I’ve had my Ranger 13 years from brand new and it’s been the best truck I’ve ever had and it’s always scary upgrading but you have put my mind at ease, think I’ll just stay with the dual cab XLT and hope it lasts just as long!!
I tow for a living, and have a late 21and the 4 cylinder will cope with anything you throw at it, and it does a good impression of being a bigger engine, the 10 speed gearbox, combined with decent sound deadening and active road noise cancellation through the stereo, and simulated engine noise, you don't notice when it's got the revs up and changing gear all the time to maintain the seemingly smooth steady speed you're travelling at.
Love it, we own a 19 and a 21. Being previous generation owners I can say first hand the improvements over the old generation are huge. The 2.3 is some much more powerful than the old 4.0, the 10 speed transmission is a huge upgrade. The standard 3.73 rear end is a great match. Cruising just highway 25 mpg is achievable.
Great review Matt. I'm a 200 series owner (the best car I've ever owned) but boy, am I seriously tempted by the Ford Ranger v6. More research for me on this one.
Love your work mate. Nice to see a good honest take without the BS. I have a 19 2.0, and have an order for a V6. I drove it last week. Yeah its a nice engine, but im not sure its the game changer people make it out to be. I tow a 2.5 tonne boat over a mountain range a few times a year and its fine for that. Interesting in your thoughts on the V6 vs 2.0
I agree, if you're not towing the 2.0 is fine and not that noticeable difference. Experience shows however resale will vary markedly for the two engines, assuming it is reliable
Great review - way better than the other so far (which is simply based off the marketing brochure) - I mean, chalk and cheese of the typical outlets. Well done mate.
great review. really inching me forward to get one reserved. but the thing about fords here in the PH is their spotty record on build quality. esp engine and transmission bits. i owned the redesigned ranger(px1) back in 2012, sold it after 2 years, it had so many problems. transmission, electronics gah!
I honestly love these No bullshit No wank reviews 👍🏻 I’ve taken both for a test drive and your spot on the v6 feels better not having to work as hard. Did you get to test the headlights or the stereo system?

Would definitely get this or the D-Max any day over the low-tech Toyota 😂 oh Hilux will step up no doubt, but maybe in 5 years time while they do extensive R&D on how the hell they are going to deliver it, then when it finally arrives, they will charge you $20k over the competitors, take all your orders and put your build on indefinite hold 😂😂😂😂
@@farzana6676 That's because they like to be marketed and now they just got slapped with billion dollars lawsuit in Aus for their dirty diesel engines supposed reliability. The only reason they have a perception of reliability is because they continued to use low-tech multi-generation recycled parts all over their cars while charging more and more over the years (when economies of scale tells you it should go down because it's the same damn thing, so yeah that says a lot about how much they are profiting from onselling old parts to their buyers). As soon as they try to introduce something remotely new tech they are hit with reliability issues just like every other manufacturers.
You're very silent about the problem with electric park brake servo's. My Next Gen Ranger Sport (9000km) is parked up at a dealer waiting for replacement park brake servos. One of the factory servos leaked brake fluid which flooded the servo motors and controls. No external leak. All captured in component. Brake fluid is corrosive. The dealer banned the car from being driven until the new redesigned servo/calliper units are installed as it is a KILL YOU risk if the control electronics decide to apply that brake hard on while driving. It's the 3rd Next Gen Ranger this dealer has seen with this. Sounds like a major recall issue but Ford remaining deathly silent on this. Is that the stuff of a "listening company"??
Just found this review. Plan to get the XLT with the 2.7 turbo V6 (US engine choice). Could you do me a favor and come to America to do our car reviews? You absolutely cracked me up and was still very informative! 😆
A few months ago i was quite rude to you. Bad day, I don't know. Anyway, you won't remember it but I actually have. Because I was wrong to do it and I knew it. Not my usual style I would just like to apologise. I'm honestly sorry. Cheers.
Hi does the v6 ranger that you tried have the optional extras? And do you know if there's a brochure available for the extras that I could see ? Thanks!
I’m gonna wait at least 3 years because I want to see how the v6 ages. I love this car though and want one more than anything but don’t really trust it instantly.
Currently have 21.75 XLT. Do you have a video on a comparison between neq Wildtrak and for instance, XLT/XLS? All videos seem to feature the new Wildtrak, but nothing I've seen to compare the model range. You touched on a couple points, such as the dash storage/cup holders etc, but is there a lengthy video on the differences through our, inside and outside?
Just subscribed. Great review, fun, easy to watch and nfoolow, loved the format of the good/bad points. Without all the sellers spiel. I liked it. Subscribed and want to see more reviews of the next gen Ranger range, especially the new Raptor. I liked the information supplied, such as the badges etc. Alot things not seen on other reviews. Well done.
Hello, have Ford fixed the issues of bed liners peeling, transmission overheating, V6 tail shaft vibrations, apparent computer issues, I’m asking on the basis of possibly buying. I’m interested in the Raptor but not for over $100 grand on road. I’m looking at the wild track . I just don’t want to buy a vehicle that realistically is around $80 grand and I have to keep going back to the dealership for issues, because I’ve heard Ford dealers and their after sales service is shocking.
In the UK, the 5 pot can't get into most city's due to emissions. I'd heard the V6 is petrol to overcome this? Also I hope Ford have overcome the AC issue within the dash.
Such a shame, the D max had a short run of superiority to find itself blown out of the water. My mate ordered v6 and on 11 month waiting list. I asked if worth the wait. Replied ‘definitely’ as would regret going with something else. Though his base model 10k more than Dmax, he intends to keep for 7 to 8 years.
Great vehicle and great review. The only trouble is, you can’t get one. Well at least not in a reasonable timeframe that a new car buyer would find acceptable. If I placed an order today it would have a minimum 8 month wait (that’s what Ford corporate advises as minimum), which means that would turn into 12 or more..
I think that japanese car brands are a little bit conservative in their approach so they make cars to be at competition with each other, but not completely blow them out of the water. Whereas ford does intent on completely obliterating the competition although Isuzu did take a huge leap forward comparing it to it predecessor. Nissan and Toyota are doing alright, Mazda needs more love, but Mitsubishi has to do something big, it's being left behind.
I see by the positioning of your thumbs, that you are new to off-road testing. Why no 0 to 100kph in manual mode? What is the turning circle like? Fuel tank size? Put it on a hoist so we can see the vulnerable points underneath? Can you option down to 17's for decent off-road rubber, or are we stuck with less capable 18's?
I have a wildtrak 2.0 bi turbo 2021 and it flogs the hilux so if you think the others are as good as the 2.0 you need to drive back to back, perhaps you are being spoilt with how it looks after the driver. Its hardly giving it away for free, have you seen the prices for these! Obviously some features need to be kept for higher end models, but im talking about a cup holder and actual empty space for storage! Utes/cars are all so focused on tech these days so we miss on on basics..
@@Aaron.13 I'm confused mate.. lower models still have cupholders in the centre console. It's not like they arnt giving you cup holders. They just have a different design for the higher tiered models.. what exactly is wrong with that in your eyes. They are just differentiating the models they offer. I still fail to see how or why this annoys you sorry.
It should hang with a Cherokee Trailhawk ;-)
I like rotary dial,,, or push button
