I'm 40 years old now. Got out my Dookie guitar tab book and couldn't quite remember this one off the top of my head. I actually like this demo version better than the studio recording, which I just previously listened to. I remember an MTV interview and Billie Joe was asked a question about acoustic guitar, and I remember him saying that if a song is good then it will sound good on an acoustic guitar as well. This song is a shining example of that. I was just finger picking the chords moderately slow on acoustic while singing in a light and upbeat mood and it still sounds good af.
He said he writes everything on acoustic and Mike added that a good rock song will sound good on acoustic. As is evidenced by their acoustic shows, have you heard the acoustic version of Paper Lanterns?! It's amazing.

We were having locker clean out there in the 7th grade and my best friend has been my best friend now for 30 years he found this cassette tape on the top of a trash can and man we listen to that thing all summer long. That was the beginning of the rest of my life dude.

Best Green Day song ever written. The harmonies are so damned pretty and the bass line in the verses serves the song so well. You can see where Alkaline Trio's bassist got the inspiration for Mr Chainsaw. Soooooo underrated.
