Can we educate the public and abolish the use of "Blue Prints". Architecturally, the printing of architectural drawings on light sensitive paper hasn't been used since the 80's. "Construction Documents" (CDs) is the official term as it holds legally binding responsibility of the party issuing them.
Matt , your a better teacher than any professor I had in college. The key to communication is brevity. Your brief and concise explanations are awesome!
Hey Brother just wanna say thank you for taking the time to teach people how to read prints. I've been a carpenter almost 15 years and sometimes you really don't get the opportunity to practice reading prints on the job.
I'm glad I have time to learn from UA-cam again, and you're the first person I looked up! I appreciate the knowledge you share and I admire how humble you are. I've been pursuing a career in construction for years, and every employer has failed to give me the opportunities I deserved. I'm transitioning out of the military and found a great company that is teaching me a lot. As I commented on your IG, I feel so behind and unworthy starting as a laborer for the 5th time in my life. I asked my superintendent for advice on moving up fast, and he told me to learn to read plans so here I am! You motivate and inspire me brother. I hope to be in a position with endless knowledge like you are.
I'm a new carpenter in Phx Az, Your videos are awesome. They are informative & interesting. I have literally been studying your videos so please keep making more stuff like this. 🔨💪🏾
I have a job interview for assistant Superintendent for a home building company, i have 16 years of welding/fabricating and i know how to read those blueprints. I am trying to prep for blueprint questions. These are so helpful!!!!!! Thankyou!!!
Thank you very much much bro. Well explained, I am a draftsman and I am still learning about plans details, please continue to make more plan reading videos, God bless
Thanks so much for these very useful videos. As a young architect, these videos have helped me to review what I already learned in the Technical and Construction document class when I was in architecture school. I hope to watch more videos like this. Thanks again!
I find it amazing reviewing plans and knowing which ones were done in autocad opposed to Revit. Autocad just simply looks like lines on a page, wheras Revit has more detail, linewights are more proportionate, detailing is a lot more intense. Just based on the technicians skill level I guess. As a drafter... these plans were definitely done in AutoCAD.
I just took a clase on how too read blue prints online . I was definitely lost . Im a journey man but never really had a chance too learn on how too read plans You made it way more understandable!thanks brotha !!!!!!!! And bang 💥 on !!
Hi Matt. Great tutorial on reading plans. Looks like the swelling is gone from your jaws also. 😀 Can't wait to see the next build. Enjoy the day. Ray L
I'm not a framer but I'm super interested in construction. Thank you very much for making these videos! I'll appreciate if you could also provide links to references where we could learn more details.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on plans. In the future, I think it would help laymen like me if in your next season of videos if you remembered to stop at some point, pull out the plans, and visually point to what your referencing in the plan.
hi Matt. First thanks a lot for all your information. It's very easy to understand also very practical. I have a question, Does the home designer, who is developing a new residential project ( all the design), has to develop the construction plans too? it's that mandatory? it's ok that the home designer just gives me the architectural set of plans? (of course, it includes the plans, facades plans, sections, details, scheduling...etc...) I am really confused...

Hi matt i enjoy ur videos on youtube.in your season 2 video build from the ground up how much did the project cost the homeowner from concrete to final framing i.e roof and sheathing..by the why i live away over in ireland were only in the last 3 years have the architects and builder's now realized that timber framing is a productive way of building🤔..anyways keep on banging.
Thanks Matt. So if I were to order a plan from those online sites like Houseplans.com, would those plans have the same contents as what you're showing us here?
Hey Matt, I Have Been Learning from your tutorial videos BUT this tutorial on reading Plans Left Me Wanted to get more understanding. Wonder if you could sell me a copy of this tutorial Plans . Honestly Bro. I Believe that with a copy of those plans and the video People Can learn Big From You.
I believe that’s the exterior wall material (OSB, plywood) that’s affixed to the studs. You would then put a vapor barrier of some sort (tar paper) on top and then your siding material (lap siding, shingle, stucco).
A shear wall provides lateral stability of the framing members making up the skeleton, such as the 2x4s or 2x6s. The OSB or plywood keeps the wall from collapsing in the same plane as the wall. Another term is "racking."

No, if you’re in California, hire a structural engineer to draw up your stuff.. Trust me, it’s worth it!
How do you figure out wall heights?
Hey Matt, love your videos. You mention the term shear walls in many of your videos. Could you explain what that means a little further?
Thanks

Very helpful video, thanks. I think it would be more clear if you were talking with pdf drawings.
