His world championship win against Higgins those years back was the best I've ever seen. The mental strength he showed was quite unbelievable. That period where he won a couple more world titles was the best from any player anytime. You can understand if it takes a toll on you when he spoke about his mental health.

Surely one of the greatest player in the game of snooker. Mark Shelby is so professional with his attitude and the sport, he has been my favourite player no matter what people and critics have to say on his gameplay strategies. I hated him because he seemed boring and he was giving a tough time to ronnie. But he made me his fan by his dedication and hardwork.. he really doesn't give up .. despite the mental challenges.. hats off

One of the greatest to ever play! People liken him to Ebdon, but he's vastly VASTLY superior to him in snooker and is entertaining to me just as much as ronnie is. I enjoy his tactical mind play.
I agree, potting every ball is entertaining but you do need the tactical and the Snookers in snooker, that's just as entertaining.

I always was a Selby fan. Even when everybody was going "slowby" etc... So much respect for the hard work, the dedication, the struggle, the class. Such an idol to me. Wish to become a player like him.

When I tried talking to the WDBS about my mental health struggles they didn't want to know and actually ostracised me and have ignored all attempts at contact ever since. Yet they come under the umbrella of the WST so because of the lack of support I was forced to retire from playing 2 years ago.

Can someone catch me up? Haven't been following the pro tour super closely but last I checked Selby was a top 5 player in the world easily, often number one. What happened?
He has had very bad depression due to past issues and has struggled since his last World Championship win, personally and with his snooker game. It was so lovely to see this win and watch him get back to his best.
He had dropped a long way down the rankings as well, and would have been low down once the World ranking points came off. This win puts him high up once again, where he should be.
Wish he'd jump around again like he used to that was prime Selby
