Hey!! I am Erick kiyega the lead actor.. Thank you all for watching and sharing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.. It means a lot to us. Being part of this film changed me as person,it helped me discover a lot about myself … Many memories were made too.. This is a dream come true for me.. thank you all..
Literally most Ugandan kids' life...all they count on is there big dreams 😊😊😊 lived such a life.... only difference is my pops wasn't there to do his part. I'm always pushing everyday to the top.... thank you, this was helpful and remindful...
It’s great to see a film that glorifies one’s home rather than the American dream. I’m American but I love to see people around the world love where they are from instead of wishing they could come to the US.
I don't think they want to come to the US because they hate their country they come because they want something their country can not or is not providing them.
@@jazzyj6640 When my GrandParents came here 100 years ago-even with all the trials, setbacks, racism-“Dreams” could be realised. For all its faults, it had promise-at that time the US was on the ascent. In my lifetime, since about the age of ten, there’s been nothing but retrenchment & descent. Now, an Elder, I’m planning on leaving. “Americans” were barely tolerable when there was plenty to go around. Now that the American Empire is unraveling…these “Americans” take pleasure in destruction and pain. They thrive on misery-and go out of their way to inflict it on everyone they come in contact with. There is no Dream here. It’s a never ending nightmare one is desperate to wake from.
Laki Karavias here! Writer and Director of The Night I Left America. Thank you all for watching and sharing your heartwarming thoughts about the film. It means the world to our entire team! This story came about while I was a driver for a Ugandan youth choir traveling through America. Over the course of our time, the kids and I formed a little film crew and cast members of the choir to shed a light on the beautiful place they call home.
Despite all of the difficulties, the boy's dreams serve as an escape. Some dreams, no matter where one is, do come true with some work and patience. Failure is sometimes the first step toward success.
I really like the father-son dynamic that was displayed here. Did I get this right, he seemed relieved that they would be leaving or at least not bothered very much? 😊
Rich / Poor, it's a mindset. You could have billions of dollars, but no good family, no good friends, that would really, make you poor compared to the one who does have a strong family bond and friends but no money. People want to see rich and poor by possessions and materialistic markers, but it's really, all in your mind, heart, and soul. He had a momma and dad who loved him dearly, and did everything they could to raise him properly and teach him the life lessons to help him succeed.. That makes him one of the richest people on earth
Very well directed and acted. It reminds us to enjoy the gift of life and individuality. Pursue your passions and interests, money will eventually follow. Do not loose yourself completely chasing wealth.
There is no such thing as being lucky you are born not born here or there. It is either you are born rich or poor regardless of where you are. The story of redemption is not only native to developing countries. Only ego or indifference would make you think otherwise. So to rephrase your comment, "you are lucky that you were not born in a poor family"
Not every family in a third world country is suffering, put it right. We also have classes, the rich, middle class and the poor. Whatsoever class we may be, we're still grateful that we have life. Personally I thank God that I even survived Covid 19
I thought they were going to be accepted citizenship at first. Well they were fleeing Africa for a better life, but i guess the point is the boy has a new outlook on life.
@@gemstar7286 I a thought the same too. I think we as Americans idealize our country not realizing some people are happier living elsewhere. Besides that, the film made me cry.
It was a letter of rejection, they can no longer stay and work in America. Consider his reaction to this, compare it to his reason for running in Africa. Why did the seed grow?

I believe the “American” dream is a scam. 😂

Such a great short! Having been to Uganda twice, this touched my heart in a profound way. Such a beautiful nation ❤
Thanks for sharing and putting this film together. Must have been the Watoto children's choir.
Thank you 😊
@@gronovius Thanks so much for sharing that. I hope the a touch of the spirit that made an impact on you while there came through in this film.
@@HellenTomu It was such a joy. This was actually the Bride of Hope Children's Choir. They are based in Wakiso. Have you heard of that organization?
The father in the film was so wise. Taught his son about life 👍
Father's are vital in the lives of their children and the community at large.
Yeah it's sad that he lost his dad at a young age, but his wisdom has stayed with him.
One day Africa may have its own African dream that others can aspire to.
I think you are one of the best at this. God bless you
❤❤And it's partly in Luganda. Kudos
Uganda, Luganda is the language.
The story, performance and delivery are really outstanding 👏🏽👏🏽🔥

Wow'wow wow. Our own Kiyega Eric.proud of u.(sandra)may God open more doors .You're so talented
Such a beautifully told story.
I am deeply saddened that what was the great American Dream is now reserved for a privileged few.
There’s no American dream for African Americans or else we would be free to be who we are, yet we still face racism.
I agree. It’s terrible so many of us struggle to even live in this country.
Very talented young boy
That was a powerful reality✔️✔️

Thanks guys for that beautiful story
Those of us who are not from a third world country need to be grateful, every day, for what we have.
Exactly 👍
There is only one world and I was born in Uganda.

A young man from Uganda bruh I live in Uganda
I pray they are happier in Africa. American Dream does not become reality for everyone.

I don't understand the ending
What was the letter about?
It was a letter of rejection, they can no longer stay and work in America. Consider his reaction to this, compare it to his reason for running in Africa. Why did the seed grow?
they went back home, from what i understood, due to not being eligible to stay in America.
A rejection letter of not being able to stay or work in the US. They would have to move back to Africa.
I wish I was in Africa right now
You are running 🏃♂️ from a snake and noticed a twisted branch????😅😅😅😅😅
Great job cast and crew. Based on many true stories. The harder the struggle the more we are refined as if baptized in the fire of The Living God.
Some of these comments though 🤣🤌 such ignorance 🤦🏾♂️ the “first world” grapples with Debt and poverty too .
I swear i though you were going to say uvalde
