As an Architect, this is so cool to see a builder go over the drawings and hear what is important to you.
Thanks for distinguishing the Architect's role versus the Engineer's. We try our best to make sexy drawings.

Mr. Matt you look about 12 years young, however you sound like someone with all the wisdom of 1000 years old… thank you for all of your knowledge, wisdom and ability to deliver to all us strangers here in your UA-cam class!!! Thanks again.

Crazy to think that after 10 years of being in the field, I’ll be trying out a management position. It’s very comforting to know that I have your channel to keep me updated on common issues. I don’t know what to think about what to expect. But man am I glad I grew up framing houses in the summer at 14 years old instead of other extra curriculars😁

These videos are for those of you wanting to become better at your craft, understand plans better and grow as a carpenter / tradesman. I've got a few more on the way that'll help break down the bidding process and more..
If you're new to reading plans, this video is for you.. We're starting with the basics.
If you want to use the program I'm using in the video, check out ConX today: bit.ly/3j2kerk

Matt thank you brother! This video is massively helpful. I'm in the middle of a whole house remodel and I did all my take offs manually with a spreadsheet and home depot links. This is great content! 💪

Thanks for your explanations Matt. I framed houses for a few summers, then remodeled houses for a few years back in the day. Now we're working on building our own home from the ground up out here in Colorado. I happened upon your videos. Glad I did, very informative. Thanks again for all of the info you put out. All the best to you and yours!

Matt really cool stuff , one thing to mention is how the architect will pull dimensions, in our office we do face of stud to face of stud and I know I other office they do face of finish to face of finish. Usually one of the dimensions strings will be loose to account for fraction add-ups, toward a non critical space !

AWESOME VIDEO. I'm going to share it with my boss. He has "40 years" of experience yet he's always calling me to ask stupid questions, like what kind of holdowns are we using, what's the nail spacing for the roof sheathing, and on and on it goes. Again, great job!

Hey! I am an architect in training and am wanting to get better at my construction documents. Generally my firm dimensions from edge to edge of windows instead of to the centerline. We also tag windows with height width and head height. If a plan set came by your desk like that what would your thoughts be? This video is insanely helpful as someone who draws plans, it's nice to see what contractors and build crews need and why. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the video it was extremely informative. Would the architect work with a structural engineer or would we need to hire both? I'm planning to build my own 448 sq ft home addition but I would need the engineers design and callouts for materials etc. I'm pretty handy and can follow a good set of instructions.

These days it's next to impossible to translate an A or B algorithm to make an A vs B decision to the average homo sapien so getting most to read framing notes outside of FB or a texted emoji has got to come close to 2 or 3 roofing nails to the finger level frustration.
