I really miss Japan. I really appreciate that you put the prices of everything in your videos. It reminds me of what a great deal the JR Pass for tourists is and how much I need to appreciate them providing such a fantastic service.
This video makes me nostalgic because I travelled to Japan during Christmas 2017. It was so beautiful to see the Christmas decorations. Lovely video, as usual!
Hakata station was decorated very beautifully. Hats off for their hard work and thanks to you we get to see it. That was certainly a long journey but the bento and sweets help ne? 😉 Thank you for sharing another shinkansen adventure with all of us. 👍🏽👍🏽😊
The station looks so beautiful at Christmas. I used to love Union Station in Washington DC around the holidays because they had giant wreaths hanging at the entrance🎄
Thank you, Kuga-san for your videos. I have missed Japan these last two years and am eager to come back soon. It is pleasant to see and hear all the sounds of the train stations and trains even if I cannot be there.
I really like both, nighttime and daytime to see from the Shinkansen. Nighttime cause it’s so peacefully and daytime cause than you see the beautiful sceneries and nature from Japan. Love your videos. Keep up with the good work. Much love from the Netherlands
Arigato for the great video. I always love the atmosphere of the train stations in Japan. I missed the ekibens too. hope this pandemic will be end soon and i could visit Japan again.
I so want to go to Japan and ride the trains and see a Sumo grand tournament. If you come to the U.S. take a slow Amtrak sleeper train through the Rocky Mountains. Love your channel.
When traveling to Japan is still not possible, thanks for showing us around. I’ve always enjoyed my trips to Japan and can’t wait to return again when it’s possible. 🙏🏽
I love this video. There was no conversation, just the wonderful facts and astedics of the SHINKANSEN. The great Speed , the Great Food from the different Japanese cities impressed me..
From someone who’s been there multiple time, you will defo not regret it. I had such a great time there, great people & sights & cities & food. Remember to take the Tokyo Metro as well! It’s one of the very few times I’d call a metro system better than ours in Hong Kong. It’s fascinatingly complex and efficient.
If you ever come to Germany you should take a train running along the Rhine between Koblenz and Frankfurt. Doesn't matter which side, both are beautiful. There are ICEs running on that route though it's an older route that isn't very fast.
and not forget: searching for a Plandampf Tour, totally worth the afford and yeah, Rhine Valley is great, it's a tourist magnet for a reason, but the Hell Valley is also a great scenic route
We love to ride the trains in Japan. Your video is just what we miss in this pandemic when we are grounded at home during this holiday. Thanks, Kuga! 🥰💕💗💓
The hakata station looks fantastic with all those christmas lights, as you said the NOZOMI its an experience, would be great if you take that ride from Tokyo to Hakata during daylight to watch those landscape, by the way the Bento was so tasty, thank you
If you want to try a train in Australia, I recommend the tilt train in Queensland. But if you want a real adventure you need to take the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin. Just don't expect speed! 😅
@@cindycarr3460 most Australians have never seen a big dangerous spider like a Funnelweb. The only one most people will have seen is the Redback, which is very closely related to the American Black Widow. However, unless you plan to spend your time in back yard sheds instead of hotels, you're unlikely to see one. When hiking in America, I was worried about bears, but we never saw one. Every country has risks.
Loved this video - it brought back memories of a lovely time in Japan. We stayed in Nagoya (in the Marriott) and having the station (and the Shinkansen lines) in the hotel "basement" was amazing. A great base to visit a lot of places, so I was on that line several times. Just travelling on the Shinkansen was an amazing activity - without mentioning the actual destinations :)
It's still crazy to me that people are able to travel via public transportation AT NIGHT because it's SAFE. I'd love to travel to Japan someday just to experience that lol
Ohhhh that lobby is so beautiful. Very clean train 🚆. Some day I hope you do a Q and A about how you got into the transportation vlog business and how you manage to do your trips. But don't do it if it's uncomfortable. So many amenities on this train! Thanks for premiering otherwise I would not have seen the video! ❤️ Safe travels Kuga! 🙏✌️💪☃️
Before the pandemic, I used to travel to Japan at least once or twice a year, and have taken almost all Shinkansen lines. I like the Tokohu+Akita Shinkansen trains and double-decker Joetsu double-decker trains.
That's a great way to get to Tokyo. This train isn't covered by the Japan Rail pass sadly. But there's others that do that trip. The day and night time views from the Shinkansen are so delightful. Thank you
Kuga has done it again. This is a new Video for me and I really felt a part of the trip. I love Kuga's showing of the foods from the different regions of Japan. I find it amazing how Kuga can enjoy the different cuisines while simultaneously giving us the particulars about the speed of the SHINKANSEN and amenities aboard the Train. I really find myself spellbound while watching Kuga's Videos. Great Job Kuga 👍
If you ever come to Australia, id recommend the Ghan (multiple day premium service), Strahn-Queenstown railway in Tasmania, V-line train to Swan Hill in Victoria, Spirit of Queensland train from Cairns QLD to Brisbane QLD (25hr overnight service), among other ones
Thanks for the video. Really miss Japan. The familiar annoucements on the train. The clean and quiet environment. Shinkansen is awesome. Only thing is… do NOT bring big luggage onboard. There is no space for it.
Lovely “Christmas Card”, Kuga-san 😁🎄! Y’know, one thing surprised me: I had thought that the overhead lights might be dimmed on a night trip (although it’s a good thing for a videographer they don’t do that 🙂). I’m with you: I like either day or night travel 🙂, although that brings up another issue. I can’t decide whether I like the shinkansens better (because they are one of the most amazing things ever devised by the hand of man), or the more leisurely and more luxuriously appointed sleeper trains 🥰! I keep having this weird idea: Combine the Odoriko with the Sunrise Express … and make it a shinkansen! That would be the “ultimate JR train”, no? 😁❤️
hello, fastest train here in UK is 186mph/299kph Eurostar, section of line from London to channel tunnel. local train here in east midlands is 130mph I think. but you can also travel to most places in this country by rail, although ot is now expensive!
11:03 I took the Nozomi back from Tokyo to my apartment in Kyoto on December 29 or 30th 2016 after spending my end of year break in Tokyo and there was a massive line. Luckily I only had to wait 2 trains and there were a couple people standing in that area the whole trip.
I love that this train, which is the fastest, is called No Zoomie. (I know I’m probably pronouncing that wrong) ☺️ That station at the beginning was so beautifully decorated! Good luck with your aspirations of international train travel.
Very good video. I liked and have already subscribed. I would love to see you do a video of a long distance American train. Amtrak looks so ancient to your country’s trains. Hahahahaha
Let's wait a few years before you take Amtrak.. you'll probably be disappointed. Nothing makes me angrier about living in the United States than the fact that we don't have railroad opportunities and alternatives like you do in Japan. I lived in Japan in 1972 and riding the Shinkansen was wonderful.
Big fan of your video, my friend! My wife and I took the same route (at night as well) back in December 2018, but we started at Shin-Osaka instead. It's a pity that we can't visit Japan due to COVID, but it's indeed a joy to refresh our memories through your video!
Have you ever considered doing a video on Dr Yellow, the maintenance train? One of my goals is to try to see Dr Yellow in action when I am in Japan next which, with the way things are going, will probably not be until late 2022 (if we are lucky).
As the train passes through the cities at night I see all the windows lit up and I wonder: Are those homes or workplaces? Apartments or businesses? What are the people doing behind those lights? Eating, working, watching TV, talking to each other? Are they happy?
I hope one day you'll be able to come to the U.S. and ride the trains here! Maybe wait about 10 years or so, since a lot of services are being built or upgraded now. Next time, could you show us what the reading material is in the seat pocket below the tray table? I assume it's like the airline magazine you would find on a plane, but I'm curious.
Tokaido/Sanyo shinkansens are already fast enough, so I sometimes wonder if the upcoming maglev trains are really necessary. Yeah, from an engineering aspect it's really amazing. But economically, I question its practicality. Btw, speaking of taking trains from other countries, I hope you could occasionally post videos of your train trips abroad.
If you buy a polarized fílter for your camera lense you can take out the reflections on the windows! I’m sure in night trips like these it would come very handy to get amazing shots from the outside! Keep it up! Just came upon your videos, and I’m devouring them like you did with that pork! Arigato Kuga sensei!

I think they just recently restarted that trip. I did it as a kid, and never forgot it. It's about 4 days. You can have a room or a chair.
Unless I wake up in the morning, I don't like to travel when it is dark. Many years ago, travelling by train in Europe was fun, even at night. Trains were slower, permitting trips that lasted all night. The 6-person cabins on long trips were mostly empty so that seats opposite each other could be pulled out to make a bed at no extra cost; also, there existed extensive night trains where the price per bed was less than hotel costs. When travelling via the Eurail ticket, nothing beat this way of travelling. Nowadays, the fun has gone out of train travel. It's all about getting there quickly and not about enjoying the journey.
