    For those that aren't rich, check woth your local library on videos. My brother borrowed the machine from his and I believe they had both the ones to go from VHS to DVD and to digital. It might take more time like a flatbed scanner, but it is definitely doable without paying a service. And he didn't have to have the original video camera or anything, just the tapes.

      Yes! the local library is great - several in our area have scanners, slide converters, video and film and video converters. Thank you for sharing this!
