In August of 2021, the world was introduced to the newest, designed from the ground up Kia electric vehicle sitting on the new Electric Global Modular Platform, and used the new EV-line naming nomenclature. While classified as a crossover vehicle, the EV6 is more of a kammback-style wagon than a crossover. It’s low, wide and has a large interior package, but does not have the upright body style typically associated with crossovers. At its introduction, the EV6 was available in either front wheel drive or eAWD with dual electric motor configuration, which added a snow drive mode to the available driver-selectable drive modes. Trim levels were Light, Wind and GT-Line.
Back in June of 2022, we reviewed a Wind trim-level EV6 equipped with the dual-motor eAWD configuration, much like this one, and found it to be an impressive vehicle. Overall, the EV6 is a good all-around vehicle, with good performance and economy ratings, as well as a great warranty!
Then, in October of 2022, a new variant of the EV6 was introduced. A more powerful version of the GT-Line. As if 320 HP and 446 Lb/Ft of torque, with a 0-60 MPH time of 4.6 seconds wasn’t enough. Well, it wasn’t for Kia, so, they took the GT-Line and removed the Line, leaving the GT. A sporty variant of the EV6 with dual motor configuration, eAWD capability, massive 15” brakes with 4-piston calipers, a stiffer suspension, revised steering geometry and sport seats that wouldn’t look out of place in a super car. Then, there’s the performance…0-60MPH in just 3.5 seconds. At less than $70K. And, while it was never announced or even heralded as the successor to the outgoing Stinger, I feel that the EV6 GT is exactly that. It’s the spiritual successor to the Stinger, and, the EV6 GT dual motor eAWD is what we are going to look at in-depth today!
