such a pretty piece of music. all the textures and the pacing of everything keeps it so entertaining for the 24 minutes, yet could be put on as a background piece just as easily. i’m also a huge believer as cover art/videos playing an important role as a companion piece to the music, and the picture for this one is no exception. all of the chaos of code, yet it blends into one seemingly full sheet of green. i love that music can strike such an amazing core, with or without this attention to detail and care. at times it feels more human than actually being human. apologies for the rant, i just don’t know who/where i’d be without music, and i’m glad to see comments here showing similar (if not greater) passion.
This song is timeless. While some songs can make you feel nostalgic, this will always ring true to myself at the very moment I'm listening to it. It's been seven years now since I've first listened to this track. And what I feel is still the same, what I knew then will never change. Truly one of the best pieces of music ever. It will stay with me forever.
this is very interesting to me, especially with more modern reference points. The glittery beeps almost make me think of Autechres plyPhon in their sequencing, and the undulating pads in the back make me think of a dampened version of Reich’s MF18M
it feels like a section rewarding those who listen close enough and stick with the journey. it’s such a change in the song, yet feels so familiar at the same time.
3 things: 1: This is a really good song for zoning out or concentrating. Beautifully hypnotizing. 2: Bon Iver played this during a 15 minute break between his two sets when I saw him live in Oslo. First time I ever heard the track. So uplifting, and somewhat coherent with Bon Ivers themes. 3: One of my favorite house-tracks samples this tune as its main theme. You should listen to it. ( ua-cam.com/video/mVM1S_AITQM/v-deo.html )
I'm no sound quality snob, but 240p really doesn't do this justice...get the 94 diskont album on CD or wax to hear how this should sound. all the other tracks are fantastic as well, and Ovals' 'Dok' album is also essential
Most of this was sampled from another Oval song "Kardamom", which was also made up of samples. Many have said it's sampled from "Many Chinas" by Mark Isham, but I wonder if this is true or not. It does kind of sound like it. Has Markus Popp ever confirmed this?
Can someone explain to me what is so great about this music? Are you supposed to listen to it while on a substance? it just sounds like a cluster of noise to me. Its a little bit relaxing too I guess... I am not hating on this artist, I just want to learn more.
I bought this on a cassette by accident as an 13yr old kid. I was confused with the sound as well. I hated it. I thought it was not music. Like maybe my version was broken or such. But over the time I started to like it. I needed to hear this 10 times to appreciate little things in it. Find patterns, melodies, see the structure. Besides that, this is probably most relaxing stuff I ever heard.
When I first heard techno music (underground techno, not commercial stuff) it seemed incredibly boring and repetitive to me. After listening for several months, it finally clicked and I started hearing things in a different way. It requires changing your mind and appreciating subtle changes, atmosphere and aesthetics rather than cheap thrills.
+Artem Heikes it's really good for entering a peaceful state of mind.. Useful in that it can help you meditate, and just enjoy listening to. The textures and noise is really nice (you weren't wrong when you said it was a cluster of noise). Noise can be enjoyable to listen to as well. I like hearing planes fly by, chattering of leaves on the trees after a breeze, the subtle drip drops of water in a stream. It becomes music when you choose to take these sounds you like (some can be of your own creation, or taken from elsewhere) and arrange them in a way that is special and beautiful to you, the composer. If others enjoy it, woohoo! haha
+Artem Heikes It's entirely subjective. You either find inspiration in it or you don't. Nobody can ever judge anyone else for interpreting music in their own way.
Distorted albums and intentionally mutilated CDs by use of felt-tip pens on the optics side. Oval then fragments these sounds and uses them in the productions.
i was once told a steve reich sample was in this, apparently it's the vibraphone sample in the middle. does anyone know which piece it apparently samples :o
@@earthlivingful This seems likely, but I do wonder about "Many Chinas". The main sample is from another Oval song (don't recall the name), but that was probably also sampled.
Anyone can create so called "music"... you don't need a fantasy, a talent, just copy-paste one or two samples and that's all. 20 minutes about nothing... hard to believe that someone call's it "super", "fantastic", "great"... It's not relaxing - it's depresssing by cyclicity, there is no progress...
Men you can't say these kind of things with ya profile name, you know something about gymnopedies?, these music, Satie is music and the gipsy with the goat and the casio in front of my block is music.
Rayure Bob Do you take some drugs, man?? Of course its matter of taste, I'm just saying you don't need to have a big talent like Mozart or Beethoven to right such things - copy+paste=success formula. Nothing else...
Why do you even care ? Come on, we could just listen to music, like it (or not, whatever) and let others like whatever they want without arguing about what is the REAL talent, but no, you had to let us know about your opinion. Don't even bother, nobody gives a shit
prob one of my favorite pieces of music of all that i have come across in my 25 years on earth
One of my favourite pieces.

So beautiful, so divine. Hearts stop but art endures longer.
A true classic.

Indeed the best part. Absolutely brilliant on Oval's part.

Could this be a Steve Reich sample?
1337!

Oh god someone explain me what techniques were used to make the synth sound like this
oh broken cds
They sample from LP's that are usually ruined, so they achieve this unique sound

I hear looping and pitch shifting....did they state that they used the methods mentioned... sounds all manipulated
that;s it exacty. versy dangerous as beauty. the sound of the closed box inside of...
Reminds me of some sort of ALIEN Technology.
spot. on.
Love it

yoozy Check out Mark Isham 'Vapor Drawings'. I think he may have sampled a loop from that.
it's a sample from second movement of Steve Reich’s Four Sections
I thought it was Many Chinas by Mark Isham

I just meditated to this. 🌙🦋🌊
Wise words.

There's no such thing as "good music", it's only a matter of taste, so don't even bother giving us your shitty arguments, nobody cares.
