    I really love that this video shows a lot of things that can be difficult! I really can’t stand watching tutorials where it all goes smooth. Then you try it and everything in the world goes wrong lol.
    Thank you so much for this!

    what i do is fit a 3/4 plywood tight fit over the tub and demo with no worries. then clean it up, remove the plywood and carefully remove the last two of tiles at the bottom that plywood obstructed.

      That's what I am doing as well... and using oscillating multi-tool to cut around the tile boundary. Will red guard the new wall surface b4 adding surround or re-tiling.

    Buy cheap $1.50 shower curtain from Walmart. I used it to line the tub and then I just bunch it up and throw it away with the tile.

    Amazing explanation and a very patient man. I wonder how do you check if there is any electric wire behind before you use the little saw. Maybe it was explained and I missed it 🤦🏽‍♀️. This video encouraged me enough to go and redo my bathroom…. But can you just throw the debris on regular garbage day? What if i want to get rid of my tub, can I just leave it by the curve 😳

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  2 роки тому +1

      There is no fool proof way of knowing for sure about wires so you have to cut with caution and just deep enough to cut the drywall.
      You could also smash a hole at each stud bay so you can see inside at the height you are cutting. This debris will be too heavy for regular garbage bins. Many cities have companies who will make land fill runs to get rid of people demo garbage for a fee.

    I liked how you showed two different sides and how to take off a whole sheet. So the side you were saving the tub. That might be what I’m doing. Um, so I’m guessing that saves the drywall as well? Now if you save the drywall also would I just use that same way above the tile on the top part of it and just take off the backer board with only the tile where I don’t have to redo the drywall? Or should I take out the backer board and the drywall that’s around above the shower and just gut out that whole area inside the shower only??

    Love your explanations Shannon. They had tiled the entire bathroom up to 4 ft. all the way around the bathroom. So right now I'm assuming to just cut out the drywall is the fastest. easiest AND least messy way to remove the tile.
    So then is there a video about the butt joint that is painted on the old drywall, versus the new drywall. How to make the joint not look like a hump horizontally along the wall? Thanks for the time you put into these videos.

    I wish my bathroom tile was this easy. Mine goes up to ceiling and on the ceiling in the tub area. I doubt the drywall would come off as easy, mine was done by my Italian dad who would have way more screws than that. Good pointers though, I am still debating if I want to tackle this large project.

    Thanks for the video! It's funny as we're about to tear out a shower and I was thinking "there can't be anyway to save the cement board"...and sure enough...nope, just rip it out.
    Grout question: People talk about "Power Grout" brand (?) for water resistance, but other people say you just add an additive to your grout and it does the same thing. Thoughts?
    Tile question: Do you always want to use porcelain tile in a shower, not ceramic, since porcelain is much denser/water resistant? Can you tell by look and feel when you pick up a tile whether it's one or the other?

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  2 роки тому +1

      Ceramic tiles in a shower should be no problem as long as you have a good water proofing to start with which you should anyways. I prefer Mapei Flexcolor CQ grout. it is superior IMO

    Thanks for the videos, very helpful. I installed a steel bathtub and I ran a 2x4 the length of the tub at the underside of the tub lip with a large bead of sealant and set it. They say to put screws at each stud, what is the propose of that, the tub weighs 130lbs. If anything won’t the screws squeak against the top edge when you step into it? Just think it’s overkill. Does anyone think that it’s a must thing to do. Thanks!

When you get to a 30 year old professionally installed tub surround with 4" tiles set in 1-1/2" mud base over metal lathe none of this is going to help. Just grab a sledge hammer and go to town. And it's going to take a few hours.
