STRĪPREKSHA/ A DANCE AT THE THIRUVALATHUR RANDUMURTHY TEMPLE, PALAKKAD, KERALA

The 'term' Strīpreksha draws inspiration from 'Stree Preksha', an ancient form of dramatic art performed exclusively by women mentioned as early as the 4th century B.C. The term is also attributed to the woman's inner journey without abhorrence or attachment. This specific work emerged during the Covid pandemic, as a part of my exploration of alternative spaces and inclusion, the temple being one among others.
Strīpreksha reveres the two principal deities of the Randumoorthy Temple. The dancer initiates with a benediction to Annapoorneswari and then transitions to Bhadrakali, briefly enacting tale of Mahishasuramardini. I extend my sincere gratitude to the Thiruvalathur Randumoorthy Kshetram for granting me access to this sacred space, going beyond the gendered and caste materiality that typically governs such spaces.

Blissfully divine and so genuinely honest in its portrayal Devika Chechi. It must have been such an exhilarating and a challenging process from inception to conclusion. When every fibre of your being is dedicated towards discovering art in its purest form, there is such joy for the rasikas to be able to watch, imbibe and let it enter our souls, finding meaning in the dustiest corners of our intellect and shedding light upon our own thoughts. This is so enriching, emotional and spiritual at the same time. There is so much to imbibe from, that watching it multiple times gives you so much more intake on the creator's perspectives. This is brilliant and artistry for posterity! ❤My apologies for having seen this so late.

Beautiful performance ma'am . Started with Annapoorna stuthi and ended with Bhadrakali slaying mahishasura. Shows the duality of feminine nature . She is Annapoorna, who provides nourishment but when challenged becomes Bhadrakali to protect her devotees . Really it seemed as if the Devi was going on battle with the Demon . Blessed day for me today. I came across this video and watched it for the first time. Though I am not a dancer or artist , but I always felt the divinity in all forms of Bharathiya Dance, art. Our country is unique in every sense, whatever we did even as past times it all dedicated to God's and Godesses in our Culture and that is very evident from this beautiful narration of our Puranic episodes depicted through this dance form. I am all awe the way I forgot everything around me as well in front of me only was able to focus on the Dancer and Her Bhave and Goddess in that. That's the blessing of Ma Saraswathi and Ma Durga to ascend on the dancer and bring that energy out so we all can experience it. Here Chechi was the Medium Ma Durga choose to reach out to all of us. I feel so energized after watching. Never been to Palakkad, after watching this beautiful video, I would love to visit this temple. Please share any inputs. Dhanyawad. Namaskaram to all the artists, especially the sound and light technicians for their unintruding presentation.

It's a wonderful rendition of Devi, beginning with Her benine nurturing form ,as described in the Annapurna stotr, then Her various Ugra forms like Bhadrakali n others... ending with 2nd and 3rd chapters of Durga saptshati🚩🚩it's so beautifully directed, the devi is seated in the sanctum sanctorum, beautiful natural light of lamp made hazy with dhup in the background create a halo round Her!
