    Nice looking layout, big with lots of straight and long curved running. Great use of space and it will keep you out of trouble 🤣👍

    What more can you ask for peace and quiet in your home man cave model railways and beer 👍

    Nice progress. Would suggest making the swing bridge. Going underneath every time will get annoying. I put one in my layout and while a bit of a pain to do I’m glad I did it.

      Thanks for that advice. I might give it a go, and see how tricky it actually is, I can always change my mind and fix it in place if it gets too much work to keep everything aligned 👍

    Really looking forward to following along, you do amazing work. Have you thought about using carpet or hard floor underlay to lay the track on before you tack it down permanently. I have found it good for sound suppression in the past. Really looking forward to seeing this evolve.

      Thanks Malcolm, I’ll be using cork under all the track, both for the height but also noise suppression 👍

      Carpet tile is rigid and sound suppressing too. This is fascinating

    Great video, when you say long flowing curves, do you mean flexi track ?

    • @riverbankrailways
      @riverbankrailways  4 місяці тому

      That’s right Alan, but as well as using flexi track, also giving the space in the curves and keeping them shallow to stop the train having to bend sharply around the corner of the room, which is not realistic of how they would curve in real life - hope that makes sense!

    I'm curious about the gauge. Is is standard HO, or is there slightly wider track to model the Irish gauge? I guess it depends on what the main loco and rolling-stock manufacturers do.

    • @riverbankrailways
      @riverbankrailways  4 місяці тому +1

      It’s standard OO from Peco. The prototypical Irish gauge is slightly different than in the UK but I’d say there’s not enough market for manufacturers to make that gauge in model form (I think only Ireland and one part of Australia use our specific gauge in real life :) )

    • @anotherfreediver3639
      @anotherfreediver3639 4 місяці тому

      @@riverbankrailways Thanks for clearing that up - I suspected it was the case. But on my only visit to Ireland, I was struck by how it looked visibly wider in proportion than the narrower 'standard' gauge. Of course, if manufacturers from Ireland, the Iberian peninsula, and the Russian Federation got together, they could produce a generic 'broad gauge' track system for those countries!

    • @anotherfreediver3639
      @anotherfreediver3639 4 місяці тому

      And of course it's complicated further in England by modellers running 1/76 trains on 1/86 track, for historical reasons, which again is detectably different from the prototype.

      Ireland + Iberian peninsula + Russia is a very interesting group 🤣

      Cheers, yeah we’re kinda spoilt a little in Ireland cos the same station yard scene could be in the 80s or ten years ago 🤣 Good for modelling, but not a good state of affairs in real life!

      @@riverbankrailways look at tuam Station on Google maps with an abandoned turntable cattle sidings and about 6 grassed over coach sidings and a shed.
