    Very nice video. One of the best of the dozens I've looked at. I'll never find an old-school dish like that but seeing the mount's design is enough to scratch build one. Thank you!

    Hello Great video's I too am asking for the measurements of the steel tracker structure you scraped from the sat dish, I don't seem to be able to come up with one. As an old retired guy I've got time to do a little welding and this is one project I really want to do. :)

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Рік тому

      Hi Paul, The top is 3 feet by 3 feet and it is 2 inch square tubing. This would make a great welding project. Thanks for watching. If you have anymore questions let me know.

    Do you think you could post measurements of the steel tracker structure you scraped from the sat dish, so i can weld one up from old cut up jet ski trailer c-channel. 2ndly do you think a treated 6x6 x 10 would be enough strenth for base.

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  2 роки тому

      Yes I will take measurements today. It is really hard to tell if a 6x6 would be strong enough, I would have to do the math. To many variables ( how many panels, their weight,max wind speed in your area, etc..) . I will post the measurements ASAP. Thanks for watching.

      @@HippieHillHomestead what model of actuator did you use or what output is needed? the movable frame is made of what thick profiles? how strong are the winds there is no problem with such a frame? I really like this tracker :)

    Great information but please invest in a good directional audio recorder. Sometimes your voice is barely audible, but the roosters are pretty loud!

    I really enjoy your videos on the tracker but I have a question. Can you safely install more than 3 panels per mount? Also what lengths of unistrut are you using? Thanks

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  Рік тому

      I am using 10 foot lengths of unistrut. You could put more panels on it if your wind load is lower than mine. We are at one of the highest points in out county at 2100 ft. We have bluffs on 3 sides and to the North you can see for miles. So we get some hard wind. If you don't live in a high wind area you could get away with more panels.

    • @sampop5875
      @sampop5875 Рік тому

      Can you also tell me what size and watt panels you are using? I would like to try some of the high watt 72 inch panels. From your experience do you think these would work? I have thought of welding another bracket on each side of the existing tube bracket to hold them. Might just have to use only (2) panels at this setup. We are building a new house and I want to be self sufficient (grid tied as well) with battery back up. My goal now is to use the SolArk stackable systems where I can add on when needed. I have 32 acres of wide open land in Dothan Al. And we do get some wind loads from hurricanes as well since we live so close to the gulf. Thanks for any help.

    How much weight can you place on the tracker and the accuator?

    • @HippieHillHomestead
      @HippieHillHomestead  4 місяці тому

      It depends on the manufacture of each. The limiting factor on weight is the linear actuator. Most the actuators I have are 1200 lbs actuators not including the wind load.
