It took me so long to realize that Jemma left because she knew he wasn't going to recover to his full potential if she was there. She knew he needed to learn to do things on his own without her there to be a crutch...Jemma Simmons is precious!
She was wrong. They've always been referred to as FitZ-Simmons, because they think as one, they finish each other's sentences, they are the two people can understand each other. When she left, it broke Fitz, he became worse and worse as Phil said, a part of him left as well that's why he was hallucinating Jemma, his brain was looking for that connection. She left because of what he told her at the bottom of the ocean. She didn't know how she left about him, it was all so sudden and since he got brain damage saving her, she felt guilty. And he left ashamed that he's not the same man Jemma knew afterwards. But when Gonzales came in and tried to take the toolbox, and Fitz-Simmons made the plan to steal it out, that's when I knew they were good again together. They are psychologically linked again. They made that plan without even talking directly about it. That's how tight they are.
One important and also really sweet and healthy actually I've not realized before is that they made the plan while having the argument... all this season they have been unable to work through their problems, devolving into arguments themselves. Then they are able to make a plan while arguing.... It speaks really well for the relationship they are in now as they are able to argue now, they know how. That's likely one of the greatest reasons besides just straight up love that Fitz is able to work with Jemma on 'getting will back'
She thought her presence made him uncomfortable/ashamed about his brain damage and she's probably resentful because she didn't want to go through with his whole "plan", now she feels guilty when she's around him. But they acted almost normal in the very last episode, apparently Fitz is getting much better. Also they need to have "the talk" and they are both avoiding it :)
He deserved a response. She ran away because it was too hard to give him one. As much as they are cute together she really did play with his head far too much. He deserved better.
WTF Mack?!? That was totally uncalled for. She was thanking him for helping Fitz, whether he did or not, just being there for him while she couldn't. and he's just "The only thing that makes him worse is you." WTF! The way he said it too, standing to his full hight to look down on her, stating it as a fact of utter blame. Total passive aggressive intimidation. and she just... ugh! breaks my heart. YOU KNOW NOTHING MACK! He needs to stop acting like a know-it-all angry teenager who just stirs shit up in the team. He is a grown ass man and needs to act like it.
He did It to save her now he's not the same and she left him when he needed her most.He loved her he helped her a lot and when he needed her help she left.Simmons should have stayed with her bestfriend but no.He can't see her the same way he used to because of what happend and how she handled it.Fitz can't help the way he is when she's around because that how he's protecting himself from getting hurt again.

I mean, it's not a really great way to show your appreciation for someone who nearly gave their life to save yours, is it? She might be a bright spark but she certainly is lacking in emotional intelligence
