Hey Trev, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I just wanted to say how helpful they are to fellow indie artists and artists juggling 9-to-5 jobs. This video made me feel much less alone. I have pretty much an identical schedule to yours, except I get my hour of music in the morning instead of in the evening. I found this so inspiring. Keep playing, and keep up the awesome work 💙
That means the world to hear! It's definitely a challenge, but when we shift the perspective that we are grateful to get the opportunity to create at all, it makes any opportunity 100% worth it. And for what it's worth I checked out your work, it's fantastic! Keep it up!
@@TrevBarnes totally agree! And thank you so much ☺ I'm recording new material now (my first productions!) and your videos have helped me tremendously. Even your simple tip to record to a drum/percussion track instead of a digital metronome made me realize I COULD record session guitar, when previously I thought I was not skilled enough as a self-taught musician. Thank you for what you do! Keep playing 💙
Great video man! Definitely resonates. Our work/life/music schedules seem pretty similar trying to juggle creating with a full time job and family. (Though you seem way more disciplined than me! 😬) Some good advice noted 👍🏻
I’m very glad I was able to provide some value. It’s all about that little bit of time we get so we can leverage our way into a path we love. Thank you so much
even in university i struggle to find time. my problem is that making music is nothing i can just start and be productive - sometimes i try for hours and get nothing done, sometimes i achieve a lot in 15minutes. It heavily depends on inspiration/mood/vibe which i can't create just like that
Maybe try focusing on a little bit at a time. Instead of diving into a full production, maybe spend a session learning how to shape a kick, mix a vocal, learn a concept, etc. I also have listening days, where I don’t work on any projects and just listen to new music to hear what is actually being done. Taking on too much can 100% feel overwhelming, and can kill the joy of creativity. Don’t ever stress, it’s always just one piece at a time
Love this! Love the gardener metaphor. I find that setting an intention and starting a timer when I am working on music is really helpful. I'll say "I'm going to work on writing a better bass/keyboard/guitar/etc part for this song for the next hour" and set a timer that is visible on my desk and it's amazing how much I can get done in an hour with that kind of intention. Question for you-what font did you use for "a little bit every day" at 1:08?
That’s a great way to work! When we are cognitive of our time, every minute becomes purposeful, it’s incredible. The font I’ve been using on this channel is the IvyPresto family!
