In this episode of "we speak time," our guest is my watch buddy Jade from Madison, Wisconsin; he is a watch fanatic and has been in the jewelry industry for 30-plus years. Jade and I became friends after he found my Instagram page; we exchanged a few messages and found that we share the same interest in vintage Omega watches. Jade has recently considered diversifying his watch collection by collecting other brands, and I am here to help him locate his first non-Omega quality vintage piece.

This is great! Getting a chance to see other people's collections that you normally wouldn't is a great idea. That also makes me realize I need to start posting more of my collection to instagram! Also, I know I'm mentioning this again, but I can't believe he also has the same omega deville that you and I have. It's like the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, never saw it before but I keep seeing it hah!

I don’t have one on me. But it is the same watch. It comes in 14k gold, gold bezel on steel, and gold filled.

Great video! And good luck to Jade selecting the right watch to grow his collection. My suggestions for brands which are good quality (maybe not quite as high as Omega, but close) and offer good value and a range of styles are:
    1. The obvious one: vintage Longines. Plentiful, great quality and imo undervalued because modern Longines is below Omega in the Swatch Group brand hierarchy.
    2. Eterna. Bombproof movements which were highly innovative for their time. Now undervalued because of snobbery about their excellent ETA successors.
    3. Moeris. A bit of a niche one, but a company with an interesting history of innovation and quality movements. They were involved in first commercialising Invar balances working with the inventor C. E. Guillaume.
    4. Hamilton/Buren watches with micro rotor movements. Thin, stylish, innovative and great quality, provided the movement is in good condition and running well as parts are often tricky to find.
    5. 70s Seiko Quartz (e.g. QZ, QT, QR series). Beautiful finishing - they were priced higher than mechanical Grand Seiko when released, but now very inexpensive. If the movement fails they're likely to be hard to fix, but I've found them reliable and been willing to take the risk when you can pick them up for less than $100.
    6. For crazy colours Tressa and Nivada Grenchen are worth a look though you need to know your stuff as there are loads of Frankens. That applies to colourful vintage watches in general as tastes were mostly quite sober in the past.
    7. A pocket watch. Spectacular quality and value compared to wristwatches imo, but you need to be sure that the movement is running really well as parts often tricky. I like them as desk clocks.

What is the reference number on that blue 1971 deville? Very unique/funky design

There are three case references that come with this dial:
      14k gold case version = ref. KM6610
14k gold bezel with steel back version = ref. KM6068
      14k gold filled version = ref. KL6292
