  • Some unedited quick clips I found that I video-taped in 1987. Different downtown, and the pre-tornado High School. Love this little old town!

Cool that things like the Clock Tower Restaurant and Steiner's dress shop (where I got my prom dress in 1986), as well as True Value Hardware, the old drugstore and dime store (which I think they were calling a variety store by then) were still here. My grandmother worked at a restaurant on the Clock Tower side, can't remember the name of it - maybe Jack's? There also used to be an old small grocery store on that side when I was little, and The Enterprise newspaper sold comic books across the street. Every Sunday after church we'd go in to eat and then stop at Fitzer Frostie's Ice Cream which was just on the outskirts. I loved old downtown Plainfield & it's still a beautiful town.

I made this video in 1987. Cable TV was coming soon along with a public access channel that I helped get off of the ground. I remember it was a very hot day, I had no idea that within a few years so much would change.

August 28,1990 the day Plainfield changed forever! You see Plainfield high school how it looked before that fateful day of complete destruction Plainfield was changed forever from a small town to huge growth and rebuilding since 1/3 of the town was decimated by a huge tornado

Clayton Gillaspy Plus it hit the day before I started my Jr year in high school. That was an unbelievable/unimaginable day. You’ve never witness that kind of death and destruction. if you ever ask a bunch of people in school or who were effected by the Plainfield Tornado you’ll see a similar reaction, head bows then a deep breath and eyes that are weld up with tears and someone says I can remember that day like it was yesterday. I still I’m disturbed by how if it was only 16 hours later hundreds possibly thousands of kids could’ve been killed. One of those days etched into our towns memories

I didn't know cattle were residents of this town. Cattle are animals and they don't have the intelligence to know how dangerous tornadoes are, let alone know where to go when thunder rumbles.

High school was a difficult time for me I was a foot shorter than the girls 40 lb overweight with crooked yellow teeth and a bad case of gas the ugliest girl in school would not give me the time of day so predictably I played with myself a lot and over time went blind
