You have to believe that Janine's career as a violin soloist really exists only to support her commitment to music like this. I've loved watching her for years and one thing that has always come across in those many performances is her engagement with members of the orchestra. In chamber music that is all that matters. This is exquisite. Janine is a joy!
Had Tchaikovsky lived long enough to attend this rendition, I'm sure he would say..."this is what I meant to speak in this sextet". Thanks Janine and all your friends. You guys are great!!!!!!

*Impressive* indeed, -- even if you don't particularly appreciate Tchaikowsky's music. This team of performers under the supervision of the *marvelous* Mrs. Jansen is really remarkable.
Can we just take a moment to admire how in tune they are at 34:28? Most people are too tired at this point/have given up but this group is so impeccable with their tuning - it's astounding.
If you've played a lot of chamber music, at this point fatigue isn't a factor at all. You're floating on a sea of adrenaline. Especially when you get to play with great musicians, you all feed off each other emotionally. There is an indescribable joy and thrill, which you can see on all their faces. You study and practice for 25 years for moments like this. If anything, the difficulty is to keep your passions under control and continue to play sensitively (yes, even in loud passages) and in complete control of your instrument.
The best chamber music video in UA-cam. Janine Jansen with extra-terrestrial energy - and next to her another of the best players around... Simply WOW !
Yes, Mr Schumacher, I'll second that. The thing to put in front of anyone who thinks he/she can't/won't 'get' chamber music. How the hell is that there are over a hundred 'thumbs down' here?
I think Ms. Jansen was born to play music like this - big and brilliant. This is a really nice performance of a horrifically difficult but gorgeous work.
Arguably the best live chamber music performance of any piece ever! Beyond belief! Janine Jansen's command of artistic impression is unlike anything I have ever heard.
This is my first hearing of this piece. It is remarkable. It's similar to the piano trio. where Tchaikovsky gives us one melody after another- each melody growing out of the one that came before. Tchaikovsky was a genius. He can turn schmaltz into profound pathos. How about that first violist!
No superlatives can do this performance justice. It is just beyond everything. Magical, hypnotic, brilliant, astounding, beautiful, a composition and performance by geniuses.
Surely the most charismatic and energetic violin virtuoso on the circuit today. There are violin compositions that have never found favour with me during my lifetime but when she plays them, i watch, listen and learn. Her enthusiasm overflows and she clearly loves playing chamber/ensemble works.
A true masterpiece and a performance that I'll return to again and again. I have a soft spot for the 3rd movement with all its Russianness and quiet melancholy. My favourite performance of a work I've loved for more than 50 years - there's no greater compliment than that! Thank you for giving us all the chance to enjoy it.
Janine Jansen is phenomenal in performing Tchaikovsky. It seems to me she is passionately into the spirit of Tchaikovsky music perhaps more than any other violin virtuoso that I have listened to. Her performance of Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with conductor Paavo Järvi and Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra is outstanding.
Janine Jansen plays like a demon relishing the creative spontaneity and vivacity of Tchaikovsky, with her fine friends no less on song in this-these- explosive outbursts of brilliance, that not so much fade, as pause, to fold into a sonorous change of mood, simply put the most beautiful of melodies , and those wild, yet profound escapades: his quite magnificent and deeply humane , as well as musically supreme, trade marks of genius.
I love all interpretations of her, but the best interpretations she does together with her friends and own orchestra. Vivialdis 4 seasons of her and her orchestra is the best 4 seasons i ve ever heard. It its so modern and full of energy, it is violin rock and punk.
Congratulations to the ladies!!! Janine Jansen and Vilde Frang... Among the top five: The best viloinists in the world. The very best is a man. A very high level in this performance. The other strings: Excellent. BRAVO!!!
Wow! The loose bow hairs just a small token of your total passion and consummate musicianship. Not enough space to mention all the wonderful things about your performance. A great sextet is a very hard work to compose and also to play well, but you did its composer proud.
Absolutely stunning performance of this amazing and fiendishly difficult piece! Bravo! I come back and watch this video every so often just for inspiration. It is perhaps my favorite chamber music performance of all... and I love to watch Janine conduct emotion with her gestures and facial expression. Captivating!
Julian Rachlin's solo (viola) at the start of movement 3 at ua-cam.com/video/vulKECq4r60/v-deo.html is so lovely and interesting. And there's a wonderful moment of levity when he realizes his open C string is a little bit out of tune and he quickly fixes it while playing the note.
What a performance! That third movement is just to die for. This isn't just the best performance on UA-cam, this beats any recording out there except maybe Sarah Chang's. It's an all-star group, Power and Rachlin are great musicians, Vilda Frang is one of the best young violinists in Europe ..... That 2nd violin part in this piece is really hard, in some ways more difficult than the 1st. It's a bunch of soloists and yet they all play with such care for each other, it really does look like friends in the living room enjoying a nice chamber music read.
❤ wuuuuooo!
For me\, one of Tchaikovsky'\s better works. Delighted to view it so well performed with both emotion and artistry, Thank you for a splendid video. Bravo!
Discrimination is not a right... (love your name)... Funny, I love her playing but cannot watch her play. It's not her fault, she is how she is, we all are. I just find her very distracting and for me it takes away from her skill... so I listen instead.
holy crap. this is MARVELOUS. I'm playing this at a chamber music festival next week, now I can't wait to play it. Thank you for sharing this wonderful interpretation of Souvenir de Florence. I feel bad listening to this for free.
Janie and friends performance of this great music is as good as any I've heard. They are obviously having a lot of fun performing it too! Thank you for sharing -
Goodness what it must be like to PLAY that. I used to play in string quartets and loved when the music got intense...can't even imagine the feeling of playing something so mesmerizing...especially the end of that first movement!
Came here looking for Nikocados comments, cant find them. If you're seeing this hello Nik, thank you for introducing me to this masterpiece! As an aspiring cellist it truly touched my soul❤

Does Janine ever get goosebumps from her own playing?

No. Her jaw doesn't drop the the floor when she looks in the mirror, either.

21:36 having to tune the open C string during a performance. I totally know the feel. #ViolaProblems
No feeling as helpless as a bad open C!
Robert... That's totally normal for cello and viola... we ain't playin' right if we don't have to tune during a concert! ;-).
#ViolaProblems? More like #ViolasAreProblems
janine's laughing at it
Wood tailpiece with fine tuners, never again that problem
Janine should record more Tchaikovsky works. Her interpretation's so breathtaking

You have a better one ? I'd love to see it.
I'm addicted to Vivaldi's Four Seasons but it is Jansen after all.
This video is the DEFINITION of chamber music, 6 soloists together, making music with so much fire and passion...
no words for that!

2:41 first four chairs, like dominoes
I think Rachlin nearly fell off his chair there :P
Or brush strokes. Artist are they all.
wow..
Think they rehearsed that 😂
Actually the domino effect goes thru the cellists too!

Mijn complimenten geweldige uitvoering.👍
