You said you were unsure why you suddenly started getting a lot more views. I can explain that easily. Sultans of Swing. That cover really got you noticed, and it remains one of Leo's best covers and a great video too. That single video was the reason I and many follow you both. Keep up the great work. You deserve the recognition.
That´s absolutly correct ! Mary might have been known before but that was the video when I got aware of her . I have to admit that Leo´s Version of " Sultans of Swing " only came out as it is now because of Mary´s voice and attitude . She gave the song or the rough version the original soul back again . Don´t get me wrong , Loe is an incredible Musician and to me he appears funnily weird but Mary´s voice and attitude made the song perfect . The combination of the rough sound and her harmonic Voice gave the song the I-point on that already perfect song . If anyone would take only one Part away this would be useless . For example you would off Leo´s voice it would be hard to listen . Also it would be if you would take away Mary´s voice . This song was a perfect example that it is possible to bring back an old famous song in a different way and it gets skyrocket in the charts . But you ´ll need openminded creators and people who are a contrast to each other . That´s what you find on that song . Leo´s rough sound and Mary´s harmonic voice and attitude . @Mary Spender : Did you learn anything of Leo about the Music industry and what was that ?
Absolutely. I hadn't heard of either of them until I got recommended that video. Now I have subscribed to both. That video had such incredible chemistry. I saw someone's reaction video to it get recommended just yesterday. And it's the vid I use to recommend either of them.

UA-cam was such a wonderful platform. Then Google bought them. Absolutely RUINED the platform. Thanks for sharing your information and your musical talent.
@Optic Axis True, but it’s also what most founders of very successful businesses do - build the business, sell it to the highest bidder when it reaches peak investment potential. Great content as always, Mary. How/when do you set aside time to review and respond to comments while still being able to make music and videos? It seems liked it'd take up a lot of time and could distract from creating, but it's clearly a necessary aspect of being a UA-camr. Perhaps you could do a video on this so we can see how you factor it into your day/week?
Justin I can answer that question: If Mary wants to make a livable wage she HAS to do something other than make music. The major labels EACH of them (there are three) are making $2.56 million dollars an HOUR. So the money that should be going to people like Mary Spender who are doing the valuable work is actually not going to people like her. The money is going to giant corporations who do basically nothing. So she HAS to do something other than make music or she'll starve.
You have impressively excellent vocal sound and video quality on your videos. Makes watching them so much more pleasant than many other videos out there.
Heading into my 4th year as a content creator on YT. Its audience reach remains unequaled but its monetary opportunities for smaller channels is horrible. I have sufficient subs to monetize but my avg. view time is too low even though I have a very specific demographic they could be reaching? UA-cam needs to offer an easy to use "Tipping" feature for any channel that wants it. Let viewers decide when to tip a channel regardless of view times or sub counts. I enjoy your channel Mary - Cheers!
By tipping do you mean actual money or some form of YT monetary credits users can buy? I know there are money tip options in live streams on YT, but why not just use patreon or even Venmo/PayPal for tips?
@@pro-v7500 I have a link to the channel's PayPal account and viewers do send tips over now and again. I'm just envisioning a "one stop" payment system to make it easier for viewers to tip and not have to visit a different website. Thanks.
@@santopino2546 as a smaller channel YT uses me to suggest videos to my viewers of other channels with ads so they can make their $. That's fine but why not create a quick way for my subs and viewers to tip when the thought hits them? YT could make a small fee off the tip and create more $ for themselves as well from my non-monetized channel. Win-Win. Thanks.
I’m seeing loads of this UA-cam striking b.s happening all over. I think the community needs to gather up and take UA-cam on. It seems like everyone has mutual frustrations on the matter.
your voice is always mesmerizing! sometimes i don't care much about the content but can't quit the video, and end up just listening to your voice till the end :)

I think youtube wants you to watch the ads.
Win-Win. Thanks.
I could listen to you all day. Supremely articulate explanation that is an essential lexicon for musicians.
I’m seeing loads of this UA-cam striking b.s happening all over. I think the community needs to gather up and take UA-cam on. It seems like everyone has mutual frustrations on the matter.
Great points and goof heart. Thank you.
Mary, as always, takes us all to church, drops bombs of wisdom, with her elequence...
Eloquence.
Great info, Mary! Thanks for taking the time pass on your experience.
This is the kind of video you show to folks who are like, "Being a UA-camr isn't a full time job."
Thanks for Openly Sharing Knowledge
your voice is always mesmerizing! sometimes i don't care much about the content but can't quit the video, and end up just listening to your voice till the end :)
The "Mille" in CPM and RPM is Latin (and also French) for one thousand, not one million. A million views is one thousand Mille so you should earn the RPM * 1000.
I caught that too and had to check and mille actually comes from Latin at least according to Wikipedia.
Well duhh!
@@DMSProduktions She says "cost per thousand" in the video, which throws off her maths somewhat.
This here is Murica.

Solid take on the business, thank you. Great voice too!
You may have just taught a career musician a few new things. Never too proud to learn! Thanks Mary :)
Good for you mate. When you stop learning; you cease to grow.
Awesome - thanks so much. Keep going.
