  • In this Veganuary episode my Mum will show you how to make Trinidadian Pelau in her very own style. Pelau can be made in many ways - my least favourite makes use of carrots, and my favourite it by far my Mum's. If you give this easy Trinidad recipe a try, we'd love to know! Hope you like this tasty Pigeon Peas Pelau with Soya Chunks!

    Hello, this is Sabeeta, Sharon’s mom. Love it. This is exactly the way I cook, averaging the ingredients. Must be a West Indian thing.

    Oh goshhhh, Aunty! (in my best Trini accent) Ting lookin’ good!! I have been wanting to make pelau for the past year but haven’t yet gotten to buy the ingredients. Incidentally some of the best pelau I’ve eaten was made by my cousin-in-law’s Trini husband, who I much later found out is Allan’s second (or third?) cousin! I do love your recipes & video appearances - keep up the good work! 💓

    Hi Aneela, my wife and I found your channel while searching for Trini food and came across one of your Mom's earlier videos (could be the parasad one) - and we have been subscribers ever since. We absolutely love your Mom and the way she cooks! Definitely gonna give this a try - perfectly done Moms!

    Yayy!! Aunty is back :)
    I found the way you spelt 'pelau' quite interesting. Here, I reckon a rice dish like this would be called a pulao, pilaf, teheri, veg biryani... There may be vast differences btw them. But I'm too ignorant XD
    If I ever learn to locate pigeon peas or figure out what they are called locally(in Hindi). I'll definitely try this dish.
    Thank you for your efforts and happy new year!

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  2 роки тому +1

      Keen observation Ben! And I agree with you 100% about the spelling.. but most Trinidadians will actually spell it the way that I did. I think it's weird too! When I lived in Bangalore I found fresh pigeon peas and they were called togrika. But I have no idea what it's called in Hindi. Thanks for your comment!

    Dear Aneela! another passionately made video xx
    This is for aunty ji- Aunty ji Namaste, I love watching you cook with so much simplicity and love. Thank you for such a hearty and healthy dish, I did get lots of inspiration, will definitely try it. I won't be able to source whole pigeon peas in Australia, will normal tuvar daal be ok? Best regards to Uncleji and you.

    This looks delish Mum definitely want to try!☺️
    Can you find the pigeon peas at the local grocery store? Can you substitute anything else in place? Somehow I feel the pigeon peas is a staple for this dish?🤔 Also can you opt to not use the browning if you don't have it? Last qz- how do you prevent the rice and pot contents from sticking to the bottom?

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  2 роки тому

      Hello! So sorry for this late reply. I feel like you might be able to substitute lentils although the cooking time might be a little bit different. We get our canned pigeon peas here from the Asian store or the West Indian store.
