    This reminds me of our family trip we made during the early 90's when I was a little child (we were living in Japan then). I still remember taking the Odoriko. It was a white unit with a boxy shape. Would love to take the new one as it is by far more attractive

    What a stunning, beautiful train. Not just those seats, but the whole design and aesthetic, especially the big windows. Our new inter-city trains here in the UK are embarrassing next to this..

      You think your trains are embarrassing, on our trains one of the popular past times is to guess how far the spilt drink will spread across the floor before the last stop.

      It's the same here in USA. Trains are dirty inside and out, they hardly wash the dirt off. It all boils down to no pride, never on time, always depart late.

      USA has 3rd world Bureaucracy

    • @donlove3741
      @donlove3741 2 роки тому

      Why?
      There are no passenger stations
      If you're going from NYC to San Francisco. .
      Faster and cheaper by air.
      Japan is compact....
      Distances are not like the US or Canada..
      AMTRAK is a money loser.
      If capitalists ain't forking out cash then it's a loser.
      If government is involved then it's a loser.
      A train from San Diego to San Francisco would take 8hrs. A plane about 1 hr..

    Let me clarify why the seats are only on one side. Simply put it's because the line mainly runs with the sea to its east/south. So in order to attain good views for both passengers, JR East placed the seats to the right. Since this train's selling point is it's views you wouldn't want to be staring at the side of a cliff for the whole time, would you?

    • @CloudLilac1
      @CloudLilac1 3 роки тому +29

      I’m glad you brought this up. I think most people don’t know that these seats can also be swiveled around 180° by train staff when the train travels back in the opposite direction. This way, both seats can get optimal seaside views traveling to or away from Tokyo.

    • @brianb8516

      For that to work the train's orientation also cannot change (e.g. if the car at the end of the train that points towards Tokyo is now changed to face towards Izu instead, & vice-versa for the car @ the other end of the train), which would happen if the train entered a siding/depot that's perpendicular to the line (& accessible from both directions of travel along the line) & did a "3-point turn" there

    Thank you for including Euro prices! 😃 I was fine with Dollar but this gives me a better feeling for your voyages and how much they cost.

    14:05 There should be a button to make the chair go back in its original default position so you don't have to keep fiddling with the buttons

    I'm amazed at how noisy this train is inside. It's not as soundproof as any of the trains you showed us until now. Thought it looks amassing.

    I miss Japan but thanks for your videos, get to see and ride the shinkansen and local trains again hahaha! Hope this Covid will end soon so we can use our multiple Japan visas before it expires.😊

    Great trip. Looks like Japan launched many limited express train like this. It's strange to see the 1+1 seat configuration but the aisle not in center.

    Japan has the worlds very best passenger train network & service, very clean trains. I rode on a few of their commuter trains between Yokosuka & Tokyo’s Shinagawa station in just 45 minutes for the Red commuter train which was the 8 stop which was an Express.

      Yeah, Izu peninsula is one of the popular weekend getaways for busy Tokyo people. So many great seafood restaurants and Ryokans (traditional Japanese style inn), and hot springs especially in the cold winter season.
