There are two godly cuisines in the world in my opinion Indian and Italian. The real Indian and italian. The more complex Indian food is the simpler is Italian food. Both the best examples of their kind.

Anderson Cooper is annoying. A mind so closed to other cultures. His career consisted of going to other countries, then reporting from their glitzy hotels. This hesitation with other peoples' foods is a symptom of being isolated from other people. Plenty of local New Yorkers go to Indian restaurants without such fear of spice.
whatever04 where do you live? I live in California and I have never experienced what you mentioned. I have only heard good things from my friends such as how vegan friendly Indian food is and how they love naan and chicken tika.
Honestly Indian food especially Punjabi food isn't even that spicy. Yes you can add more spice according to your taste but normally it's very tolerable. I feel like it's very overly exaggerated. And the stall food isn't honestly one of the best food, but yeah bring your own bottle or brink bottled water only.
+ravi8490 There is a saying as metal cuts metal. The hotter the place the spicer the food gets. However it is also based on personal preference scoville scale come the play then. Bhut Jolokia is the hottest pepper in India that is a hybrid variety grown in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. Not really sure how many people in the world would prefer having that in their meals.
"I've done some good in the world" he says jokingly. Yeah, I can say you have. You've influenced and motivated a lot of people to see food for more than just something you shove into your face, but to see it as a sensory experience. Rest in peace you magnificent bastard.
I just love the flavors of indian food like curry and the spices. As long as the food is prepared and cooked adequately it’s safe. There is more danger in eating raw foods
ok you westerners, here me out cuz i have a revelation for you. you need to know once and for all that, the first few times we south asians try your food it makes us crap too much too, it's just what you call "the body getting adjusted to the new diet in its system" whether the food is healthy or not. get it?!! cuz you have suddenly consumed something out the routine in terms of your regular diet for your body. so it's just what the human body does. secondly,...jeeezz indian food is relatively healthier!!! yess!! daaayyymmm! just like any other ethnic cuisine is. When it's comes to nutrition let me open your eyes that most indian food veg or non-veg is primarily organic veggies/poultry that we shop locally, less processed in relatively cheaper, and traditionally healthy ways(depending on how good of a host you have) and is surely nutritious & healthy enough or should I rather say certainly better in some cases than the highly-processed-additive containing-nutritionless synthetic western food, packaged, shelved, for god knows how long with preservatives, food that most probably has mold and yeast from poorly managed food processing units, long preserved packaged meats with tape worms and shit. :| Thirdly, when it comes to matter of "eating with hands", even the wealthiest of wealthy people in india have to eat certain food with hands, cuz that's just the proper etiquette and tradition, done hygienically by washing hands with soap before and after the meal(part of our dining routine in an indian setting), and whether it's a restaurant or at a friend/host's house our dining areas are equipped with a sink and some form of soap. So the next time when the subject of Indian food and health comes up in your conversations remember this comment. ok?!! :) thanks and come again! bye bye! :)
I have no problem eating street food because for the most part you can see thr food being prepared and cooked right in front of you. You don't get that at most restaurants.

I’ve been to India once and Pakistan a handful of times. I remanence about the food from both countries all the time. Food is the soul of South Asia, it’s the mark of true love. It’s what unites friends and families together.
Americans are the few people I know that see food as just “fuel”. Yes it’s fuel but it’s also a big central part of families, it’s a process, a ritual sometimes, a moment of gathering and socializing, a sense of pride for many. To see it as just “fuel”, is kinda sad.
The key is to know what to avoid in India. Let me lay down a few thumb rules: 1) For small meals, avoid anything that costs less than 50 Rupees. 2)For main meals, like lunch and dinner, avoid anything that costs less than 140 Rupees per person. 3) Eat in proper restaurants. Do not eat street food. Eat the same items that street food sellers sell at covered restaurants. 4)Drink only bottled water. 4 good brands are Bisleri, Kinley, Aquafina and IRCTC. Make sure the seal of the bottle isn't broken when you are buying the bottle. 5) Eat in moderate quantities. Indian food is delicious, but you gotta control yourself, as it can be very heavy. 6)Eat only one heavy meal a day. A light meal can consist of curd(yoghurt) rice, vegetable salad, rice and lentils(daal) and boiled eggs. 7) Buy and eat lots of fresh fruits. Don't buy cut fruits, as they may be unhygienic. Buy them whole and cut it yourself at the hotel. 8) Drink 7-8 litres of water every day. If you get gas or acidity, then buy 'ENO' from any medical store and drink it. You'll be fine in a few minutes. Follow these thumb rules, and you'll be fine in India. Cheers!
The best food I have had, in my entire life time, has been in India!! No doubts! Quality and taste has been superb, both at the small local restaurant and at the fancy hotels. Actually, when I got back to Denmark, it got a classical danish hotdog in the airport, just to try that abrupt shift from what I had last two weeks, and you know what, the hotdog made my sick! I will chose indian any time!
well part of that has to do with how badly media portrays us largely speaking and the awkward inferiority complex for many as a result, causing them to crave for western media acknowledgement
It's not that they're afraid of Indian food. They're afraid of the lack of food safety standards that food stalls in India has. This is in comparison to a hotel where you would expect that they don't want their guests to get sick and would have higher food safety standards.
I am an Indian. I have eaten food from many other countries as well. I can proudly say that Indian vegetarian food is the best and the most scientific. It has a very long range of species that protect u from many dangerous diseases that the world is suffering from today.
I've eaten street food all over the world and have been sick maybe twice, and all it was was a little extra time in the toilet. If you're going to travel, stock up on probiotics to get your tummy ready, and then go and enjoy the local culture!!
In Indian food, spices are the reason which makes the consumer's immune system better. In Ayurveda, each Indian spice is mentioned to used to cure multiple diseases. When right proportions of spices are added to food, it becomes an everyday natural health supplement.
Indian food is designed with the human mechanism in mind.. which is why many meals such as the thali are a complete balanced diet of vegetables, lentils, rice, curd, salad, sweet etc. So its not just about the taste, but how your body will process it and when eaten in moderation will help you maintain good health.
I think Bourdain is being a bit too generous here. As someone who grew up here and visited India regularly, you absolutely can get sick eating Indian street food. It won't kill you, but its an extremely unpleasant experience. Tyler Cowen, notable foodie, suggests to avoid places where you don't know where the water source is coming from. Indians living there have a built up immunity, but westerners do not. That said, when you go to reputable places, the food is amazing. And the meat and fish dishes are superlative.

The same people who show hyper-consciousness when eating Indian food, later go n eat burgers, fries, donuts, frappuccinos, sodas n what not. Cholesterol from such fast food is OK but a lit bit of spice & flavor is a problem. Indian cuisine is one of the rare cuisines that dates back to 1000s of years . It has a zillion varieties in both veg n non-veg and provides a balanced diet. I am not referring to those junk lunch buffets in Indian restaurants:)
He insisted his entire crew eat nothing but spaghetti Bolognese? How much of a control freak do you have to be as a boss to dictate what all your employees will eat. And you have it be the same meal 3 times a day every day? Anderson, Anderson, Anderson, lighten up my friend. Let your employees get a little variety at the buffet.
Im punjabi, born and raised in Canada. Each time i go to india, i get food poisoning. Best to only eat food you prepare yourself or plan out which spots you will be eating at via online reviews. Make sure it looks hygienic.
I live this man. I have been to India and I agree the street food is great. One stall I returned 4 times to is one where all the man made and served were fried onions. They were thinly sliced red onions dusted with chickpea flour and deep fried. Then the were presented in a hand rolled paper cone. They were served a great sauce. I couldn't get enough.
Anthony Bourdain exposed the culinary elitism that the west held for a long time and still continue to hold to this day. Italian/French/Spanish - classy, hygienic, sophisticated. Indian/Chinese/Thai - unhygienic, cheap. A true culinary legend and a real explorer. A man who truly didn’t have any reservations.

Indian cuisine is a cornucopia of tastes, colours and varieties. Thank you Anthony Bourdain for saying nice things about our food and thank you for visiting us. You will be missed.
Best indian food is home made. Its cleaner and has less oil.
I'm Indian, and I came back to watch this video after hearing about his passing. Anthony Bourdain was a gift to the culinary world, right from his line cook days to his travel shows. His attitude, best summed up by his quote 'İ'm not afraid to look like an idiot' is exactly why he is so universally loved and the precise reason why he seems so real despite living a life that few of us would ever live. I miss you, Anthony. You taught me to enjoy good food and drink and most importantly to enjoy it with good people. Wherever you are, I hope you are at peace and that they don't serve a breakfast buffet.
The general rule of the thumb is that eat anything from street side which is properly heated prior to serving (High temperatures kill the germs, if any). Most Indian cuisine is served hot anyway. Avoid unfiltered water, other cold drinks, salads, yogurt, or pretty much anything which is not cooked & heated, when eating from Indian streets.
There are two godly cuisines in the world in my opinion Indian and Italian. The real Indian and italian. The more complex Indian food is the simpler is Italian food. Both the best examples of their kind.
I love Indian food, can't go a week without eating it, I'm not a fan of vegetarian food either, but India having a large Hindu population has many great examples, as does Ethiopian cuisine.

+ravi8490 Chicken 65 invented in chennai. Yeah.
As an Indian when I travelled through southern California only time I got sick because of the food was the Hotel Breakfast buffet .
You will forever be missed legend ,rest in paradise !
ok you westerners, here me out cuz i have a revelation for you. you need to know once and for all that, the first few times we south asians try your food it makes us crap too much too, it's just what you call "the body getting adjusted to the new diet in its system" whether the food is healthy or not. get it?!! cuz you have suddenly consumed something out the routine in terms of your regular diet for your body. so it's just what the human body does. secondly,...jeeezz indian food is relatively healthier!!! yess!! daaayyymmm! just like any other ethnic cuisine is. So the next time when the subject of Indian food and health comes up in your conversations remember this comment. ok?!! :) thanks and come again! bye bye! :)
Anthony Bourdain, I will forever miss your show. Rest in Peace.
Damn after this Lockdown, I'm going on a Indian-Food-Eating Spree.

The key is to know what to avoid in India. Let me lay down a few thumb rules:
1) For small meals, avoid anything that costs less than 50 Rupees.
Cheers!
7-8 litres??

It's not that they're afraid of Indian food. They're afraid of the lack of food safety standards that food stalls in India has. This is in comparison to a hotel where you would expect that they don't want their guests to get sick and would have higher food safety standards.
