Yeah yikes. Quite ironic that the news broke right after I uploaded this video. Harvard wasn't among the schools listed and a very small number of students do get in through family connections and having their parents make large donations, etc, but I've never heard of coaches or admissions officers accepting bribes. That's on a whole other level, and as far as I know that hasn't happened here at Harvard but I'm sure it could happen. It's just heartbreaking because it's taking away spots from truly deserving, hardworking students :( I know if someone who bribed their way in had been accepted over me I would have been furious because I worked so, so hard in high school to get to where I am now.
I am thinking of changing my last name to Library, so that if I ever get to Cornell or Harvard, there will already be a building there with my name on it.

Smart people generally earn a good income because companies hire, pay and reward smart people - smart people generally have smart kids [about half of your intelligence is inherited] - so why would anyone be surprised that the smart kids of smart wealthy parents are over-represented at Harvard? Someone that wants to go to Harvard might be able to figure out that bit of sentential logic.

I have had friends that will only swipe right on guys or girls that go to the top 5 schools in Canada and no others lol

I think in most families ivy leagues are status requirement, and those families happen to be wealthy and hence the need to go to ivy leagues. It is also easier for those kids to go to prestigious schools because they are rich enough to not let the opportunity go. Most middle class kids get into ivy leagues but opt out because getting a student loan can be really burdensome. The rich kids have a better chance because their profiles are better - they can spend more on their hobbies, better schools, better chances of getting referred!

My brother's GI bill helped him pay for Cornell (he was a Marine). My family isn't rich. He told me about the Canadian Goose jacket thing and told me a lot of people wear Vineyard Vines too. My brother did poorly in high school, but he did a lot of leadership activities during and after the military. And he got good grades in the first college he went to after the Marines (he went to a significantly less competitive local college before he transferred to Cornell). His perseverance, discipline, and leadership activities helped him a lot.

I went to a top 50 state school for undergrad and now pursuing my grad at an ivy. I have to say there is a difference in terms of many rich people go to ivies. At least in my 5 years at my undergrad, I have never seen things I would constantly see now: someone(non-Asian) wearing 3-4 Cartier love bracelets on their arm(each about 5000 dollars) or wearing their alexander wang booties or other luxury goods to school. The way she portrays this is because she comes from the higher income bracket who lives in this bubble and has not experienced a different lifestyle. And I am not trying to diss anyone here, I very much agree with many messages commented below we need to beware of the privilege and state the truth.

Take the most rigorous classes you can, the uni will know ur high school doesn’t have AP classes. You can also ask ur counselor about taking AP classes at other local high schools. Just make sure to do extra curricular and etc to show your interests and what you like doing. Develop your writing skills and study for SAT/ACT :)

Highly disagree no one should feel entitled no matter how much you feel compelled to. And being in an ivy league college doesn't make you better than enyone. People should be valued by their achievement in accordence to their life circumstances. Like my mother raised me on her own after immigrating from a third world country to give me the best life she could and she succeded i think she is musch more accomolished the most od the student and proffesors in the university that i study law at which is number one in my country. Kinda long, sorry. I literally start ranting about my life. The financial aid thing is so true. My city is extremely cheap, impoverished, the slums I tell you- and Harvard is somehow cheaper than my city college. Harvard, with financial aid, is $15,000 tuition, but the college in my city is $17,000 with aid. If I went to Harvard, I would save $8,000 and be getting a top-notch education. I'm in ninth grade (freshman year of high school) and Covid has been rough. In eighth grade, I did so well in the first two quarters, but it went downhill. Covid's follow-up wasn't exactly great either. My school plummeted and I didn't have a proper math teacher the first semester of my freshman year. The teacher we had was unlicensed and didn't teach. She gave us books and expected us to know the material (that's your job, love) and when we asked for help, she would reread the question and we had to hang our heads down as we walked back to our desks, pretending we understood after she "explained" it. She never moved from her desk, by the way, so she never wrote on the board. I can GUARANTEE at least half my school (6-12) failed their biology state tests. It is so unfair how my school has failed me and it terrifies me. My entire life I have dreamt (literally dreaming, not just a goal) of being in the Ivy League, specifically Harvard. I have worked my ass off for over ten years, and counting, and if I don't get into a good college, I have failed. I've been a straight-A student my whole life. I have gotten on the honor roll every single quarter of every single school year since kindergarten. I learned the alphabet, how to count to 100, how to count to 15 in Spanish, and how to spell my full name (first, middle, and last) before I even got into kindergarten. I never went to preschool either. I was reading a chapter book with at least 250 pages by second grade. I've never studied for a test (until high school, I study now) yet always got a perfect A+. My two oldest sisters have been Valedictorians- one of them in college to be a nurse. My other sister, who hasn't graduated yet, has a high chance of being valedictorian and got accepted to a college to be a veterinarian. I want to impress my family and get into an Ivy League School. I will work so unbelievably hard, that my hands will bleed. I'm so happy I'm going to a new school next year, maybe I'll have a chance. The school I'm going to is extremely hard to get into (it's like the Harvard of my city lol) and I got in!!! Maybe it's a sign lol. Also, when I was talking about my grades and stuff, it was not meant to sound like bragging or being stuck-up anything. I'm just venting and projecting my want of getting into Harvard in the comments on UA-cam. I just feel like my school failed me by not providing me proper education and now I feel like my future might be jeopardized. I'll come back in a few years to tell ya'll if I got accepted into Harvard lmao. If only.

I think the wealthy and rich assumption was meant as the students are Rich or someone wealth I mean like tuition and yes there’s financial aid but not every single person received crazy financial aid tuition and cost of Harvard is not affordable for everyone

What do you do if your school does not have AP classes? Is there a chance you'll get in? I have another question bc I'm kinda curious. Is there a chance you'll get into Harvard if your school doesn't have a lot of clubs and opportunities, what do you do?

Take the most rigorous classes you can, the uni will know ur high school doesn’t have AP classes. You can also ask ur counselor about taking AP classes at other local high schools.
Just make sure to do extra curricular and etc to show your interests and what you like doing. Develop your writing skills and study for SAT/ACT :)

hey, lets be honest, i really like your channel and your content but, c'mon, you all have to feel a little bit superior than people that doesn't go to IVY league school,i dont mean it in the rude way, but i thinks thats why you started this channel, to show how is it to go to harvad, and peolple wouldn't watch videos of someone that doesnt go to an IVY league school as much as they'd watch of people who does.
its true, you go to one of the best schools in the world, and so, yes, that makes you a little more special, and that okay, you just enbrace it and enojy it because when you least expect it you're done with school and life gets hard, really.
Highly disagree no one should feel entitled no matter how much you feel compelled to. And being in an ivy league college doesn't make you better than enyone. People should be valued by their achievement in accordence to their life circumstances. Like my mother raised me on her own after immigrating from a third world country to give me the best life she could and she succeded i think she is musch more accomolished the most od the student and proffesors in the university that i study law at which is number one in my country. Valuing someone in this way is very narrow minded and shallow and detached from most part of the society.
If you think this, that’s how YOU would act. A college is a college. Yes, congrats that she got into an Ivy but that doesn’t mean she’s bragging about it or feels superior

Kinda long, sorry. I literally start ranting about my life.
The financial aid thing is so true. My city is extremely cheap, impoverished, the slums I tell you- and Harvard is somehow cheaper than my city college. Harvard, with financial aid, is $15,000 tuition, but the college in my city is $17,000 with aid. If I went to Harvard, I would save $8,000 and be getting a top-notch education. I'm in ninth grade (freshman year of high school) and Covid has been rough. In eighth grade, I did so well in the first two quarters, but it went downhill. Covid's follow-up wasn't exactly great either. My school plummeted and I didn't have a proper math teacher the first semester of my freshman year. The teacher we had was unlicensed and didn't teach. She gave us books and expected us to know the material (that's your job, love) and when we asked for help, she would reread the question and we had to hang our heads down as we walked back to our desks, pretending we understood after she "explained" it. She never moved from her desk, by the way, so she never wrote on the board. I can GUARANTEE at least half my school (6-12) failed their biology state tests. It is so unfair how my school has failed me and it terrifies me. My entire life I have dreamt (literally dreaming, not just a goal) of being in the Ivy League, specifically Harvard. I have worked my ass off for over ten years, and counting, and if I don't get into a good college, I have failed. I've been a straight-A student my whole life. I have gotten on the honor roll every single quarter of every single school year since kindergarten. I learned the alphabet, how to count to 100, how to count to 15 in Spanish, and how to spell my full name (first, middle, and last) before I even got into kindergarten. I never went to preschool either. I was reading a chapter book with at least 250 pages by second grade. I've never studied for a test (until high school, I study now) yet always got a perfect A+. My two oldest sisters have been Valedictorians- one of them in college to be a nurse. My other sister, who hasn't graduated yet, has a high chance of being valedictorian and got accepted to a college to be a veterinarian. I want to impress my family and get into an Ivy League School. I will work so unbelievably hard, that my hands will bleed. I'm so happy I'm going to a new school next year, maybe I'll have a chance. The school I'm going to is extremely hard to get into (it's like the Harvard of my city lol) and I got in!!! Maybe it's a sign lol.
Also, when I was talking about my grades and stuff, it was not meant to sound like bragging or being stuck-up anything. I'm just venting and projecting my want of getting into Harvard in the comments on UA-cam. I just feel like my school failed me by not providing me proper education and now I feel like my future might be jeopardized. I'll come back in a few years to tell ya'll if I got accepted into Harvard lmao. If only.

I know it’s sort of personal I guess but what was your gpa. My highschool is unweighted so the highest you can get is a 4.0. I have a 3.9 so I would consider that good. And what a good sat score ?
