When I was a boy, Edinburgh Regional Transport, the bus company that ran the maroon city busses had a Morris Quad Tractor which had a crane added to the back to recover broken down bases. I can remember 10 year old me in 1981 getting hugely excited seeing it tow a No.61 down Princes Street to the bemusement of a nonplussed dad.😊
I bought this kit in 1985 and absolutely loved it. Tamiya kits were a revolution back when they first came out, compared to the crappy local.stuff, they were inspiring and easy to build
Very nice job! I picked these kits up when they first came out(and still have them) in the 1970s as a kid while visiting relatives in the the UK. I particularly liked the Quad which is quite accurate compared to one being used around a wrecking yard near me here in Canada until fairly recently.
Hi Ian Great results as per your usual standards of workmanship mate! Not too shabby for a kit that is nearly 50 years old. I remember when it came out in the mid ‘70s and I wanted to buy it and build some diorama in Libya. Thanks for sharing your work again, and stay safe ❤😊
A good artillery set, Ian. Wonderfully executed and painted. With the extra parts it looks even better. In every kind a master modeled set! Best wishes, Joachim
Looks great! Currently building the AFV club Churchill GC, and will probably build a diorama for it with your videos as a guide. Cheers from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
The star on the bonnet looks weird to me. It feels like the point should be towards the windshield, not the radiator. I could easily be wrong, I often am. It just looks odd.
Moin Ian 🤘🏻 The car is realy nice. Great Job 👍🏻 Very cool idea with the tarpaulins. I'm already looking forward to the dio. I love English vehicles. But I haven't built one myself yet. Maybe I should build one on my UA-cam channel. Greetings from Ollifrom the Bastel Bude 1/35
The quad tractor has always struck me as odd; it's a tall silhouette on the battlefield and I've never seen on with an MG mount. Yes, I know towed artillery usually isint up front but the situation can change rapidly
Thanks.....it only really works for large flat surfaces, it melts the plastic and you can bed the PE in to it but like CA glue it can get knocked off if you're not careful👍
Can you tell me does the Tamiya cement really stick the photo etch? would really like to know as I have just purchased their new kit with all items together. Regards Barry
The Tamiya cement doesn't stick the photoetch but it does melt the plastic which you can then push the photoetch in to..... It works best on larger flat surfaces but its still better to use CA glue for smaller details. Be aware though that sometimes the photoetch can come away from the plastic so I give the photoetch a rough sanding on the side facing the plastic👍
A great build and an interesting subject CWM! Just the right amount of weathering too. A question though - did you apply a clear coat before weathering, or did I miss something? Do you think a clear coat is necessary? I am a bit of a green modeller, and I notice that some swear by it, while others don’t think it is needed. Anyway, another great build, and hope to see more. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺!
Thanks......I'm a no clear coat guy under decals but that's just my personal preference as I think neither point of view is right or wrong. However saying that I do use a semi-gloss or matt coat if its desirable to achieve a finished look 👍
During research I found that on a horizontal surface (ie. the bonnet) a point faced the front of the vehicle, on a vertical surface a point faced upwards👍
Very good. I worked on this gun when I was in the army ( many moons ago now ) but not the Quad. I only have one very small question to ask...where is the cam netting ?? I notice most modellers will build a fantastic looking model but leave off a very important part. The Cursed camouflage netting and associated cam poles. Anyway bar that it is a very good looking modal sir.
Thanks......given the lack of period photos found showing camo nets mounted externally on the tractor, my guess would be that they were transported in a separate vehicle as part of a gun battery column 👍🏻
@@CWModelling I found a few photos but they were mainly for the 8th Army in the Desert but they do show them. There would be two nets. One for the gun and limber ( carried on the gun trail or on the top of the limber ) and one for the tractor. Anyway it does not matter, it's is a very find model sir.
Ian, when you are constructing buildings and roads from foam for 1/35 scale, what formula do you use for your conversion? Or have you been doing this so long you can just "eyeball it"?
I've been having a bit of trouble getting the AK 3rd gen to spray cleanly, what ratio of thinner do you use? Great build though, I want to pick up the quad tractor to go with my Dragon version of the 25 pdr.
Cheers.....its a finicky paint that took a bit of getting used to I know.....not sure of exact ratios but a bit north of 50/50 with thinner seems to be a good starting point as some colours need a bit more and some a bit less👍
@@CWModelling Thanks! Makes sense why my airbrush has been getting blocked when I try to do exactly 50/50 on every colour (which is what the bottle says...)
One thing which I do not understand. If the box itself says 'Canadian" and it is known that the units were used by the British commonwealth during WW11, why do you have it with American insignia. Thank you.
Hello CW - what a fantastic video, im about to start my build of the same kit, although its all in one box. May i ask where you get your circular cutting tool? Thanks for sharing, regards Liam
It only really for works for flat pieces but basically the TET melts the plastic and you push the PE in to the melted plastic. It also helps if you rough up the PE with sand paper. It can occasionally come loose or get knocked off but no more so than CA glue👍

Ah the nostalgia. I build the exact two kits back when I was a kid.
A MOST EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR A DIORAMA I HOPE VERY WELL BUILT AND LOTS OF STORAGE, REMEMBER THE COOKER AND CUP OF TEA 😮.
Great work! love the tarps
My favorite British truck
Very cool model build, well done! Btw the Quad Gun Tractor looks like a grampa Humvee in so many ways.
Looks very nice Ian , love the weathering on the Quad 👍🏻👌🏻
Still a very good kit for its age.
Fantastic mate👍 Definitely one of the best kits tamiya ever done
That turned out really good . 👍. Went to buy this but brought an ICM kit . May buy this later 👍
I have been thinking of building this kit , Will have to order kit and give it a go . Beautiful Craftsmanship

Nice diorama ...
Great modelling. I have looked at this kit myself tbh.. Best to keep watching you I think!!! Excellent, thanks for sharing…
Hi Ian you've done a fantastic build and paint job on a very old kit which is still brilliant love the weathering mate . Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Came out good
Fantastic Work!!!

Love this project!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Recently bought this kit. Happy to see it builds up to an awesome model! Very well executed and lots of extra details ✨👍✨
For its age I'd say its pretty damn good 👍
Was the first Tamiya I ever made. There's a real one about 300 yards from my house but with a cargo body.
A good artillery set, Ian. Wonderfully executed and painted. With the extra parts it looks even better. In every kind a master modeled set!

Excellent work👍
I trained on 25 pounders at Woolwich Royal Artillery. I even had the honour of towing one for the present Kings Investiture as the Prince of Wales.
You did not. Just stop already. You read a book & pretend it's real
@@doejon9424 how would you know?
Beautiful job! Wow!
One of my first models that I built. It's been a long time
Great work👍🏻

Great video! I'm about to start this kit, and it's been helpful. Also vey interesting what you did with the masking -- I might try that! 👍👍
Glad it was helpful 👍
Nice kits and great builds.Keep up the good work
This was my first armor kit (just the Quad). Still a great looking kit. Those were the days (damn, I sound old 😊).
The star on the bonnet looks weird to me. It feels like the point should be towards the windshield, not the radiator. I could easily be wrong, I often am. It just looks odd.
It's probably because the bonnet slopes steeply. On, say, a Jeep it would look normal.
Great work as always. Should be an interesting diorama
Ace mate 😉👌
Great Job as always Ian 👌👌👌
Great work 👍

Nice👍👍
Me and the cats think your fab 🥰
I always remember this kit but I always passed it up because it looked goofy
Have to say you've done a great job. The cover on the roof and the tarps, can I ask what colour you used please.
Thanks.....the roof cover was painted using Vallejo Model Color Khaki which was both lightened and darkened to give shadows and highlights👍
The quad tractor has always struck me as odd; it's a tall silhouette on the battlefield and I've never seen on with an MG mount. Yes, I know towed artillery usually isint up front but the situation can change rapidly
Awesome job! I didn't know that you could use regular tamiya cement to attach the PE? I always used thin-medium CA glue.

Outstanding, just watched your hobby room tour, outstanding. Question, where do you put all the things you have built ?
Thanks.....I have some display shelves in another part of the house 👍🏻
That is one reason I keep putting this hobby on hold, what do I do with it after I build it.@@CWModelling

From me for this exelent vehicle😊
Ian, when you are constructing buildings and roads from foam for 1/35 scale, what formula do you use for your conversion? Or have you been doing this so long you can just "eyeball it"?
Its mostly eyeball based on a figure or vehicle for some sense of scale and proportion 👍🏻
I've been having a bit of trouble getting the AK 3rd gen to spray cleanly, what ratio of thinner do you use? Great build though, I want to pick up the quad tractor to go with my Dragon version of the 25 pdr.

The stars are Allied Forces air recognition insignia used on all allied vehicles towards the end of the war and are not to do with the US Army 👍🏻
Very similar to the invasion stripes on the planes it helped to avoid any confusion from the air, by keeping the US star insignia
Hello CW - what a fantastic video, im about to start my build of the same kit, although its all in one box. May i ask where you get your circular cutting tool? Thanks for sharing, regards Liam
Hi and thanks.......I bought the circle cutter at a local craft shop but I'm sure you can get them on places like Ebay.....or your local craft shop👍
@@CWModelling thanks for getting back to me - I’ll check that out
Might be a dumb question, but that tool you use to cut the circles, like a compass, what's the brand/name?
Its a circle cutter, not sure of the brand name but if you're in the UK, Hobbycraft sell them or try Ebay from elsewhere👍
Sorry to be a pain but did you apply a varnish before you used the enamel dry ground. Thank you.
No worries....no varnish as the AK dry ground is acrylic not enamel👍
The storage rake on the roof did you scratch build that?
👍🏻
How on earth are you able to glue PE with Tamiya quick cement !
