Thanks Bub. Gotta modify the office door at the senior citizens apartments where. I do maintainance. Got a hollow core door there I need to turn into a dutch door. Your a big help. Keep up the good work.
Making a dutch door for my coffee shop. I hastily grabbed a door i assumed was solid wood. We have not cut it yet but my guy was worried it was hollow cuz that would be a real problem. Now i can see it really is not a problem at all. Cool.
Nice job. Just a suggestion. That inside door knob is real close to the bottom of the shelf. I foresee scrapped knuckles. I would replace that door knob with a lever style door handle.
I tried to do this to keep my dogs out of my room but still have it accessible for my cats. Me and my dad did it very similar to how you did it. Let me just say wow you did it so much easier than us lol
Nice job Kevin. I did a quick search of your videos looking for the follow up you mentioned to show how it held up over time but I didn't find it, did you do one?
@Kevin Robinson I'm thinking of doing this with the door to my hall coat closet, but with the knob on the top. The bottom gets hung up on my welcome mat and I really only need the top open to get at coats. I hardly ever use the stuff I keep lower down in there. I was thinking that the latch would be the tricky part, but the type you used looks perfect. Will you come weld a washer on it for me?
Really like the project. But I am curious about one thing. If liquid nails didn't exist, would you still be able to do anything? Maybe make an exterior dutch door for a garage that holds a window a/c unit? Now there's a challenge!
I'm going to try this out in a week or so.. Thinking that I may have to shorten the shelve over the knobs, they look, inconvenient to use with the shelf so close.
Nice job! I want to do this on a bedroom door to allow cats access but not the dogs. How is it holding up? Does there have to be a shelf or could it be smaller? Thank you!
couldve used much smaller "brackets" under the door. If it needed braces how come not just some small wooden "triangle-cubes" under the shelf, like about 2 inches thick or some pre-fab molding for underneath? this "dutch door "may be functional but not very attractive in the quaint old style. Those little shelves are usually on both sides.
Good job but one thing you didn’t do you should’ve showed the people what to do with the frame for the hinge specially, if the frame is metal because then you would have to cut the Door side out twice as deep to make up for the hinge sticking out
Looks great, I just have one small criticism. The door knob looks very hard to use on the front side. Looks like it will be hard to get your hand in there and turn it to open it. I can see lots of skinned knuckles. I think if I use this build I am going to have to bottom half higher to allow more room for the door knob. Thanks for the video though. It answered some questions I had about how to fill in the hollow ends.
@@Robinson-Homestead actually, I was just browsing pics of Dutch doors and I found one I really like that has a shelf that sits right in the middle so there is some sticking out both sides and it's cut narrower than the door, so the door knob is free and clear. Pretty damn good for your first build. I hope I am lucky enough to have mine come out looking half that nice. I will be building mine next week, wish me luck LOL
You seem to be pretty accurate with everything but why on earth did you put the hinge on upside down, head is facing downward and will work out. Did you pop the pin out of the hinge and turn it or leave it that way?
With all the glue. Why not just clamp it up to dry and not face nail it. The surface sheet is so thin it probably won’t hold very well anyways. Plus no nail holes to fill.
I can’t believe you would not just purchase a new solid door instead and cut that. All the labor you’re doing -woah - just to rig a cheap hollow door! Why? Me personally, I wouldn’t. I mean, this is interesting, but a solid door couldn’t cost more than $80-100
A hollow door is sturdy enough but also lightweight enough to not tear out of the frame. Plus if that's what you have it would be more cost effective. It's not like it's an entrance door to the house, just to the basement.
Thanks Bub.

Thanks Justin it wasn't hard to do and it's still working great.

Solid doors are super heavy.
Your hired! Please come and do my garage door like this.
Lol thanks Kelly, it is not hard you can do it.
It turned out really nice, Looks FANTASTIC! you guys did a Great job! Two thumbs up!!!
Thank you
Looks great! I love it when people tell me I can't do something...!!!
Me to thanks.
Looks good, nice process. I’m doing a similar project on my kitchen door soon and your video helps. Chris 🇬🇧
Thank you for watching glad to help.
Like the door Kevin, Thanks for the video.
Thanks Ron.
I need a door just like this.
Not hard to make thanks for the comment and watching.
Thanks for this! I love a good challenge and DIY
You are so welcome!
Nicely done. Will help my granddaughter and her husband add it to her new house.!!
Glad I could help.
Thank you so much for the comment and watching.

Good idea thanks for the comment
Love this I'm going to do this on my school bus build thanks for the awesome video
It is still holding up great.
You rock, this is exactly what I want to do! Fingers crossed!
Thank you and good luck.
Looks good but the top door should have been at least another inch shorter then the bottom for door knob clearance .
Thanks for watching could have used more clearnce my first one.

Thank you for the comment Xilly666.
I know Im kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to watch new series online?
if you can use an original door then it will hang correctly. and add hinges to each top and bottom.
Just needs to be painted white to match the door. 👍🏾. Great video. Thank you
I agree!!
But it wasn't for me thanks for the comment.
That is a great door! Wish you would come to my house and fix my front door now.LOL.
Thanks for the comment Tess Jones.
Great job Kevin 👍👍👍
Thank you.
FINALLY!!!! EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching hope it helps.
Same..x
Nice work Man...Thanks !
Thank you.
Good job as always!!
Thanks William.
That is a nice job, especially considering the cost.
Thank you Jeff
Told me I needed solid too...so I bought solid...best video I find is hollow
Thank you Nicole hope my video helped.
That’s cool. I always wanted one when my kids were younger.
Looks great. I guess whomever is on the other side has the only access to open the top only? Why not have a doorknob in the top too?
That's just what they asked for Thomas.
Looks very nice. IYOP would it be possible to use a table saw to cut the wood to fit in the hollow space of the door seeing as I don't have a planer?
Yes you could that would work just as well.
Nice job Kevin. I did a quick search of your videos looking for the follow up you mentioned to show how it held up over time but I didn't find it, did you do one?
It's still works great I need to make the video on that thanks for the comment.

Where are you located? Can you do a couple for me without the table or bar? Need them to keep critters out like another reader. Love it!
PA.

How about you go make it.
Hey! Just curious how this worked out in the long haul? Never saw an updated video
Working out great I will do that update video thanks A.N. Rhodes.
@@Robinson-Homestead I'm about to follow this to make my own, did you get a chance to make the update yet?
Nice job!
Thank you Max.
I'm going to try this out in a week or so.. Thinking that I may have to shorten the shelve over the knobs, they look, inconvenient to use with the shelf so close.
How did it turn out?
Nice job!

Thank you!
Holding great could be smaller thanks for the comment.
@@Robinson-Homestead how could it be smaller?
What was the point of mounting the top hinge up side down? Shouldn't the pin have been facing the other way?
What if you dont have a wood planer? Is there a standard lumber size like a 1 x 1 that might fit inside the door?
not sure about that but if no planner you can use a table saw to trim your wood to the size you need , hope this helps.
I think you should taper the wood you stuck there.
Thank you for the comment.
Great Job, Its been a year how is it holding up.
Holding up great it does gets a lot use for sure.
Muito bom, parabéns
Ever consider using pocket screws to attach the two boards prior to sliding into the door? Allowing for a top with no screws visible.
Good idea thanks.
I'm sure you had to chisel out the door frame for the new hinge. How did you get it to line up before drilling holes in frame for new hinge?
I bolted one hinge on the door frame and traced the other one then removed the door and cut for the hinge
fabulous 🙋
Thank you Lisa.
Very nice Sir!
Thank you Billy.
Thank you Billy.

It would be best to leave more room that was the first one I built.

RayneStorm how did it go?
how would you handle the opposite of this, turn a dutch door into a regular door? I've got a dutch door in the house we bought and I think it's stupid
Just screw it together Jason.
Sell it for what you want a new door costs. I'm sure you'll find someone who wants it and will pay for it.
I want a dutch door on a budget so how is it holding up?
Holding up great and it's used everyday thanks for the comment.
excelente dutch door!
Thank you
How much would something like that cost to get done?
I think round $40 not for sure.
Job well done oh buddy G-man out
Thanks G-man.
How is it holding up?
Using it everyday and it's holding up just fine thank you for your comment.

@@Robinson-Homestead 👍
What size wood you use for the shelf??
1 by 6
Thanks for the comment and watching Earl the door is still in use today and working great. That was a 1 by 6 oak wood.
What is the name of your 2 part epoxy you use?
Any 2 part epoxy will work.
Handle looks like it's in an awkward position.
It is in an awkward position could use some improvements
2:09 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for watching.

Thanks Michael.
The lock on outside?????? It looks good but the lock on outside. This must be an inside door.
Yeah it is an inside door, thanks for watching.
Update?

Hinges upside down
Thanks for the comment.

Just doing what I was asked to do.
You haven't priced solid wood doors lately I see. A pine solid core door is now almost $250!! That may be a big factor to a huge number of folks

Then you gotta cut up the all the hinges cut the door knob out also got paint the door
Pathetic and amateurish.
You should check This Old House and see the correct way to make a Dutch Door. Sad !
