Bruh SU's "Yosemite" was the perfect response to JSU's "Killshot" and that's hard to come back from.
Oh my Southern is off the chain with the songs selections and arrangements. That Batman, Been Around The Word, and Yosemite just goes to show you Southern's range of musicianship and level of power coupled with control and style shows the difference is clear.

These are 2 different extremes. SU is on a whole different level with arranging music. It’s not about power and cranking alone. The pen to paper 📝 makes the world of difference. Almost everything SU played that night is above the skill level of a lot of bands. Every section is busy doing something. Full arrangements make everything sound completely different. They crank when it’s time to crank, then they play balanced to let the melody and counter melody tell the story. Good deal SU and to me this isn’t close.
DID I WRITE THIS? I'd never heard of SU three-years ago. I agree w/what you wrote 100%. I've written the exact same words you have on many YT channels when people use the word "LOUD" to denigrate. Yes, SU can play loud but that's the least of their abilities & accomplishments. These same haters actually try to say SU "isn't musical." Get otta here w/that crap & lie.

This was close. Both sound good.
This was truly a tough one to call. SU brought the more complex arrangements to the table and executed well. As well as they did, JSU also came with the accuracy and quality....neither short stopped on the power aspect. Let's just call this one of those classic ones. Major salute to Prof Simmons on that Batman. That's the stuff that the game has been missing.

JSU won by song selection SU won by sheer power and arrangement. JSU need more trumpets and switch out them baritones and get marching EUPHONIUMS to give their sound some depth. Just my opinion I'm just saying.

I hear growth.25 or 6 to 4 from JSU,a Batman themed song, Been around the World,etc.They're still jamming and performing ballads. Good on both bands.I am originally from Jackson, but have been with the Jukebox since 1982.Although i miss some of the petty antics that Director Haymer brought to the rivalry,i like respectful musicianship as well.Once again,good on both bands!
It was a tie...Without Batman it's definitely a tie...ive heard this battle from all angles an it's a tie...if JSU would've played circle if life the it would've cancelled out Batman cause both of those songs are 2 of the top 5 songs I've heard from a band this year. Human Jukebox ... their arrangements have been ELITE since the 70's. It's not the song, but the arrangement (see Batman theme song). Nice battle though, I enjoyed BOTH bands.

My two favorite bands in the history of bandism😨🤔😂🤣... But seriously, this was by FAR the best battle since Alcorn vs Southern 2014 (for me and my opinion🤚)... Now, this is my honest OPINION about this battle... the 0 quarter i wasnt really into that much from either band, but if i had to pick a winner I'd give that to JSU... The halftime show was amazing from both bands but Southern just out cleared State at what they do best... Now the 5th Quarter😨🤤🤓... Man oh man... 1st let me shout out and congratulate BOTH Southern and Jackson State band staff and members... You all (from both sides) have now made this a MUST see battle for the next few years and/or maybe decades from now... You two are the BEST HBCU/SWAC bands hands down, PERIOD🥁... To Southern: You all have made a BIG step and good impression for yourselves since the Alcorn thing🤦🏽♂️... You (Southern) are the measuring stick for all SWAC bands and even non SWAC bands... You push EVERY single band that faces you bring out their best, which means you all are the BIG DAWGS of the (blaq) band world... You sounded your best here and looked so classy doing what yall do best, and up is all you can go to as you continue to build from here... & To Jackson State: Congrats on staying at the top for the last few decades, giving Southern some of the best of their battles and pushing them to bring their A game every time, creating that classic battle for us... You all sounded very mad and aggressive in every way the whole game... from the arrangements , to the band hype, to what I believe was one of yalls best field drills in the last 5 years... Both you (JSU) and Southern BOTH have crazy POWER💥🔥💥, and both has great arrangers... JSU yall did yalls thing tonight and brought the fight we all wanted to see out of the BIG DAWG (SU).... So (MY OPINION), since BOTH bands brought their best... both bands had power... both bands had good song selections and field drill, there can not be a winner or loser from either Southern or Jackson State... WE ARE the WINNERS in this one here... We just witness another classic that will be watched and reviewed for years to come... GOOD JOB SONIC BOOM... GREAT JOB SOUTHERN...

So bands normally agree on a certain number of songs to play in the 5th and then they get out of there. The days of playing until they turn off the lights are over. The stadium police WILL kick you out....and they normally start with the visiting band...easier to kick out. Home team would have the crowd support and it could get ugly.

I'm neither a jsu or Southern fan I'm an AAMU fan all day but listening to both bands jsu seemed like they were rushing in there songs and more put together at the last min. Southern had some fluffs in there music but I give SU the win based on there musicianship and the cleanessof there songs. Jsu band got power though they didn't get blown out but it's something with SU that's different they don't sound like there size. But this battle Southern in my opinion

Southern Is The Perfect Seasoned Chicken vs JSU The Over Season Ass Chicken I say this because Southern Has A Little Turnup In Them But Just Enough To Be Good At Songs Like Batman, JSU on the other hand is all turnup to me but in my opinion I don’t think they would’ve been able to pull that Batman off like Southern But JSU is most definitely with it don’t get me wrong but if we judge off actual dynamics Southern would win #Opinion
It's no surprise that people on the Human Jukebox page would say that SU won. It's no surprise that people on the JSU Band page say the Boom won. But if you go to non-bias pages the majority of people say JSU won overall. Yes, SU had the best technical song with Batman, but people want to be entertained. The Boom did that better than SU. Sorry, one song does NOT win a battle. Also, ESPN ranked JSU higher than SU for the best 2018 band. I dont want to hear, who cares about the ESPN poll, because SU fans were using that against JSU last year

SU won this battle. I love both bands but SU gives more diversity and different colors of music. They give a much cleaner and crisp sound. They show more musicianship. It sounds like not everyone was playing in JSU band and it the selection weren’t properly executed

This isn't a true statement. I can admit when juke loses and I'm a jukebox alumni and su grad. It is what it is but clearly any objective person whether your a JSU fan or SU fan can without a shadow of a doubt recognize jukebox wore that ass out. We were superior this day. Have JSU been better occasionally yes but we ate tonight.

Cedric Wayne It had actual recognizable songs you want to listen to. SU played an entire setlist of sound alike boring crank songs that were just there as fluff the only good song they played was batman, but one song doesnt win a battle. An interesting consistent book does and jsu had that. They played Reel it in, Everything, a lot more good ones then killed yall with Killshot and left the scene of the massacre. Not to mention yall drumline got waxed just like every other sectiom seeing as some of them didnt even respond to fanfares.
Steven Patrick I wouldn't say one song could win a battle, unless it's a masterpiece... I didn't say that J-State didn't have nice arrangements, but to say Southern had fluff crank and filler and give credit to one song and not take notice to the dynamics, technicality, and musicianship not only of the players, but the arrangers as Well. I feel that they both left some great songs in the folder... because I wanted them to play "Liberation" at J-State so bad.
