it is astonishing how well almost 2 years old mate 40 camera is holding still up against new top camera phone... on contrast i do not think iphone 11/12 pro and Samsung s10 5G/s20 ultra would hold up this well.... i have p40 pro which i got(boxed pack) at same price as iphone 11 Pro/max rough 2nd hand even tho its worse in every aspect except OS, p40 pro was competitor for 11 pro and s10 but its just alot better...i still wonder how well p50 pro would have been if it used magic 4 Ultimate's sensor... :")

Lucky for me, that i've watched this video.. Wanted to buy Magic 4 pro.. And that, according this situation against Ultimate version of Honor, would be mistake..im not gona give my Mate 40 pro... Still rocks 😁😁😁

@@gmailuser699 too late, alreadu bought Magic 4 pro.. And its awesome.. Honestly, i was happy with Mate 40pro, but after a while, GSpace started to be tough to deal with.. Now Honor has G apps..and its great phone
Please do us all a favour and take of the camera protection class! I had one for half a day on my P40 Pro and the camera got very confused by it so it took worse pictures and video with it on. And I can clearly can see that in your videos when it comes to your mate 40 Pro.

@@lltechview there definitely is. I can clearly see the edge around the microphone and the flashlight wich isn't coming like that from factory.
@@RamonAngelow I never put anything extra on it. It is straight from the box. So nope I cannot take off anything from there.

in the end of the day I would choose Mate 40 pro (I owe it now) out of these 2 smartphones. Cine ultrawide lens of Mate 40 pro is awesome for making video of people (very natural looking, realistic colors and no processing/sharpening).
P.S. I think Mate 40 pro/pro plus is STIIL the best smartphone (overall) ever made by Huawei/Honor...

Hi, thanks for a video. M40P still going strong - I do not understand that competition has such a hard time to beat it. What surprises me probably most, how they are unable to get really good single processing from sensor. And it is not not only Honor - other brands Realme etc. just struggle to get anything reasonable shooting full res from the sensor (HiRes). And binning it to 12MPix or so just has its limits. P/M 40 are spectacular with its AI HiRes mode - which is simply single shot specially processed with subpixel extraction from sensor. And shooting just HiRes (no AI) automatically downsampled with GPhotos to 16 MPix are just excellent (not at full res though). It cannot be clearly seen from this video - probably it is a matter of codec used for blogging. Otherwise it is clear that new tele lenses/sensors has advantages because of HW development. M/P 40 still hold its own in 5x tele region (optical). However in 3,5x range P50 and Honor (Samsung U22) are better. Now it is a question whether it is more practical to have 5x or 3,5x lens. Many shooters are asking for 10x 20x even more reach, but those FL are usable just for still scenes, otherwise it is quite a disaster to get quick (action) snapshot. For my type of shooting I will probably choose 3,5x as it is near perfect portrait FL, but more than tele I definitely prefer excellent 20MPix UWA (18mm FF EQ) for casual shooting. But that is me. Many people feel ashamed to go close to get those surprisingly dynamic shots, rather wanting to stay far way and shoot from distance (paparazzi shooting). Well with those FL reach is there - but dynamics of the scene is definitely lost - perspective isolation etc.
One comment more - the colors (tones) from Honor - esp. in video are just not good (I´d rather avoid the word horrible) this is just too much + that contrast. Look good on small screen, though.
I do wonder what the future brings, competition is getting closer but still not there.
The haziness on the mate 40 pro zoom pictures is due to the periscope effect... I have the same issue with my p30 pro

M40P still kicking rear ends. That AI High Res mode gives it output that is much better than any 50-108 mp sensors I've tested against it over the past year.
This was a great buy.
I miss my mate 40 Pro now im stuck with P50 Pro 😥😥😥😥😥😥 The battery drains fast and when zooming to the moon its a nightmare regardless i love huawei

mate 40 pro in terms of video capabilities and photos from ultrawide, 5x are better than magic 4 ultimate.
Magic 4 ultimate main cam is good.

Battery test is still going on. As for the review. I hope to cut and edit it today. Release is earliest tomorrow though

Good review. In my opinion Magic has the capability to be great and still needs some updates. Mate 40 pro still better in several things.
I have p50 pro and confuse to upgrade to magic 4 pro .. is it worth the upgrade or my p50 is good enough for now ?

Just want to point out that after checking many reviews of the Honor Magic 4 Pro, it's clear that it has horrendous battery life. Every reviewer has said either it's mediocre or below average. I don't think have no GMS will make that much of a difference. Bearing this in mind, there's no point in choosing the Ultimate version either because even the ultimate version has horrendous battery life. P50 is the best choice for camera & battery life.
Obviously it's not Honors fault about the battery life, the snapdragon 8 Gen is a piece of rubbish, but the Kirin 9000 is much more energy efficient.
If you could clear this up once & for all by doing a battery test between the P50 Pro & the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate that'd be good, but, judging by all other reviews, the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate just isn't good for battery life & nowhere near as good as the P50 Pro
My tests so far show 1-2h better battery life on the Magic 4 Ultimate in conparison with my Kirin powered P50 Pro

It should be at least two. But as it is a chinese model I am not sure. Never saw Honkr giving any estimate on how long they will support it
I have a mate 40 pro, unfortunately all low light photos and especially videos are very disappointing. Although I like its daytime functions and also excellent 5x zoom job for any kind of photography.
Yeah low light for video you need to do manual adjustments. The automatic video mode is weak in dark conditions
I have mate 40 pro its the best phone.
I wonder why the video looks so bad in face, when there is hole time going on somthing with the pixels with Ultimate. Confusin when so expencive phone does that. I would have hoped for comparson between magic 4 ultimate and magic 4 pro.

Most smartphones require you to adjust the shutter speed to get the best focus also lowering the iso
So to be more clear it is all about software and with the honor new high quality lens the photo pro mode is far superior to huawei it's bc most people are lazy and choose the auto mode.
@@alexthehammer9282 Yeah but the movie mode pro video pro mode only as it is softer and not so contrasty. The default video mode has too much contrast and punchy colors and oversharpening.
@@lltechview This is what meant for photos for the video it is not my speciality.
For photos i always loved a lens with a 1.6 to 1.8 aperture on a smartphone .The reason is like i said above with a faster aperture and faster shutter speed the focus of the picture removes the background blurry.
The telephoto seems to be better for night photo if you can use it at night.
Most compamies stopped using samsung sensor due to lack of customization which is why i prefer sony sensor for photography just as much on smartphone and camera.
Sorry if i did not explain correctly my pov, honor have the best photos if you know how to trick the conditions outside.
I prefered the monochrome sensor to the samsung sensor they added on magic 4 ultimate.
@@lltechview Not saying that you are wrong i just mean to share my way to use the pro mode, i prefered honor magic 3 pro plus as it's nearly the exact same performances, i don't love samsung lenses due to their lack of quality details.

Nice comparison but, in the future it would be more helpful if you took videos of something other than your face. I don't know when you're using the selfie cameras or the rear cameras.
