm done). One question, what do you think of using solid or engineered wood floors in a basement?

    • @BasementFinishingMan
      @BasementFinishingMan  9 років тому

      Thanks Gordon! I'm not a fan od "real" hardwood flooring in basements due to higher than normal humidity levels and the fact that most concrete floors just are not perfectly flat...they roll and dip and pitch and this is not a good base for a tongue and groove solid hardwood floor project.
      Good luck with your project Gordon! Thanks for visiting my Basement Finishing Channel.

    In your bookcase video you use wood to build a box and slide it into an opening framed into the wall. The box is then trimmed out with a casing. The niches look like they are drywalled. How would I frame them if I want to drywall the niche?

    That is the clean-out cap for the front yard sewage lateral line. We had to keep it exposed in this basement project just in case that sewage line ever needs "snaked-out" because of a clog!

  • @PSA7788

    I am curious..... Why no subfloor ? Especially in Pennsylvania that concrete will get cold. I see what appear to be baseboard heaters but there are 2 furnaces in the house. Why baseboard heaters and are they hot water ? Thanks

    • @BasementFinishingMan
      @BasementFinishingMan  6 років тому +1

      That's backup 220 volt electric heat your seeing in the video use only if you need to supplement the central heating system or in emergency situations where the primary system would be broken down or off-line for a while. The Primary is a forced hot air central A/C system system which heats and cools awesome in the basement! Nobody uses wood sub-floors in PA...at least no one that I know...it's just not needed and a tremendous waste of time and resources if the basement is properly heated. This basement and it's floor are warm and comfortable in the PA winters.

    Awesome Video they all are in fact. My parents are getting their basement waterproofed they had a small mold issue and its getting done by one of the top waterproofing companies. My question is they have the old wood panels on the wall after thats taken down what type of walls do you suggest. I see so many people saying not to use drywall/gypsum board even mold/mildew proof, then some people say its fine Im trying not to put walls up to have to take them down if you know what I mean. Appreciate your videos i watch and study them as much as I can to get more knowledge.

    • @BasementFinishingMan

      Correct any existing water issues 100% first! Then you ca use 2" x 4" walls with pressure treated bottom plates and 1/2" drywall to finish your new walls. Been doing it this way since 2002 and have had GREAT success with this model. Good luck with your basement project shogunMR!

I have about 900 sg feet of area in my basement. I'm looking at 2 bedrooms, a TV room, bathroom a storage/utilities room. Also, what should I expect to pay for the finished job? • @BasementFinishingMan
      @BasementFinishingMan  7 років тому +1

      No waterproofing unless the basement has issue...in that case we do an interior perimeter waterproof system with duel sump pumps. No Spray foam but on occassion we will use ROXUL as a fireblocking method or a soundproof method.

    • @BasementFinishingMan
      @BasementFinishingMan  9 років тому

      +swayze2699 Hello! Well...you actually frame the TV niche the exact same way you would frame for a bookcase or a stereo rack built-in. I usually leave about 1/4" to 1/2" between the edge of the TV and the niche edges on all sides of the TV.
