In this video, I explore an area between Tehachapi and Bakersfield, CA. I also introduce you to my new 4x10 camera set up. Then I photograph a few trees and a couple of trains. I hope you enjoy the video!

To take some thing of nature and turn it into a thing of Beauty is on it own a Craft.
The black and white image of the three trees at the beginning is a masterpiece. This is the kind of work you would expect from Ansel Adams. Spectacular.
Thank you! Not a bad person to be compared to.
Seriously, this a masterpiece for you? It's average at most. There's nothing special about it. You should train your eyes a bit more
Great video and images, as always. I was in that general area in March 2022 when the wildflowers were in full bloom along CA 223 between Arvin and CA 58. I did have a weird experience there, though.
I parked in a gravel area to the side of the road near the Arvin Cross with a bunch of other folks out looking at the wildflowers, and wandered off with my camera and tripod. By the time I returned, only my car and another car parked really close to mine on the passenger side (about 5 feet away) were left in the parking area that was about 100 yards wide. I put my gear away, got in the car, and noticed two guys sitting in the car next to me. I didn't think much of it and drove off.
About a half mile down the road, I noticed that my tire pressure monitor indicated low tire pressure on my right front tire. I pulled over and confirmed that the pressure was low, but not flat, and I couldn't see any cause (i.e., nail) after inspection. I drove into Arvin and reinspected my tire and still found no apparent cause, but when I went to fill the tire with air, the valve stem cap was missing. I know that i put the cap back in place after filling my tires with air a few weeks before. I drove all the way back to San Diego (250 miles) without losing pressure in the tire.
At the risk of sounding paranoid, I had to wonder if the two guys in the car that parked so close to mine intentionally let the air out of my tire in hopes that I would notice, get out, and check the tire, giving them the opportunity to jump/rob/assault me while I was bent down looking at the tire. It would have been a perfect set-up because both cars were parked perpendicular to the road, and anyone driving by wouldn't have been able to see what was going on between the cars. It was an isolated area with low traffic about an hour before sunset.
My imagination may have gotten the better of me, and the two guys could have been harmless. Still, in retrospect, too many things seemed out of place. Keep your Spidey senses up even in remote areas.
16:12 This one turned out great. The motion blur makes the train look alien and futuristic, and there’s a tension between the ongoing momentum of that which has long since passed and the momentum that has yet to come.
The last one with the train is amazing.
I used to live in Tehachapi and have up and down Woodford Tehachapi road many many times
Used to stop by the loop numerous times I remember that wreck I didn't know it was still there
That last photograph - WOW! That's really cool. Could look at that photograph for hours.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it.
Great content, as always! I always love when I get a notification you posted something new. Thanks, Shane.
Thanks for watching, Justin 👍🏼
Love these videos man! Do you think you could include some more zoomed in video or the photo? To show off the detail of the large format?
Wow. I love large format film. I had Sinar 4x5 camera, but still have no chance to shoot. Your video and your work really inspire me. Thank you.
Fantastic work, Shane. I recently discovered your channel and it's quickly become one of my favorite photography channels on UA-cam. You're killing it!
Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying it 👍🏼

Great video. Nice work. Love the look of your images with this new back. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful video Shane. I appreciate your sharing some of the details regarding your 4x10 back. Very inspiring, interesting, and entertaining content. The music is a solid addition to the imagery. Looking forward to your next creative adventure.
Thanks, Jeff! Yeah, I quite happy with the reducing back. 4x10 is a great compliment to 8x10.
Love it .
Absolutely stunning, the photography of train is fantastic, great video as usual!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Great video with nice shots! A very nice set up camera wise and camping!
Loving that 4 x 10 format…..
It’s a great compliment to 8x10
Thanks Shane, a nice and inspiring video. Like the pano in black and white. I am sure you have also done Infra-Red photography. To me these subject will be really interesting in IR. Please keep up the good work.
Beatiful and inspiring pictures!
Thank you!
Thanks Shane. Great work and enjoyed the images. Yep, got to experiment sometimes . KB
Thanks, Ken. It's true, no better way to learn.

Thanks, Jay! Sorry about the Subaru.
@@shanedignum Hopefully I'll get it back soon.
Ben Horne recently recommended your channel. Glad he did.
Thanks for joining me over here. Ben is a good friend.
Great BnW images Shane AA was my mentor not that I am showing my age LoL
Thanks, Ron!
Love the trees, trains? Mehh 🤣 Joking aside, not what I was expecting when you said a second for the ITM (intentional train movement) works well 👍
Haha! Yes, that felt like the right shutter speed for the speed of the train, but it's really an educated guess.
Just finished watch this as your new Pateron. :) Great video and images. PS Isn't there a half-dark slide for 8x10 holders that get you close to 4x10? I have one for my Chamonix 4x5.
Thanks for joining me on Patreon! That's a good point. I actually used the split dark slide method before purchasing the Shen Hao 4x10. It worked fine, but there were a few drawbacks as well.
@@shanedignum where did you get your 4x10 back from and do you cut your 8x10 sheets or order from the Ilford ULF order?
There is half dark slide for 8x10. Then you do not need a separate film holder, but you got to be really careful not to double expose your 8x10 film. Mine is by Chamonix .
Great work Shane, Ben put me on to you. I have a question that I hope is not to silly. 10 x 4 film do you buy it that size? or do you make it? Thanks for any reply.
Hi Mark. I order Ilford 4x10 film during their annual ULF film run. For color film, I cut 8x10 sheets in half.
So with the 8x10 you had a pano holder made. Why not just crop in post to the size you want? Wouldn't that give you more options?
I thank you for the video they are quite informative and relaxing as well.
I prefer composing the photo in the field. If I see a subject that works well as a Pano, then that's how I photograph it. It's also half the cost of an 8x10 sheet of film. Thanks for watching!
