7:03 a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing. Peta in India made an illogical analogy of a Hindu festival "Raksha Bandhan" with killing of cows. They compared to cloth made festival symbol "Rakhi" which is tied to hand to cow leather which is never used. Somehow, they forgot that Hindus pray to cows and treat them as God.
That ad was totally misunderstood. PETA was asking us to protect cows just like our sisters, as this is what Rakshabandhan stands for. They never ever said that rakhis are made of leather.
@@godknowswho1430 They simply wrote, This Rakshabandhan protect cows and denounce leather. Leather is not in Rakhis but many people do use leather products. Why not use faux leather?

Dude, I'm an Indian Vegan and this video was spot on and to the point. You're a really articulate speaker, and I'm grateful that you chose to go to India and raise awareness. I'm Catholic from Goa (primarily Catholic), and I've had the same irrational arguments and sentiments regarding "Jesus multiplied fish, made animals to be eaten, and ate animals himself...". I use these often: "Do you believe Jesus is the most compassionate being in the universe?" "If that is the case, how can it be that I feel more compassion than God towards the animals? Surely God feels more compassion than I do, or if you're right, you believe in a God who has less compassion and mercy than vegans / vegetarians do." "Why do you fast / abstain from meat for Lent? Does it please God? Why please God for only a month?" "Are you against animal cruelty? Then why are you so determined to find loopholes?" Questions like this invites them to investigate their own contradictions. I try to ask questions and watch them unpack their deeply rooted notions. From my experience Indians have already had the best of Vegan / Vegetarian food, and are no stranger to the delicacies, textures, and flavors; but will still favor meat purely for taste. There's some sort of passive polarization regarding veg, vs non-veg too. Most times even though I manage to tell and show friends and family all the horrors of the industry, it still doesn't register as enough of a reason to give up meat. I can only hope that with social media, as we all have access to the same information, that veganism and it's message becomes more widely recognized. I must say that the ancient Hindi vegetarian lifestyle, was far closer to the Vegan lifestyle. Eggs that were consumed were unfertilized ovaries basically. They weren't selectively bread or artificially modified, and were well cared for. The cows were seen has part of the family, and were shown great love and respect. And the calf would not be deprived of it's milk, but after the calf has fed, the extra is milked, and that is turned to butter, ghee, butter milk and so on. But today with Amul, and factory farming taking over those old respectful practices have become rather extinct.
in abrahamic religions its not allowed to question god but in hinduism its about questioning god..in bhagwad gita arjuna questioned god on every corner and god gave him answers everytime and even helped him to win the mahabharata war ,
@@starscream1457Let me tell you something about our Hindu culture. In the Ancient Era, the population in India was growing rapidly despite the frequent widespread diseases. In order to feed the millions of people our ancestors stopped eating beef and used the milk produced by them to satiate the hunger of the rising population. In this sense, Cows are actually our God. We don't eat beef out of respect to the cows. Same goes for buffaloes. Milk has the same nutritional value of meat.
i appreciate actually many bible stories portray animal suffering as a way to please god , although i ationm not arguing about that i actually have a question i dont understand why christians specially Americans cant think of food without meat i have never seen any church teaching such its just weird
As an Indian vegan my first activism started in Japan. They are very passionate for activism and coming out of their conservative and risk-aversion mindset. They also have an ancient Buddhist vegan diet called "shojin ryori" which has been forgotten by many people and was replaced by beef, pork, coffee drinking habit and other dairy and bakery products when Japan got too much influenced by the west like any other Asian country. One German man also said that he sees more bakeries and sweet stuff in Japan then anywhere else in Europe.

We have cows at home but we don't breed cows the way . We use dairy but don't involve any kind of violence. Once cow gets old it is treated like elder family members who is served food , care etc till death. @a s I've been born in Kolkata and living here since childhood. Surprisingly Kolkata has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Please do something... When you go to any restaurant ask them to offer anything in the vegetarian menu without milk/butter/ghee. They will make the dish and customise it to your liking. As for street foods in kolkata, the options are many - chole kulcha, pao bhaji, samosa, papri chat, bhel puri, phuchka, dosa, uttapam, idli, medu vada, kachori, dhokla, etc, beguni, alu chop, vegetable chop etc. All these are pure veg (most of the time). Ask the shopkeeper for details about the ingredients they have put. If you would want more help with detecting vegan shops near you, kindly install the "abillion veg" App from playstore. There I and several Kolkata vegans post updates on vegan eateries and restaurants or products available in Kolkata (or other cities and states across the world).

Who said cow milk is essential?? It's not essential. You can easily find the nutrients of cow milk in other milks . For example calcium can be easily found in many leafy vegetables. Nowadays even milk isn't healthy . Even milk is processed . Milkmen inject artificial chemicals in cows to increase the production . Cows are sent to slaughter house after they stop giving milk so it is better to drink soy milk , almond milk or cashew milk rather than promoting animal cruelty
Hey , so I get the slaughter house realities and milking process but it's hard to make people understand becoz of religious aspect. And that existed becoz people used to worship cows and their milk was considered as boon but without taking the calves portion of milk... humans dairy needs and cow's heath co existed that time. You might try to explain that calves were getting their due during the times of Lord krishna but now they aren't and those cows were given the finest food and now they survive on drugs and injections .

India has some of the world's oldest and original ethical vegetarians. Ahimasa is deeply embedded in Indian culture. Jains drink Milk, and honey. However in many respect they are stricter than Western vegans as they are careful not accidentally kill even insects. Milk Production in India was not up until recent times the industrial dairy system in the west, with baby calves snatched away and turned into veal, or Dairy cows turned to Ground beef when they can no longer produce (This is forbidden, you are suppossed to either take care of the cow when they have stopped producing or let it roam free, not kill it). Now Meat eating is increasing in India thanks to Western Influence. Instead of emulating the positives of Indian culture Indians think everything Western= Progressive and Positive.

Milk, in ancient India was milked from cow & other animals using a very friendly & respectful method. In ancient India, instead of dogs, cow was every family's pet. So milk production was never a problem which made milk and milk products very common & essential part of diet in ancient India. Just as a mother feeds children her milk, cows feeded the whole society and thats the reason cow was given the stature & respect of a mother in our culture, which foolish Westerners & Islamists joke about. Ancient India was a very honourable, highly civilised, and respectful of each and every being including grass, plants & trees. Thus milk consumption during that age was not torture & not cruel as it was milked with respect & motherly love. But in modern world, milk production has been commercialized and western methods of milk extraction has been mass brainwashed as the correct way and the same ideas has been propagated & taught to modern commercialized India which makes milking a cruel and inhuman business. Thats why what was highly honourable , respectful with motherly love & blessings has become a cruel, torturous curse now.... Drinking milk produced in modern Dairy factory is nothing but promoting rape, cruelty and torture of cows and other beings.
You came to India to teach us that don't eat diary product and meat. Once we may think of eating less meat may be twice in month but suggesting us to not eat diary product 🤣🤣. It's never gonna happen here. And I agree, you can easily be a vegan, vegetarian and non- vegetarian in India.

Targeting only Hindu festivals is pretty Hindu phobic. You want to be vegan, that's fantastic, but it is not an indian concept. Iam not denying the treatment of animals in the milking industries. Hindus, Jain's, Buddhists, Sikhs drink milk, that is why I never considered myself as a complete vegan. I have been called rap*st for consuming milk products. Peta is the mountain of hypocrisy, giving awards to meat eating shilpa shetty and then posting condemning hindu festivals because that disturbs animal for one day. This is funny some people bash Hindus for not accepting people of different diets and people like you bash us for letting Butcher shops open.

But many companies give cows artificial insemination injection to pregnant cow , and give their claves to slaughter houses then after also they cut and kill the cow to meat we are also against this same in hen they do more torture for eggs then cut the hen for meat we some are also against them
do you know what happens in the egg industry . Male chicks are brutally killed inside a crusher because they can't give eggs and female chicks are tortured until they can't give eggs and then sent to slaughter house .
I have a question- If everybody in the world became pure vegan, what is to happen of the animals. What incentives will there be for keeping of cattles, poultry etc ? What alternative livelihood will be provided to the people who make their living out of animal rearing- be it for milk, eggs, meat? It's not 1 or 2 people involved. A huge lot of people ,a variety of sectors, are dependent on animal rearing. What's the alternative occupation they will be provided with?
I have a question what if we keep inventing more and more machine, what will happen with the men who are doing hard work, how you are going to pay them, and remember it's not 1-2, it's on billions(probably), I hope you realise how much dumb was the question 🙄🙄❤️❤️
@@neelparekh1759 There is no movement in the world which supports complete automation of work( unlike veganism), nor is it possible to begin with. Human involvement will always be necessary.Machines usually wear off faster than men.Complex the machines, the costlier their maintenance will be.There will always be fields where human involvement will be imminent. Your question is not analogous to what I asked at all. Try again.
@@neelparekh1759 Also, Answer the question I asked with elaboration instead of rhetorical "how dumb" the question is. What is to become of the millions of sheep, cattles, poultries, fish that humans have bred for commerce and who can't live without human assistance? Who is to take care of them and out of what incentive? Don't tell me, u are going to let them all die? That would be against the principle of veganism (being not cruel). Also, what alternative source of livelihood will you provide the people who sustain on animal rearing? How would you deal with the problem when "men loosing jobs to mAchiNes" also add up in future? :) How are you going to supplement people with the essential amino acids? The 12 essential amino acids that humans need for proper production of proteins are not available in plants but animals. Not to mention, several vital medicines require toxins, enzymes, extracts from animals and can't be synthesised artificially. What is your solution to that? Don't tell me machines from 2077 are going to solve that. My seeking is of now.
@@S.Ghosh_221 let's discuss in same order as you have asked in 2nd comment, ok, First of all now onwards forceful (raping) breeding should be stopped. Now interesting question will be that why would the animals that were bred earlier will not be able to survive similar to other animals 🙄🙄
Well talking about the milk and dairy products, you should visit the villages, where they treat cows like their family member, they collect the milk by their hands(no machines), but after the calf gets older enough to eat the grass..,but yes they do use ox or male cows for the cultivation of the farm field,& they don't feed them at one place all the time, they take their animals (including cows, goats, sheeps) on a walk every single day to make them eat the fields & even if one animal gets far away, they come home on their own.. I'm from Himalayas, but live in city, as a kid when i saw this, i used to get so surprised that how they know where is their home? & When i used to ask people, their answer was always same, "how do you come home on your own after going to market alone? , Animals are more intelligent & have more senses & power than humans".. So one thing i understood is that, The only thing that made humans control every being on this planet is the Cleverness and the technique of manipulation that only Humans know bcz animals (especially herbivores animals) are so innocent, they just live, they don't have Cleverness..

Here in india milk is not collected from a factory or something ... Milkmen are themself the owner of the cows and they take care of them individually , we drink cow's milk after the mother and that's why cow's are god for us and we worship them ...

Nice video. As someone who often dreams of traveling in India,, I watched it with great interest. And you covered lots of aspects of veganism in India and you did it succinctly. In certain ways, you dealt my visions of India a harsh reality check. I can imagine myself wanting to embrace the wonderful cuisine, but not trusting it out of fear of ghee. In restaurants it's probably not so easy to make substitutions, and so they just tell you what you want to hear, "no ghee' and give it to you anyway. Maybe that's cynical, but I'd be constantly uneasy about it. And yeah, I already know about Indian food containing tons of creams and milks in them. And the butcher shops with live animals awaiting slaughter would be too appalling. India.... mmm... maybe not. The people seem lovely though.
Actually, In India every family in villages used to have 2-3 cows, and they were treated like family members. So that time Vegetarian diet was okay, but now due to factory farming of Cows & buffalos. It is not okay. Even now many villages have same concept. They don't forcefully impregnate diary animals. It is for there own consumption.
I don't understand why vegans don't consume dairy products If the cows are being treated bad then try to actually reform the industry But no they have to get rid of milk which is the best source of nutrition This makes no sense

I use these often:
"Do you believe Jesus is the most compassionate being in the universe?" "If that is the case, how can it be that I feel more compassion than God towards the animals? Surely God feels more compassion than I do, or if you're right, you believe in a God who has less compassion and mercy than vegans / vegetarians do."
"Why do you fast / abstain from meat for Lent? Does it please God? Why please God for only a month?"
"Are you against animal cruelty? Then why are you so determined to find loopholes?"
Questions like this invites them to investigate their own contradictions.

We don't eat beef out of respect to the cows. Same goes for buffaloes. Milk has the same nutritional value of meat.

Cow Milk is essential. We don't need chemical based soymilk. Of course the methods to get cowmilk should be improved .
Right....like when dairy became an industry and people saw it in terms of profit, it became violent to cows. But before all the industrialisation every house had a cow who they took very good care of until it's natural death.
How do you think cows get pregnant? They are artificially impregnated or a bull is forced to mate and as soon as the cow stops giving milk it is impregnated again . What do you think milkmen do after cows stop giving milk ? They are either left on roads or they sell them to a slaughter house . So don't act like a frog in the well
Who said cow milk is essential?? It's not essential. You can easily find the nutrients of cow milk in other milks . For example calcium can be easily found in many leafy vegetables.
Nowadays even milk isn't healthy . Even milk is processed . Milkmen inject artificial chemicals in cows to increase the production . Cows are sent to slaughter house after they stop giving milk so it is better to drink soy milk , almond milk or cashew milk rather than promoting animal cruelty
Bt diary industry is cruel, India is the leading exporter of beef because of the diary industry
that save movement tried to screw you, so respect for rising above david
Sorry to tell you that, In idili we use curd which is also made from Milk.
No we don't use curd in idli
Hey , so I get the slaughter house realities and milking process but it's hard to make people understand becoz of religious aspect. And that existed becoz people used to worship cows and their milk was considered as boon but without taking the calves portion of milk... humans dairy needs and cow's heath co existed that time. You might try to explain that calves were getting their due during the times of Lord krishna but now they aren't and those cows were given the finest food and now they survive on drugs and injections .
Interesting point of view thank you
Hey are you kidding in my village we satisfy how much milk we get and we will ALWAYS worship Cows
@@con380 what is done to bulls ...probably sold to the slaughterhouse. There is cruelty involved in Diary Industry as well.

Vegan from kerala, India.
Awesome!
A rare commodity in kerala... Even vegerarians are rare
In goa - india all veg dish arey mostally vegan because we goans use more coconut oil in every single dish .ghee is not used much .
Did you know that 38% of India's population is vegetarian so western countries(where majority had beef or pork as dinner) should be the last one to propagate about animal rights for India
But we should be ashamed that our country isn't even 50% vegetarian. I am a Rajput and I recently turned vegetarian.
Well costal areas will always eat fish most non veg only eat few days a week

38% because of pro-west psedo literates, Indians from south, Vegetarian is predominant in west and north india
Being vegetarian doesn't mean you're pro animal rights. You're still putting them through a lot of torture.

This is funny some people bash Hindus for not accepting people of different diets and people like you bash us for letting Butcher shops open.
agreed ,these vegan crapbags just want to spread their propogabda against hinduism but wont say a single word on how many animals are slaughtered on musslim festivals like bakrii eid which is all abt killingg goat rutthessly and eating it

U should know that not all ghee is milk based.... In India many vegan households and restaurants use a ghee called vanaspati ghee (or dalda).... Vanaspati ghee is not milk based it is made from hydrogenated vegetable oils like palm oil and groundnut oil.
So we should eat dalda instead of ghee and it is supposed to be good for health 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Try south Indian cuisine ..it has a lot less dairy and a lot more coconut. It is true that the average restaurant owner won't understand the difference between vegan and vegetarianism.
Try this preaching in a muslim locality of India next time. But you would not dare to , as most that did , never returned with their head on their body.
South India has a great vegan food. We make loads of sweets with coconut milk. N you can usually tell people to not put ghee. They might just assume u have a risk for heart disease 😂😂😂 n here we don’t put cream to curries but we do put coconut milk to thicken it. The thing is while South Indians has more meat eaters, most of them refrain from it for 2-3 days a week for religious reasons and hence meat-eaters also cook delicious vegetarian food.

@Josua in India milk and eggs are vegan many of we people don't kill or harm cows for milk and they are like a mother for us, we just consume the extra after the claves ( baby cow ) sufficiently drink , and their is a type of non- fertilized eggs means , a baby chicken can't be born form this egg , so in India its allowed .

I have a question what if we keep inventing more and more machine, what will happen with the men who are doing hard work, how you are going to pay them, and remember it's not 1-2, it's on billions(probably),
I hope you realise how much dumb was the question 🙄🙄❤️❤️
How are you going to supplement people with the essential amino acids? The 12 essential amino acids that humans need for proper production of proteins are not available in plants but animals.
Not to mention, several vital medicines require toxins, enzymes, extracts from animals and can't be synthesised artificially. What is your solution to that? Don't tell me machines from 2077 are going to solve that. My seeking is of now.
@@S.Ghosh_221 let's discuss in same order as you have asked in 2nd comment, ok,
First of all now onwards forceful (raping) breeding should be stopped.

Then they sell them to slaughter.

India is food capital of the world
India.... mmm... maybe not. The people seem lovely though.
trust me, it is still the most convenient place to be a vegan...
vegetarianism is best way of life
India by natural is plant based in most of the restaurants with minimum animal product dairy.
I AM PROUD TO BE HINDU
Actually, In India every family in villages used to have 2-3 cows, and they were treated like family members. So that time Vegetarian diet was okay, but now due to factory farming of Cows & buffalos. It is not okay. Even now many villages have same concept. They don't forcefully impregnate diary animals. It is for there own consumption.
There are so many farmers who artificially make cows pregnant forcefully and sell old cows and male calves. It's business and the goal is profit
I don't understand why vegans don't consume dairy products
If the cows are being treated bad then try to actually reform the industry
But no they have to get rid of milk which is the best source of nutrition
This makes no sense
