  • The LattePanda Alpha First Look and PC Gaming Test
    The Alpha is a beast! In this video, I take a look at the all-new LattePanda Alpha Single Board Computer, Go over the specs and then put it to the test and see how it runs PC games like Skyrim, GTA 5, Overwatch, DOOM and Fortnite.
    At the time of making this video, the LattePand is the most powerful consumer available single board computer.
    Correction: the PSU is 10 volts at 3 amps not sure where I got 5 amps from so it can do 30 watts, still plenty for this board.

    1. A small home server for multiplayer open world survival games like Rust, Ark and Minecraft.

  • @TheRacePig
    @TheRacePig 5 років тому

    Bit of a note on something you mention in the video, you mentioned getting slightly better performance while having v-sync enabled with some intel iGPUs, and there is a reason for that. Mostly it's due to how frames are paced out at regular intervals depending on your frame rate, so 50ms at 20fps or 33ms at 30fps, etc, whereas with v-sync off the computer is just spitting out frames whenever it can which can lead to exacerbated bottlenecks in memory bandwidth or CPU limitations, that sort of thing. V-sync can help reduce this by spacing out those frames and making sure the computer doesn't get stuck on one of those bottlenecks leading to huge stutters or something.

    Hi, thanks for the great vid - I'm wondering if this will be suitable for audio programs? If you could Geekbench it and link to the results - it has a memory latency test and that usually gives a good indicator of where the system is for handling low latency uninterrupted audio. Many systems with 'embedded' RAM aren't well configured with this and end up with anything up to 200ns (80ns is standard DDR3 Laptop level in my experience). Thanks in advance!

  • @ravagingwolverine

    Nice to see an overview of this product. I said it before in regard to the GPD Win 2, but the choice of Core M is a bit baffling to me. Intel has, in the past at least, kept the price of Core M quite high. This is reflected in the prices of those. It is a possible case of the product being fairly priced for the tech, but too high for the intended target buyers. Now we see that Odroid H2 is coming and perhaps at a far lower price, even after buying memory and other associated things. The J4105 may be considerably lower in price to use in such a product, but should be quite capable in performance at the same time. Of course we must see prices, but J4105 products already exist with $80 motherboard/CPU products as well as mini PCs coming in under $200. Either way, this was good to see. Keep doing what you do, ETA Prime.

    This is pretty impressive for something that small. Not sure what its worth would be though, it has some portable charm but there are also problems with said portability if you're carrying around extra peripherals. That is looking at it as a multi-function device.

    Very interested to see GameCube and PS2 emulation on this! Also, are there cases available for this board?

    Honestly if you want a portable handheld for PC gaming on the go that's what this would be worthwhile for, But hmm... What kind of battery would you need for this to run for like 2-6 hours though?

    what about hooking up a 1080p camera with a capture card, and using this pc as a transcoder, probably with quick charge battery pack? i mean using this pc as a portable livestreamer.

    Question: can you change the CPU fan curve? Using speedfan for example. If you could control the fan you could get better cooling with a little more noise though.

    • @ETAPRIME
      @ETAPRIME  5 років тому +1

      I’ve only been able to change when the fan comes on and goes off no curve profiles available in the bios. But the fan is really quiet the way they have it set up and I’ve been able to undervolt the cpu to keep it cool.

    I would love to see it compared, in a build, to the smallest mini it build Ryzen 3 2200g build running it's Vega 8 graphics. You can build them incredibly small, and incredibly cheap.

    Is the ICSP header present for the onboard AVR core so that I could wipe out the Arduino firmware and replace it with something useful? Thought of using alike as a mediacenter in my car, with rewiring the AVR core for OBD or CAN access (CAN via programmable logic or an MCU swap ;) ).
