Thanks to you and others who post great videos like these, my home renovation projects are more fun than work. Thanks for making this.
You're welcome. It's refreshing to get thanks every now and then. There'd be lots more videos for you, but UA-cam took much of the financial incentive away from posting them. Currently, the break-even period is about ten years. That's just too long.
Thanks Tim for this great video. I had bathroom wall tile to remove and I was looking to buy a power tool. Instead I bought the putty knife you recommend for about $8 and got through the process a lot easier than I expected. I’m glad I found your post 😀.

I'll be buying one of those tools today to remove my tiles that look to be the same size. Thanks Tim.
Awesome video!
what is the proper name for those putty knives/scraper your using in the video? most putty knives seem to be striaght and not with the angle on them
Well, I've got several. Here are links to them: amzn.to/2iuXzYv and then this one: amzn.to/2iEWFXV
Thank you Tim! I am glad that this post is still up!

The video starts at 3:42
When you reached out to the UA-cam Service Desk, what did they tell you? Most certainly you don't think I'd upload a video and not show you the first 3:41, right?
Not meant to be a glib comment, just a cue point for those who would like to skip the lengthy introduction, branding, health and safety talk, etc
Branding: You get to watch the video for free | Introduction: Context | Health & Safety: You do realize there are people watching this that have never used a hammer near tile that creates conchoidal fracture on the glazed tile, right?
@@askthebuilder - You do realise people can rewind youtube videos, right?
@@TheExpeditionUK Are you kidding me? We don't have that feature here on the US version of UA-cam! Holy tomato you guys get all the cool stuff. I guess you're still pissed about us doing the AmerExit thing 243 years ago. Let it go man! ;-)
That's a great tip, thanks.

A good cold chisel is best.
Tony, I'm not so sure! The angled wide blade here does an amazing job. Have you tried BOTH methods? I have.
What if you want to remove the tiles gently to save them from breaking?
Lisa T Tap lightly
good information. video is 5min long....2:30 before you start talking about how to remove tile
Yes, I do that on purpose. You're very lucky that people like me share our knowledge for free.
Why can't these guys show removing tile where lots of thinset is used? The tiles in this video are barely hanging on for gawd's sake!!!
Well, for starters you need a job where you have these conditions. Second you need to have the motivation to do all the work to produce the video. The process is no different if it's thinset - just lots more work.
inside of my wall starts with metal mesh nailed to studs, on top of that is about 4 inches (yes 4) of plaster, then the thin set for the tiles. I believe the thinset melded into the plaster because you can not get the blade this guy is using under the tiles, well for my bathroom wall I'd say about 85% of the tiles were adhering to the plaster and the rest I could use this technique. A good four pound hammer helped me get through the remodel job.
Does that knife you're using have a name?
Helen, it's just a stiff 3-inch putty knife with a bent blade. They come straight and with a 15-degree bend.
how can I remove an old bathroom mirror with medicine cabinet
Open the door. Look to the left and right of the cabinet. You'll see screws. Remove them.
Come to my place and try to remove the tiles that are stuck to the wall with "real" cement
Easy. I've done it for years. You just may need a bigger hammer and you may have to beat them out. But out/off they will come!
Ask the Builder BFH 🧨🔨⚒💣
@@askthebuilder yep for my bathroom walls 85 % needed a BFH. So much plaster behind the tiles 4inches deep.
I would suggest talking less and doing more in your videos.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment. If I take your advice, I'd upset the subscribers that love my in-depth audio commentary. I discovered many years ago it's impossible to satisfy everyone so I stopped trying.
1000s of dollars of medical bills if I don't wear glasses? Is this a joke I'm too European to understand?
You're too European. Ask any US friend what a trip to the ER costs in 2020. And then follow-up visits to the eye doctor to check on the progress of your scratched cornea.
Means your VAT will go to over 20%..
My son had 5 stitches in the ER... that was $1700.
