Ha ha ! As a music composer /arranger, I love the music when you saw the bear! Just for your info. Bears used to be very, very, common in the high country of Yosemite. Then it became mandatory for backpackers to have bear canisters to store food and toiletries. The problem of hungry bears pestering campers went away. Bear incidents/encounters went down from 1500+ a year (or thereabouts) to just a handful. In short, this guy was probably hoping you would leave food out, rather than eat you! ha ha!

No better way to start Sunday, than with a new hannah video😊. I can see why the area has a special place in your heart, absolutely spectacular. Hiking or driving that little bit further always get you to the best spots. 10/10 on the spicy burrito.

If you want to stop being trailed by a bear & you've got spray, simply put down your smelliest snack and spray a circle around the snack without getting any spray onto the snack. The airborne smell will draw the bear to the snack and as soon as he gets near and smells the spray, two things will happen. One, he will probably turn around and most importantly if he doesn't, he won't know where to go because his olfactory bulb is clogged with spray and all he can smell is spray. This will incapacitate his olfactory bulb for several minutes and then he will need to start over with the tracking.
I hear if you put black pepper all around that sweet-smelling snack the bear will pursue then sneeze profusely. The only part of that is it may sneeze it senses out of its nose quite possibly. May be harmful.
Or you could just end up a spicy snack.
@@joemoreland1925 Animals like Dogs & Bears have an olfactory bulb that processes scent and are 100s of thousands of times more sensitive. Than a humans. That sensitivity is also its weakness. You are right when you say pepper will work. You could probably even use lemon juice/vinegar in a pinch. Anything with a capsaicin or a highly acidic PH would obliterate their senses and actually create quite a bit of pain but the one thing they would never do is permanently damage the bulb itself. The bulb isn’t what gets attacked. It’s the ‘brain’ connection that gets attacked. Luckily for all animals, we have a mechanism to reset that connection like rebooting your computer. In short, hours later an animal won’t even remember that it happened.
So calm while being pursued by a hungry bear , how impressive is that . Also agree that climbing into bed with clean , freshly ironed cotton sheets is luxury . Please stay safe .

I'm 60 and I've had dreams about bears chasing me since I was about 5 or so. Nothing gets to me like a bear. Never seen a grown bear in the wild but I'm certain if I do, that dude will know my dreams and try to make them come true. lol Great video as always!

Watching you deciding what trail to take reminded me of those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books I read as a kid.
Eagle Falls trails is great and has fanatic views. Love that whole area. Good reaction to the bear, there all over that area, you handled the situation well and respected the bears boundaries. Those other Jeep roads are closed until the Forest Service opens the gates when road has dried out and snow has melted off. Talked with my Jeeping buddie yesterday, said they were out in the Weber area, lots of water going over the various falls, flowers were awesome in the valley below along the river and the entire terrain was green and lush. Stay safe & well.

Happy Sunday Doc! Great video! The story of Viking home and the teahouse was so interesting. I remember first hearing about it years ago while riding on the Tahoe Queen. Good reaction to the bear, kept your head and respected their boundaries. Those refried beans are the best, I always keep a can handy.

An excellent example of a situation that can get one off trail quickly and lost. Glad it worked out for you. Carry a backpack with essentials. You said you had bear spray so I assume you do carry a bag just not in frame.

That water fall overlooking Emerald Island has memories.
After hiking the same trail you were on with my kids my son walked out on top of the water fall, slipped and went half way over. I dove out and grabbed his leg. We have been there several times since but we all still cringe thinking about it.
He was 7 at the time, now he is a Navy Chief.
Beautiful film. Years ago I helped a retired man build an Ikea filing cabinet that he was struggling with at his newly-built home in Truckee. By way of thanks he drove me out to explore Lake Tahoe. I think his parents had kept a summer house by the lake and much of his childhood had been spent there. One of his early memories was watching a beautiful young woman being escorted from a boat into an exclusive resort nearby. She took his breath away and he later found out who it was: Elizabeth Taylor!
Hannah get MVUM and always know what roads go where in an emergency situation. Paper Motor Vehicle Use Map stashed out of the way could be a game changer. Love your adventures!
