The way this is set up, he is already breathing in tons of dangerous gasses and chemicals. Closing a door would make it far worse. This is ok in a dire emergency, but very dangerous for any longer period of time.
Without the door. It'd fill with smoke, & smother out both the occupants and the shelter it's self. They need to introduce a flow of fresh air before closing that opening up.

The pine straw is damp. As the snow melts, and seeps in, it will stay damp. It wouldn't be a problem. Maybe in summer when everything is dry, but you won't need it then.

Myself and three friends built something like that when we were 12 years old. Took us about a week to built. Camped in it all the time in all seasons for several years until someone bought the land it was on and tore it down.
He was out there on his own free will. It kills me that the headline makes it seem like he was out for a walk in the park and out of nowhere the woods and snowstorm hit him.
Genuinly impressed by building technique. All those survival videos a kind of escape from modern life responsibilities. Nothing wrong with that, it reassures the neanderthal in us we can still manly overcome elementary needs like cold, shelter, hunger. Nice feminine touch, with the lovely survivalist kitchen frasks.
Listen to all of the keyboard warriors and couch experts, always out to be critical of someone having a go! I loved your video, very inspiring, thank you.
1000 ways to build a shelter... But I love this video! Curious if it lasts after multiple rains? Let me know if I'm lucky enough to get a reply cause this build looks very well insulated and cozy! Two thumbs up from this guy! Awesome video my man! 👍👍 Liked and followed 🤗
I find it funny that almost every bushcraft video says "caught in a snowstorm or rainstorm". No you were not caught, but it was planned as part of the video. Still a good video and shelter.
What would you base your opinion on? Life expectancy rose with central heating not wood or coal. Along with sewer and water. It’s fun to do this. But everyday. Not so much.

ROFL. So what jeans or different pants, door or no door, caught in the storm or not, waiting to go up in flames or not, steak over cooked. Whatever, it looked like so much fun. I’m vegetarian and would have eaten pine needles before the steak. It looked like industrious fun. Admit it you guys are peanut butter and jelly! ❤❤❤❤
OK, we would expect the ax and big knife, and even the flint to start a fire, but then he pulled out a nice tea kettle, a cup, and…something to brew (tea? Coffee?), then a kettle full of meat, spices, and a lid? Should have gone out and snared a squirrel or bird, or rabbit? Ziplocks allowed in the bush? Fun to watch the shelter and fire pit go up though👍👏
Have two bow saws...one small like the one you have... and a second long bow saw for cutting the tree trunk into suitable sized logs... stand the long bow saw on end on the ground with one foot keeping it in place and your knees gripping the bow , so that you have the blade facing away from you... grab the trunk so you have the middle of the trunk and do the push-pull up and down the blade....very fast and efficient way to make firewood out of skinny tree trunks ....
I always check out the hands when I consider if the video is legit. Watched one yesterday…the guy built a shelter and he made a chimney that he lined with mud. Later he cooked a meal. His hands were so clean (no running water) he could have operated on somebody. This guys hands, while not dirty, were not spotless either. Some dirt under the nails tells me he really built this. Looked very real and something that would keep him alive.
Is that a Canadian surplus extreme cold weather sleeping bag? I have a US surplus bag that looks just like it, except mine has a smaller footbox. Great bag!

I know some guys that go into East Ky especially, in worst weather. They only travel as Boone (pre) ,and long hunters and others would have in Forrest and areas with no road, before any habitation by many people. There are no more than 10. They can only carry what they would of had in early/ mid plus 1700’s. They do not scout ahead of time. They will look at a map occasionally- and they rely on survival skills for about three days, sometimes two. Those guys (some in their 70’s) make their own Ky Rifles and most of their gear. They must wear buck skins and period clothes but good shoes are allowed, some prefer moccasins. Now those guys are wild men. At 20 below they had worked most of day hollowing out upturned logs found from tornado or wind strike, rock ledges, and had, to remember Boone, Harrod, Kenton, the Harmon Brothers, and many others….. re- enact these ball buster noman land walkabouts- and yes they hunt their food and know how to eat plants… but as you know, prolonged time in the woods, even with game, can result in one starving over any length of time. These guys will tell you, without domesticated cattle or fat resource, living off land is very to near impossible for any number of people beyond each man who is actually hunting or with a specific contribution to survival. Man, the first pioneers who brought their families, no cattle at first, were bravest men women and children ever to enter Ky. Even with awesome game reserves to hunt at first, the diaries of Dan Boone at Ft. Boons borough tell the tale of the game being hunted out and migrating out…. it’s very very hard to survive off the land-. CUDOS to you for showing your skill, maybe teaching others. I fear one day we may face these days again. Hope not but thanks to the early pioneers that voluntarily did so. 🗽👍
A nice tee pee. But. Potentially dangerous. Because there’s sparks on the inside from the fire get on that thistles that cover the ground. It’ll catch on fire very easily.
I'm assuming that you don't have to worry about bears, wolves, or some such critter. I like your cooking rock but the yummy smells coming off of it would attract critters. At least in the U.S. it would. Of course some of the critters would look almost human. Those are the most dangerous.

This shelter is beautiful along with the snow and I love the fire pit stone stove. This video was very relaxing 😌
Myself and three friends built something like that when we were 12 years old. Took us about a week to built. Camped in it all the time in all seasons for several years until someone bought the land it was on and tore it down.
Instant coffee with a dash of Bolivian marching powder, just what one needs in the woods to keep going.
The feeling between the warm cold and having barbecue is amazing
So many experts sitting in their climate controlled home , on a comfy couch , eating foods from an electric or gas appliance critical of the video.
And just where do you think this guy goes to download all this video and use his PC and video editing software to make this video ? ? ?

When you have a fire inside like that you have to have a lot of airflow so you don't die. Believe me it's nice and warm in there
@IronSharpensIron127 Especially when you are using pine for firewood ,the turpines put of alot of black smoke, it's better than no fire at all though
