YES, You Should DO IT - E90 BMW 330i 6 Speed Manual with 3.64 Differential Swap from Automatic 330i

- I give a quick overview explaining if its worth it to swap in the 3.64 differential into your 2006 e90 BMW 330i. This is applicable to 328i owners too except as mentioned in the video consider swapping in a 3.91 ratio differential from the automatic AWD 328xi paired with an n54 intake manifold.
Also some driving shots for a quick reference of how its like driving with a 3.64. - Авто та транспорт
Right on👌🏼 good to hear it can be done with jack stands even though it’s a bit of an exercise. Just gotta get the diff now and do it
Exercise for sure, another idea is to use a jack with a high enough lift point to elevate the diff into place. Wish I had more photos of when I did the job but yup very doable on the ground!
@@AK1313 great idea but what about the fuel consumption, and whats the rpm in 6th doing 100km/hr?
Why the n54 manifold and not the three stage manifold upgrade on a 328i 6sp m
i have a question regarding the gearbox
What is rpm in 6th at 100kph?
I’m from Vancouver 2!!! For that u no I substribe
328xi 6mt here, going to be keeping an eye out for 328xi auto 3.91 diffs front and rear. Believe it's just bolt on
Yup, correct
Update: 3.91 are great! Very tight for 1st gear but even at 3k on the highway car is still 8-9l per 100km with headers and tune
Im going to do this mod to my 330i n52 6mt. Is not compatible de 330xi auto diff? only RWD?
Should be compatible with an xi as well
From your photo, the swap you did, you have a 3 armed input flange (looks like a fidget spinner) from the "xi donor diff" and the oem input flange on the 328i is circular. I am in the same boat, I have both diffs out and on the ground. My question is, did you just swap the flanges? Any help or tips on doing this is appreciated.
Hey guy, I'd strongly recommend checking realoem to see if the flange sizes are the same or different. My assumption is that they'd be identical but best to check
@@AK1313 yes I've checked and they are the same, just different connection plate. More curious if the swap is pretty straightforward.
@keegannagy3487 ah gotcha, yes it's a matter of removing the old and slapping in the new. Just may need some additional support holding up the differential. I had to get creative with my jack to get the damn thing high enough into the air since I did it on the garage floor on jackstands
What do you think about 3.91 diff in e90 330i MT? Too much? Also what is rpm at 100km/h at 6th gear?
That's going to be way too much, first gear will be completely useless
Hi Alex, I'm considering doing the diff change
Can you tell us a little bit more about the consumption (l/100km), has it changed in any way?
And in terms of rpm, how much higher would the rpm sit at for example (3rd gear, 60 kph; 4th gear 100 kph and so on)
The ratio itself is about 20% difference 3,15:2,64 in terms of final drive
I think my fuel consumption improved as the ratio resulted in less effort needed for me to get up to speed. I think I averaged at around 10.5l/100km? RPMs and speed, hard to say as I've sold the car almost 2 years ago. That aside all my friends who still have their 330i's and did this change in their 6 MT cars have only questioned why haven't they done this sooner.
@@AK1313 thanks for the info
I'm averaging 12l in town which is not great, if it improves my mpg might consider it since I dont see a lot of highways..
What axles do you run with the 3.64? Auto 330i or manual 330i?
Axles did not get swapped. Manual and auto axles are identical..
Are you confusing 3 stage intake for n54 intake or is that really a thing?
No confusion here, it is a thing. 3 stage manifold gives more torque throughout the range but n54 manifold shines at the peak, hence to remedy the lack in torque on bottom of the rpm range you compensate with the differential swap (assuming your car is a manual rwd).
Did Canada get the 2.5L 328s?
@@Lurkatron the 328i was a 3L as well. The only 2.5L was the 323i
