Truly my biggest gripe about Fallen Order was the lack of fast travel. They could implement a fast travel feature on the meditation pads where you can rest on them and then fast travel either to your ship (there's a meditation pad on your ship in Fallen Order) or to one you've discovered on that same planet so far. This means on your first visit to a planet, you'll still need to explore it and complete the story path, but these fast travel options will alleviate the annoyance of having to hitchhike back to your ship on a huge planet that's easy to get lost in. It doesn't have to break immersion, just put it in the meditation pads like you did the training simulations post-launch.

but that would break some of the story moments, like when you go into the tomb in zeffo and gain force push or something and then come out and the goats outside are replaced by stormtroopers.
Then the other story part where when youre coming back from one of the planets youre ambushed by bounty hunters.
These would never happen if you can just fast travel back to the ship. Id say just have better shortcuts. The level design was ok but not the best since shortcuts often also required long travels to get to, especially annoying was the ice caves place... getting to and from the venator wreck is a pain in the butt.

I think my biggerst issue with Fallen Order is the stim timing, it getting cancelled by every thing and having to wait for BD to throw me one and for Cal to use it so I can get healed, specially on fights that i have little to no time to breathe, cause the enemy have a dash to get cloe so me or a ranged atack.

I just picked up Fallen Order for $10 on sale... I only picked it up because it was so cheap on Steam and din't expect much, but I was plesantly surprised and entertained. The gameplay wasn't bad, but it was nothing new or spectacular, it was the story that drew me in and the characters that felt fully fleshed out and relatable. I was more than happy to simply play it through in story mode with no intention to put any more time into it after the story was complete. So for me it was short but served it's purpose.

  • @drakejohnson5386

Something that I have always wanted is a combat system surrounding the 7 lightsaber forms. I don't think that we could expect 7 different combo chains, but I think choosing a form, receiving passives and hindrances and maybe some different animations is doable. An example is how form 2 makes one on one duels easier, which could translate to making parry windows larger, increasing posture damage or increasing damage against posture broken enemies. They could make blaster deflections harder and hinder abilities that deal with groups. Form 6 is used to focus on force abilities over leaning on your lightsaber. This could be the only form to passively Regen force power, make them cheaper or something else. Possibly decrease posture damage or health damage output.
Another interesting system that would be interesting could be a passive and active force perk system. Imagine the chip system in Nier Automata, where some chips require more energy. Imagine a system where your force connection is like that energy bar, and you can take certain passives and active abilities+ modifiers that make up your increasing force connection. I found it odd how much difference there was between normal attacks and the force imbued lightsaber attacks. I get there is stuff like force speed, but still.
Finally an interesting showing of progression could be to change the type of game it is based off. Dark souls inspired games try to make the combat more grounded* where any foe can kill you if you don't respect it. Which makes sense for a Padawan, but after the last game and training, Cal should be like a knight and so if the game choose a different inspiration, like DMC, that would be an interesting way to represent that. An interesting idea is to take DMC5's Virgil concentration meter and take it to star wars. The light side requires focus where the dark side requires passion. I could see the game make you go down a dark side path if you go wild and less focused by getting hit. Staying centered by deflecting everything could lead to staying in light side. Maybe having the power of a DMC character is not equal to a Jedi knight and more akin to that of a Jedi master. It's an idea for later?
Just some of the nerdiest thoughts imaginable.

@@binksmagnus ime it wasn't the actual size of the window just when it starts and ends in the animation
I only really noticed because I was doing a playthrough of sekiro along side JFO
It was much easier to ditch the "learned" timings in sekiro and just go on pure instinct than it was on JFO (in my opinion because of the placement of the parry window)

    • @mateuszsotys3912
      @mateuszsotys3912 Рік тому +4

Yeah, and there is also an issue with what happens after the window ends. In Sekiro the parry window is always accompanied by a much larger block window that is after the parry window, so you aren't punished so hard for parrying to early.
In Fallen Order parry window is early and there is no safety net, after missing a parry you can't really try to start parrying the rest of the combo like you did in Sekiro, In my opinion moving the parry window later and adding a block window after the parry window would greatly benefit FO and incentive learning how to parry consistently.
I really liked the game but it really is "Sekiro but worse". Although being like Sekiro is fine, Sekiro is a masterpiece.

Image how awesome it would be to tear through hoards of stormtroopers with force lightning, or regaining Health after killing enemies with Force Drain! I'm just gonna disagree on one thing areas being populated specifically in this game. The whole point is that your away from civilization trying to survive and figure out where you need to go the planets you go to are specific planets that are essentially abandoned. If anything it sets the game apart from those other star wars games it makes you feel alone the only interaction cal has is with greez and cere and all the people trying to kill you. Now for the sequel I'd agree cal isn't exactly running away or surviving so it makes way more sense in that way.

You've certainly hit a lot of my feelings with Fallen Order and hopes for Jedi Surviver.
Indeed I would love a way to play passively in the game with mind trick and calm animals, for a game that didn't want to focus on dark side powers they did lean a lot into aggressive gameplay with killing giving your force back and XP, feels more Sith then Jedi.
Also a way to continue combos when dealing with bosses would keep combat flowing nicely and feel just like how we see it in the movies.
If Fallen Order is our Assassin's Creed 1, I hope Surviver is our AC 2/Brotherhood.

I understood and accepted why cal had a limited amount of force to use in a combat encounter in the first game, being shut off for so long and being so young. However in this next game if I can’t get through a fight with a group of stormtroopers without touching any of my weapons I’ll be pissed. At this point he’s clearly much older and more in tune with the force. Also, my biggest complaint about fallen order was what you mentioned with the combat. If I break an enemies posture there should be an immediate finisher of cal elegantly slaughtering his target. If this was the case, the lightsaber combat would be so smooth and from a visual standpoint, cal would look like an absolute badass, assuming there’s a proper variety in finishers. My best example of this is in the Witcher, when you mind trick someone there’s a high chance that if you attack them while they’re dazed, you get an instant finisher, and by the end of an encounter you could have killed 5 bandits with unique brutal finishers that each feel wholeheartedly satisfying

Maybe exploration could lead to more skill points, or you could have a blueprint/upgrade system a bit like Dead Space but limited to those specific upgrades to tools being on a different system to force ability upgrades you get from XP levels, like faster blaster cooldowns, faster BD-1 utils like stim speed and storage that we already had in the first game, maybe some lightsaber tweaks that affect your movesets in small ways that adjust damage speed and posture.

I really don't want a major stat system, the one in this game is already good enough. With points you can increase your damage and health, through progression you gain abilities, and that's enough. A complicated stat system will make the game a math game and way less skill based. I don't want enemies to interrupt executions either. In real combat scenario a soldier will not be locked in some animation and can't defend himself, execution is a game thing and should remain this way.
The aspect I most want improved is the delay between when you press the button and when Cal actually reacts. Sometimes I feel I have quick reflexes but the game doesn't care, I have to "predict" when the enemy attacks.

Sekiro is perhaps one of my favourite games, and Fallen Order never quite clicked the same way with me (not that I didn't enjoy it). I could never quite figure out why but hearing you explain it makes it very clear to me, it is the fact that breaking posture only gives you a free hit instead of killing the enemy (or for bosses giving a big chunk of damage like Elden Ring or God of War does). It would also deal with one of the big criticisms I see Star Wars fans level at the game, that your lightsaber feels more like a baseball bat than a laser sword that can cut through nearly anything.

I think the reason the devs didn't go for an RPG stat system is because they wanted everyone to be happy with the way Cal looked (ponchos) and for players to customize their lightsabers to their hearts content. That being said, I believe a majority of fans have requested more customization. If they did switch to a stat system, I think they should make it to where any piece of armament or tech could be visually replaced with whatever other piece. This way going after chests isn't just for cosmetics, players can customize Cal how they want. On top of that I don't think people asking for a fast travel system don't appreciate the levels. It's just tedious for players who want to collect everything have to retread the same ground multiple times just to get to one area.

When it comes to stats and more RPG mechanics, idk, I´m going to be the type of adventure game player that has to say they don´t want that. What they could do to spice up the rewards for exploration, without going all the way with a stat system, is maybe getting perks out of certain lightsaber parts or clothe combination. Like getting an extra stim for using X lightsaber crystal with Y hilt, or an extra Force gain when dodging with X poncho combined with outfit Y. No need of statitistics or levels while still affecting gameplay through customization.

One of the key game mechanics that I need as someone that isn't particularly good at having sharp reflexes. It wasn't clear to me in the game how or when to Perry successfully. I would prefer on an easy mode that there is an on screen prompt telling you when to hit the button for the Perry.
I also sometimes felt that the game doesn't necessarily feel like a Star Wars game. You mostly do exploration completely on your own an environment that are ranging in a diversity. One of the key features of Star Wars is having a interesting atmosphere of different aliens and cultures mixing together and we got none of that in the entire game. I think it would be important to have 1 or 2 levels that take place in an urban environment where your character can interact with a variety of different aliens species just not out on the fringe of the frontier. Star Wars feels like Star Wars when you have at least one scene in a container with multiple alien species drinking and having a good time listening to their favorite science fiction music. If you're not visiting a busy space for at some time in a Star Wars game you're not necessarily doing it right. There are a lot of great things about jet iPhone order that I absolutely adore. Lightsaber customization and lightsaber color are definitely some of my favorite things. I think it would be great to kick it up a little bit of a level and have different internal lightsaber parts that change the behavior of the weapon

You have to parry, dodge, deflect and use skills to break the enwmies guard, but when you do, it's almost aleays an instakill. At the very least, you get to fire off a full combo tather than a single hit. If Jedi Survivor makes a few small tweaks, it'll be much better. I honestly don't know why the first game got so much praise with how lack luster the combat was.

You had me all the way up to trying to imply that a lame modern RPGlite system would make the game better. That's just not true at all. It makes no sense for a star wars game like this. Sekiro has no RPG elements and greatly benefits from the lack of them. Just adding more abilities and a skill tree that actually matters would be good like the forced unleashed

    • @binksmagnus
      @binksmagnus  Рік тому

You'd have to define "RPG elements" very exclusively to say that Sekiro has none. The complexity of the progression system for the Shinobi Prosthetics by themselves kind of get my point across, and then there are the various items that increase your resistance to damage of various types (or, if you prefer, just the fact that there are different damage types) or provide immunities, damage output increases, skills that significantly alter the way you play the game (which, for all the skills in the game, JFO doesn't really have apart from Precision Evade).
Whether Sekiro is a true "RPG" can definitely be debated, but almost every major game release these days has RPG elements.

@@binksmagnus Ways in which fallen order changes the combat game space via skills besides precision evade.
Push & howling push: Being able to ledge kill either one or multiple smaller enemies, or being able to stun larger enemies for a cheeky combo extension (especially if mixed in with normal attacks) also allows for ranged stamina damage before unlocking saber throw.
EFR: Allowing for more force recovery on a kill and even for blocking/parrying. This allows for more force use during the course of a fight (especially when playing on a difficulty which doesn't allow for force regen)
The stim upgrade: I forget the name but the stim upgrade which gives you full force meter... Need I say more?
Grasping pull: Allows for instakills on many enemy types (even purge troopers if you're smart about positioning) and allows for continued combo chains.
Howling pull: Great utility for dual bladed AOE combos against crowds.
Overhead slash & leaping slash: Literally your bread and butter for damage if you have force and before you grab the split saber strong attack, allows for Cal to break guards very easily or even insta kill.
Dash strike: A gap closer which can jump over guards if you button prompt in time, can also be used as a makeshift dodge. Does more damage than a normal slash and is great for combo openers.
Delay thrust/Delay combo: Combo changer, allows for basic enemies to be two shot instead of the typical three and gives the player more range on their attacks. It's not ground breaking but it is a noticeable change. Also it's one of the few variant combos in the game that isn't" press this button quickly."
Sprint strike: The force free but slightly weaker version of dash strike, it's really effective on ads who like to dodge your first hit with a button read.
Agile deflection: Auto block bolts when sprinting, allowing the player to remain mobile but still defend themselves from pesky gunners which make up a majority of imperial encounters.
Throw/Power throw: Ya throw your lightsaber, it's hurt box can trigger both on the going and return trip hitting multiple enemies. Power throw makes it so the range is even further than before and potentially can attack even more people yet again from a safe distance.
The entire unlock of the saber staff: I don't know how to further illustrate how this is game changing...
Slow and it's upgrades are pretty cool too... not great but it does change the environment by temporarily taking foes out of commission.
You also go on to state
"And then there are the various items that increase your resistance to damage of various types (or, if you prefer, just the fact that there are different damage types) or provide immunities, damage output increases"
See I've never played SSDT, at most I watched some challenge runs but I have played souls games (a lot of them) and while I know these are all standard things in those games I found myself looking at the SSDT wiki and uh there are a lot of quick items to use, but none that grant immunity. Some resistances, healing, dmg output, healing, killing or damaging oneself for gain or just to off yourself, and status ailment buffs/de-buffs.
Besides that uh I wouldn't call item use RPG elements sure, but to many of them and you risk bogging down the experience and if they aren't renewable players generally "save on to them" aka they never use it. Fallen order does have a consumable, which you can find more of and even upgrade twice (or is it more than that?) but at minimum twice. I think that's fine, and since it's also your main way of healing it's encouraged to be used like the estus flask from souls games.
Also on the topic of prosthetics, aren't they just abilities you find in the world? I mean that doesn't per say sound very RPG to me, hell LOZ has those and that is action adventure not a RPG. While not exactly the case for all modern RPGs most mechanically entail some type of statistical progression. Looking it over by reading up online, the only "upgrades" a player can gain via XP is though skills? Which are close enough to how they are learned in JFO.
While yes you can also upgrade HP and attack power those are both locked behind bosses and minibosses as a reward. I mean... JFO kinda does the same thing. You can either buy health, posture and attack power via XP OR you can get HP, FP, and more stims via world exploration alongside XP points that also give you lore which in turn equates to more levels. It's the same deal just locked behind a different condition.
On top of combat abilities the game is also changed though exploration via story locked ability gain. Slow, wallrun, push, double-jump, pull and hell even your standard saber swings can aid you in traversal. It's akin to the grappling hook in sekiro. But I still think it classifiers enough "significantly changing the way you play the game"
Also from what I'm seeing on shinobi tools... they don't look like they change up the gameplay that greatly. On top of that the wiki says you only have three. But hey I could be wrong or be reading the wiki wrong beats me.
Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to degrade sekiro, I've heard it's a wonderful game... But I don't think FO needs what games like that have to "be better"

The story is what I had the most problem with. But I loved the environment and how effective that was and played into the story like you. But unfortunately the only characters I liked and thought were interesting were Greers, Trilla (which is a big compliment because I hate the concept of inquisitors so they’re starting at a disadvantage to get me on board with them) and BD 1. The other characters were much to boring, bland, predictable, generic and cliche and also way too powerful and something we’ve seen a thousand times before and many times just in the same franchise and recently too but done much better (Kanan in Rebels).
Also bugs me how many humans there are and especially how many Jedi were introduced in just the 1 game who somehow are all ridiculously human. Really cheapens order 66 and makes the galaxy very small and breaks immersion. But being a mega Star Wars fan I had a massive issue with the holocron macguffin and especially with how Vader was handled and his motivations and interactions which is a gross misunderstanding of the character’s psychology. It’s not as ridiculous or disrespectful as Kenobi but it’s still disappointing. The only content that gets Vader right is books and comics it seems. It’s also only where he gets his wins, he literally fails in every single film, game and tv show so far.
Overall I loved the actual game and it’s mechanics. Hoping the next one improves the story and characters for me. And please, no more humans you xenophobes ahaha!

Humans are still the most abundant species in the Star Wars galaxy. So the lack of non humans isn’t entirely surprising. But having Jedi that were a different species would’ve been cool. Even if they made Cal a different species.

    • @protector_of_the_realms
      @protector_of_the_realms Рік тому

@@OldBenKenobi2318 Yeah they are but it is pretty surprising and unrealistic ngl the amount that are the protagonists of stories. They don’t make up 99% of the entire galaxy’s population. It should be around less than 20% with the next most prominent species besides them being like 5% or less of the whole galaxy’s population. But we should at least have an over 80% chance of a protagonist or new Jedi or just a side character being an alien rather than a human. I give the OT a pass because of its limited budget (and retroactively lore wise the empire is racist and probably has segregation in place and obviously enslaves aliens so I can dismiss all the rebels as humans because aliens are under more scrutiny and find it harder to get out of their oppression and contribute) but despite that even back then on Tatooine they had a good alien to human ratio, you saw more alien civilians than humans and yet in the Kenobi show ridiculously despite being filmed in the modern day, 99% of background characters are human on Tatooine and everywhere else and the only alien with a speaking role is a dumb imperial sympathiser.
The PT was great and realistic with the ratio and ultimately believable. Practically everyone in the senate and Jedi order that wasn’t an already established character was an alien, there were many aliens in the background and there were complicated relationships with bickering populations such as the Gungans and Sepratists and Neimodians in the Trade federation. Creates such interesting opportunities for stories and lore and it’s so fleshed out, believable and representative of how the galaxy is. Especially in the ST though the lack of aliens makes no sense. There isn’t a racist regime in power, it’s the new republic. There should be many more aliens wanting to secure their reinstated livelihoods and fight back against oppressive threats seeking to do the same thing as the empire. Obviously the ST has much bigger issues and it doesn’t bother me because I can’t consider it apart of my canon really anyway (same with Kenobi unfortunately tbh) but still. It unintentionally brings about the white saviour trope with the majority coming in to save the minorities because they’re too lazy and not strong enough to do it themselves. And it’s immersion breaking. I really think Cal should’ve been a Nautolan. Would have been cool and fit with the under water features (which I was totally surprised by and loved when I discovered them in the game). But yeah one of the devs or designers are most definitely xenophobic haha. There was an interview where they were asked about alien characters and he said people need a human face to relate to as if Ahsoka and Maul aren’t 2 of the most popular Star Wars characters and as if Masterchief or Mando with no face don’t exist lol. At least 2 of the 5 new Jedi introduced in the game should’ve been aliens but really at this point we need to start bolstering numbers and just make them all alien ahaha. It also just doesn’t make sense to keep them human. Aliens are cooler, more iconic and distinctive so they’re more memorable and sell more toys. Their species can also give more depth to their character and create cooler backstories. No idea why they insist on still making everyone human ffs.
Anyway with that rant on aliens done, now concerning the inquisitors haha:
I’m just a subscriber of the rule of two lol. Especially when it comes to Vader and Palpatine. They’re so powerful themselves they shouldn’t need or want any other force users around and I think it really cheapens the characters and limits the moments they can have themselves by making up more lightsaber wielding force users. And ultimately they were only made for more lightsaber fights where the good guys can win which is just so contriving to me. I know we get the emperors hand and stuff in legends but I was never a fan of even that and the amount of inquisitors is just even more ridiculous. The fact they’re all ex Jedi is annoying too. Every Jedi that survives order 66 cheapens that moment no matter how they survived and it’s a bit insane how many Palpatine got to turn so quickly before Vader even had his mask attach to him. I don’t mind the concept of a couple Dark Jedi in this period demonstrating how far the Order had fallen in recent years, but Vader needs to hunt them down with no bias and shouldn’t want to work with anyone. Plus the inquisitors aren’t treated as characters anyway most of the time, just as bodies for heroes to fight and most are 1 dimensional. But we’re fast approaching 20 of them now which is ludicrous
