O Siva, who adorns the crescent moon! O Sankara, the consort of Parvati! I pray to you! To the one who holds the deer and bow in His hands, Ganga on His head and drapes the elephant skin, I pray.
You are the one who majestically rides on the Nandi and rules the three worlds. With the rage from your third eye, Manmatha was burnt to ashes. You are the Supreme Lord of compassion who consumed the poison to save the world.
You are the one who saved the young Markandeya from the pangs of death. O Nilakanta, who holds the poison in the neck, you are the one who contains the whole universe and you are the one who appears with a Kapala (vessel of skeletal head) to seek alms.
You reside in Kumbhapuri situated in the banks of river Kaveri. You are the one who plays the Veena (lute) and adorns the slithering snake. Smearing ashes on your neck and wearing the chain of Rudraksha beads, you are the supreme among Vaishnavas (devotees of Lord Maha Vishnu). O Lord, you are the very life of Purandaradasa who reverently submits to you.

Since mid 1-millennium CE based on temple sculptures... A 2nd century CE literature book called silapathigaram has stated about it.
@@aliendude4064 I think that the Indic civilization is the only ancient living culture that survives in the present era. China is old, but has lost its traditions under Marxism. I think this form of temple dance, telling the story of the deities, is at least 3-4,000 years old. Many of the modern musical instruments derive from the ancient Indic orchestras.

@@aliendude4064 Natya Sastra (Treatise on Dance, roughly translated, by Sage Bharata Muni) which collected and codifed the foundations of dance & accompanying music system is estimated to be between 500 BCE to 500 CE. However, the actual performances existed lot longer in unbroken oral tradition transmitted across generations via the ancient Indian Gurukul system (where disciples live with their teacher to learn and practice). I wish I knew what the story of this breathtaking dance is. Watching a performance like this is like curling up in the soil of the country the dance came from. This and other ethnic dances like it have such a profound effect, that it's impossible to understand what divides us.

As a Bharatanatyam dancer, I can tell you this: practice and memorize until your foot falls off.

Years and years of practice. In the ancient times, girls were given away to temples this at a very young age (below 5 yo) to pursue this traditional art full-time, they learnt and practiced this art under the tutelage of a Guru. Even now a performance like this can only come from atleast half a decade of practice for an average person.
These three are amazing 😍 it is like three roses dancing , costume is bright looks like angels , their dancing and their moves are according to talam that is to mridangam , very light, graceful, and very expressive 🔥

I am happy to see the faces of the musicians who add an extra dimension to these beautiful dances.
We do know and get to see Dr. Sheela Unnikrishnan very often. Sri Srikanth Gopalakrishnan successfully brings out the right mood and the right emotion through his voice. A brainwave came to me when I was watching Nandhi playing mridangam. I am sure Dr. Guru Bharadwaaj is an amsam of Lord Siva's Nandhi. With this kind of mridangam even I feel like dancing once again. I got to see the sweet face of the sweet Veena player Kumari Anjani Srinivas, who sets the right mood for each of the ragas, in this rAgamAlika.
I do not know Kannada but I can understand the meaning of the song word by word. Thanks to the vivid choreography by Sheela Mam and the sterling performance by The Beloved Trio! Be Blessed!

Remember though all the other dancers are just as beautiful:) Everyone is different, and lovely in their own way. I'd say it's hard to compare when everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

This form of dance should be promoted in the west and would be well appreciated. It is so awesome, captivating and divine with live melodious and soothing music to the ears. An above class choreographer for bringing the better and best performances each time when promoting these young girls, not forgetting our rich culture.

I had to keep pressing the 10sec rewind arrow because there were just so much going on! Beautiful shapes, expressions, rhythms and story telling. A wonderful display of skill and artistic interpretation. I'll be coming back to this regularly.
When you think it can't get any better, comes a performance that tops all previous. The Mridangam thani Avarthanam and the choreography depicting Nataraja's Ananda thAndavam and Natarja leelAs is superb. Shri. Srikanth transports us to KailAsa. The flawless execution by the Trio completes the heavenly experience. Now we are going to look for not just HJ-BV duos but HJ-BV-KG trios!

As usual, SDN has presented a Classic Dance Performance by its Core Team of Dancers. I should first congratulate and deeply appreciate the Singer of the song and the musicians playing with him. A wonderful rendition of the Purandaradasaru Song by the singer and good music by his accompanying artists. Coming to the dance part of it, it is again one of the masterpieces of SDN. So neat and clean in every respect. My special and very heartfelt appreciation to Ms.Bhairavi Venkatesan, who performs with ease and elegance as always she does. May be she is the senior of the three, I do not know. But her facial expressions and hcommunication through her eyes are things for the other dance students to learn from Ms.Bhairavi. My blessings specially to her for a special reason. Good work by SDN, as usual and I only pray that their reputation goes up and up in the years to come.

So many layers to this recital that it takes multiple viewings to appreciate. Vainika Kum. Anjani beautifully introduces the next rAga when the Shri. Srikanth pauses between rAgas in the rAgamAlika. When anupallavi "nandi vAhana" starts, mridangam vidwan Shri. Guru Bharadwaj and the dancers do a phenomenal job. I am sure Nataraja would dance to this rendition! 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
