Did yours end up being the tensioner or rod knock? Mine does the same thing, started making this sound and idling low. It occurs at about half frequency of rpm which leads me to believe it is timing belt or valvetrain noise.
My tensioner knock goes away when i was driving it but when i take off it knocks just ike this ima have to get an aisin tensioner put on instead of the shit gates one
i think my wrx is doing this. at idle it sounds like this or a pulley and above 2500 rpms it seems to go away. is this what yours did aswell??? please reply
The Aisin kit has a similar one, I went to dealer for tensioner, OEM lasts for a long time, aftermarket parts nowadays leave a lot to be desired. Spend the extra money, do it right and not worry about it for another 100,000 miles.

Mine sounds just like this too at all speed & rpm. It also idles very low with knocking sound, comes & goes

Same thing happened to my 2.5i, except the bracket the tensioner mounted to also came loose and was making it sound like a rod was about to eject

Geo prizm did that and the engine specialist said "new engine" but it was the belt

My bugeye does this too, it gradually goes away after a minute
