- The video "COUCHSURFING IS NOT FREE. COUCHSURFING IS PAYABLE TO ALL USERS!" serves one goal which is to spread awareness how the platform was sold for profit. NOW THE DIRECTORS OF COUCHSURIFNG HIT THE LAST PIN IN ITS COFFIN.
After creating a cheap version of facebook by creating the "Friends" option and allowed dodgy users to keep hovering around with their fake and pervert profiles among the true travelling spirits eventually made the platform sort of like tinder 2.0 -the backpacker edition.
Frankly, these things never diverted my fellow tramper and my soul`s attention and love from this service which is rather a way of living!
Yesterday, the directors announced that due to the "crisis: caused by COVID-19 has put the service to danger where they are no longer able to meet their "financial needs"....
Well, guess what!? Before it became a for-profit organisation, it had been always able to meet its needs! It is frustrating how greed poisoned perhaps the biggest help for broken travellers!
Couchsurfing was always a way of travelling, expression of lifestyle and mindset. In fact, it became a brand and people used to be "wearing" it proudly!
We, the couchsurfing family is upset and angry at the directors of this organisation because we just got betrayed! Not to mention that using the pandemic coronavirus to justify why everyone needs to pay who live in a developed country is not only cheap but a clear discrimination.
Let this video be not only educational but also the echo of the dirtbag backpacker soul who is clinging on not needing the penny to be on the road....

All the people I've met on CS were not just friendly and nice, they were also in mind of not using money and found the love as the highest value. So sorry to see company profiting from such an amazing community.. :(
it has become a filthy site...I would think that next level will be that you need to pay a fee to CS if you find a host :D
Did you find another option that could do same? I'm in England and would like to meet people and it was highly recommended
@@sebasgiraldomusica Bewelcome and Trustroots are free accommodation sites but they are not as big as couchsurfing yet but if we all promote them as a community maybe they will grow to replace couchsurfing
I totally agree, the idea of profiting from the generosity of people opening their doors to travelers for no money exchanged is disgusting I won't be endorsing this brand in the future. BeWelcome is the new couchsurfing as it's free and survives off donations which has kept the real spirit of open travel.

Yeah, you are right. Luckily, people start to be awaken and see the negative side of CS which solely built by its new, stingy directors. I stand by that it should be free!!!
@@TeePolgar If they made it a one off donation request with no recurrent fees, I might have actually supported them with the 15.USD. This "monthly" and "yearly" plan is really the only thing that makes it seem like a money grab.

I agree too... philosophy of CS was not about money. I can't understand why they do that. I will not pay and I hope no one will do..because then the sense of CS is over😢🙈
And the worser thing is that they even didn't send the subs a mail to explain that😶
Well, I was a host in couchsurfing for more than 9 years, I only used it to travel 2 times and I hosted literally hundreds of people, I loved the experience so far, but I feel absolutely betrayed
Right now when my house is free and i want to have people over I face 2 options
1- Use a platform that allow me to host people and show them around without getting any benefits and paying for it with couchsurfing
2- Get paid to host someone on my house on platforms like airbnb when I can not only choose who stays but also have a company covering me is something goes wrong
now think what will be my decision in the future and also think what will be the decision for the majority of the hosts, now think about the future of couchsurfing with no hosts...
I loved the platform for a long time, but for me is clearly dead.

End of 2015 I started get very active as host, it was great for 2 years or so, then became less active but still been hosting, previous just few months ago. Just today recognized this paywall when I received a couch request which able to read on mail. Don't forget to review couchsurfing on their app, I'd way too high rating since 2016 I'd to edit of how it's now and past time.
I have no problem paying for services. I even have registered total commander and winRar because they are so useful. But here it's me providing the service. I host people since 2011, take them around, shelter them, feed them, guide them, make sure they have the best possible experience. I've even made a small website with tips and trips for my country. I've organized and hosted numerous events. And at te top of that I should pay some 3rd party for doing so? No thank you. At least let me log into my profile so I could delete the photos and all! :(
Vultures are already circling over the decaying CS. A few days ago I got a message from someone trying to make some sort of air bnb/Couchsurfing hybrid based around unusual local stay and experience..

I will miss CS. I won't pay now, but if I miss the community much, then I might join. I am so confused :(
I guess we all have this contradiction because the money is not so bad that is asked for the service but it is fundamentally wrong! on the other hand there are those people who caused lasting memories in us and now they are not reachable...:/

yall they make you pay like 15 dollars a year (even less if youre not from a rich country) and you're complaining? there are real people behind the company and they are doing the bare minimum to survive and keep the company afloat during a global pandemic so the rest of us can go back to enjoying it when everything ends. data costs money, its quite simple. i don't understand how yall expected a company with millions of users to remain free when they are dealing with that much data storage. sorry but these comments are just filled with privileged cheapskates. I am not even traveling this year but I am still paying because I want the company to stay afloat. its 2 dollars a month, don't be fucking ridiculous.
I can't get my data nor can I delete my account without paying. Death to couchsurfing I am not paying. Been there for 15 years and I just want to delete my profile.

I thought that couchsurfing became a scam app, because some people said like "don't pay, it is scam." At least I know that the app is still working
I had awesome stays using CS. I not only saved on accommodation but also met really great people. I don't mind supporting them. Their annual subscription is nothing compared to what I saved and the memories I have of those trips are priceless.
I did my register for that I did a guide torur in my coty only for help and I was doing organization of meetup in my city so, help each other was the reason I will go to create my profile in other sites vlike bewelcome or trustroots and support them

You are absolutely right! Luckily, they havent lost all sense and compassion on the road that os paved by greed and stinginess...Some countries` users still have the free access, such as Iran and by your comment; India too

I only just got started on couchsurfing , this was a disappointing turn off. It's meant to be for free as people are offering their homes for free ! They make enough money from advertising and account verification !
So many experiences are just4 made impossible by this move...:/

Send request based on GDPR right. Hope they just delete my personal data forever. They eoarned money using me and my personal data for a years. Now I cant even enter to checkcontacts or delete my account. I need to pay to delete account. Really?
They got their real user database including their names, locations, interests e.t.c becouse it was free. Now couchserfing want to make money from this database and make extreamily hard to delete your account from the site
