- Visiting my mama's gardens is always a joy, and today I am taking you on a garden tour of some of her gardens. Her dry shade gardens offer a completely different gardening experience than my full sun gardens. Join me as we explore this peaceful space that is nearly 45 years old.

I love her garden, my kids are always telling me to slow down, and I say the same thing as your momma if You stop and sit that’s when you start dying. I love seeing other gardeners enthusiasm.
I love your mother's garden! The birdhouses and gazebo that your father built are fantastic and unique. I hope you conduct another fall tour so we can see how her plants embrace autumn color.

I love when we get to visit your mom’s garden. It’s just so beautiful and restful. I’m amazed how healthy all of her hydrangeas are. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by any leaf spot!
I've never really understood exactly what a woodland garden is until today. This garden is absolutely beautiful!! It's just so natural and so very peaceful. I would be in that garden every day, too just like your mama!! Jenny, I am grateful that your sweet Mama let you do a video tour of her lovely peaceful gardens, even though they aren't full of flowers at the moment. She definitely has an eye for placing interesting and unique art objects amongst the plants to draw you into the different garden rooms. The things that your Daddy made for their gardens fit perfectly into the space and give it a special vibe. I would love to have this absolutely adorable garden. I love your mama’s garden! It reminds me of my grandmother’s garden. She had mostly sun, but there were some shady spots. Except in winter, we would always walk around her yard seeing what was in bloom. She loved flowers and had mostly perennials. I loved my grandmama’s yard. Thank you to your mama and to you for sharing it with us. It is a lovely peaceful place, just what a garden is supposed to be.
Jenny, I really love her garden! It reminds me of my parents garden in Arkansas, which also has lots of big pine trees. My momma was also a retired teacher that put so much love and care into her garden after she retired. We lost her in 2020 to cancer, so my daddy tries to keep it all going still, but it's a big job for a 90 year old! Blessings to you, Jerry, and your family!
I agree with you on visiting independent garden centers. We try to always find at least one on our travels.
I also visit botanical gardens.
I love seeing how plants are in other gardens.

Your momma's garden beyond words beautiful! I was just following you through there so intently. So peaceful and natural looking. Everything looks so healthy and she even has voles! Stunning! I deal with moles and they are very frustrating 😤. I love the whimsical touches they have added here and there. That's a skill in itself so it doesn't look tacky. I sooo want a garden like hers. I would be out there just like her, all day! Thank you for and your parents for sharing their little piece of heaven with us ❤️

Oh Jenny, your momma's garden is fabulous. So nice to see a garden that is thriving on rainwater. The trees make a huge difference in what you can grow providing much needed shade. I live in North Central Texas where we are in an exceptional drought so I really appreciate the fullness and beauty of her garden.

Oh my word! I could wake up each morning and stare at 16:43 every day for the rest of my life and be totally continent. What a beautiful view! The whimsical birdhouse with license plates and crystal doorknobs is one of a kind. I can only imagine the deer and other wildlife the that share the property with her. Your momma's garden is so pretty. She makes it looks so effortless but I know a lot of hard work has gone into that garden. I'm in full sun at my house but I can enjoy her peaceful shade garden. Always happy to see these videos.

I always love seeing your mom's garden !!!!!!! I am a tree lover, so I love this woody look. Could we see it in the fall? It would just as stunning. You know Iam 65, was out weeding my garden in the high heat and humidity....thought about getting the roundup out !!!! But. Glad I seen this. Your mom is right, when you sit down you die. So i am headed out to weed !

That's the first time I have seen Edgeworthia mentioned on a gardening channel. I bought a house with one and have been totally enchanted with it. I use the common name, Chinese paperbush, because that's easier for me to remember.
My neighbor's cats have taken care of the moles and voles.😊 Your mother's garden is stunning!

Beautiful garden. Seasons… my garden has been in a sad season. My daddy passed away almost two months ago. It has changed so much, it’s reflected in my garden. Tho there is joy still found in the garden, it is definitely different this summer.

Haha, when my grandfather announced his retirement I cried because I thought he’d “start dying.” Must be a southern thing 😂 I should have known he’d be busier on his farm in retirement than while working.

Thank you for sharing your Mama's gardens. Beautiful! I am a retired teacher also and I am loving the time to work in my garden. Her tips for growing in dry shade are helpful. I have mature pines and grow Oak leaf and beauty berry beneath them. . Never thought to grow Lenten Roses. I will be moving some seedlings to that location in the spring. It is always fun to visit and be inspired by other gardeners. I especially like the way she has incorporated the garden sculpture so that they enhance and not detract from the garden.
I just love Mimi’s garden! Takes me back to my childhood when we had a cabin surrounded by hemlocks & pines. Your momma’s garden is a definite inspiration to me and I love how she allows nature to do her thing w/a little help.

Your parents' garden reflects a true HOME garden created by loving hands who seem to love the beauty in the gifts from God our Creator whether that be in the incredible variety of plants He gives us to enjoy, or the beauty in a a piece of wood, a fallen log, or another artist's creation! I appreciate your just being yourself as you walk through "Mimi's garden" in both your joy of sharing information about a plant, while teaching us as well (I likely could be your mama, but ALWAYS learning !) As a fellow Southerner, I love your natural expressions and lilt in your voice. However, I also appreciate and learn from your very different sounding but naturally gifted gardening friend Laura in Oregon...both of you are "down to earth" as we would say...no pretense in any way. And Jerry did a great job on "walking with you" in that woodland garden environ...that's not easy to do without sliding on pine straw or hitting a tree root (unless that's in the 'bloopers' :) Blessings!

I'm so glad you did this video. Your Mother's garden is amazing! Also, it was so clear how much you admire her talents in the garden area and the love you have for her showed during the whole video. It was fun to hear how old the plants were by referencing the life stages of your daughter and the pregnancy of Jackson. Hearing about the items that were put in while you were still young and before you were born was very special as well. I can only hope to have 1/10th of the beauty this garden offers. Thanks again for all of the inspiration and sharing the special talents of your Mother.

My sweet husband has been trying to get grass to grow in our shaded backyard for years with no success!! What a terrific idea to make a shade garden & definitely more fun!!! Don't know why I haven't thought of if before now. Love the yard art in your Mom's garden. What a super fun place to grow up.

I always love the visits you do to Mimi’s garden. I retired last year and love finally having the time for my own gardens. I still call them baby gardens right now but what plans I have for them. I have some older shrubs and I just keep adding new plants as the weather permits. We are finally getting a nice rain after 6 weeks of no rain and 100+ temps. Thank you for sharing I learn so much from your videos.
